HIA partners with Tarsheed to celebrate Earth Day
«حمد الدولي» يحتفي بيوم الأرض بالتعاون مع «ترشيد»
Hamad International Airport (HIA) through its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kahramaa in partnership with the National Programme for Conservation & Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed,” joined hands to celebrate Earth Day on April 22.
Launched by Abdulaziz Al Mass, HIA Vice-President of Commercial and Marketing, and Eng. Abdulaziz Al Hammadi, Kahramaa Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department Manager, the two-week awareness campaign includes a booth placed at the airport to highlight Qatar’s contribution to combating climate change through Tarsheed & HIA’s efforts to decrease its carbon foot-print and, improve energy efficiency and conservation in Qatar.
Commenting on the event, Al Mass stated: “We are delighted to collaborate with Tarsheed to celebrate Earth Day. At HIA, we believe in our environmental responsibility and are committed to tackling climate change within the context of our strategy. We are committed to supporting Tarsheed’s initiatives and hope the booth will create awareness to passengers traveling through HIA.”
Eng. Al Hammadi said: “Both Tarsheed and HIA support the Earth Day Global Celebration which is touching people worldwide due to global climate change. Our partnership with HIA has given us the best platform for our booth to help raise awareness to global & local passengers travelling through the terminal. HIA is one of the most sustainable airports in the world and is joining hands with Tarsheed, the Primary Government Program, in sustainability in Qatar.”
Al Hammadi added: “Through the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency ‘Tarsheed’, Kahramaa disseminates the awareness, regulations and technologies related to energy efficiency and renewable energy. Therefore, we cooperate with all institutions and sectors in the country to achieve this goal.”
This new initiative follows in the tracks of the existing MoU between HIA, Qatar Airways and Tarsheed, which was implemented last year to achieve long-term sustainability and energy conservation in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Through this framework, Tarsheed conducted staff trainings for both HIA and Qatar Airways on best practices for electricity and water conservation as well as energy efficiency, in addition to planned energy audits at HIA’s award-winning passenger terminal and at Qatar Airways head offices.
HIA successfully retained its Airport Carbon Accreditation at Level 3 in 2018. The airport’s renewal came after successfully reaching Level 3 ‘Optimisation’ status in the Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Carbon Accreditation program. The airport is the first airport among the Gulf countries and only the second in the MENA region to achieve this accreditation.
HIA is currently targeting to improve carbon efficiency per passenger by 30 percent by 2030 against a 2015 baseline and has achieved significant progress. In addition to a fuel-saving program aimed at reducing fuel consumption through operational practice and driver awareness, the airport’s Carbon Management Plan encourages the participation of the airport’s stakeholders including passengers, Qatar Airways and its subsidiaries, government stakeholders, private operators, and retailers to engage in environmentally-conscious practices and reduce carbon emissions across the airport campus.
احتفل مطار حمد الدولي بيوم الأرض 2019 الذي يوافق 22 أبريل الجاري، وذلك بإطلاقه حملة توعية تستمر على مدى أسبوعين، وتدشينه جناحاً داخل المطار لتسليط الضوء على إسهامات قطر في التصدي لظاهرة التغير المناخي عبر البرنامج الوطني للترشيد وكفاءة الطاقة «ترشيد» وجهود المطار في خفض انبعاثات الكربون وتحسين كفاءة الطاقة في قطر. ويأتي انضمام المطار لهذه الجهود، من خلال مذكرة التفاهم الموقعة مع المؤسسة العامة القطرية للكهرباء والماء «كهرماء»، ممثلة في «ترشيد».
تتضمن الحملة التوعوية التي شارك في إطلاقها كل من السيد عبدالعزيز الماس، نائب الرئيس التنفيذي للعمليات التجارية والتسويق في مطار حمد الدولي، والمهندس عبد العزيز الحمادي مدير إدارة الترشيد وكفاءة الطاقة في كهرماء، والتي تستمر على مدى أسبوعين، إنشاء جناح خاص داخل المطار لتسليط الضوء على إسهامات قطر في التصدي لظاهرة التغير المناخي، عبر جهود مبادرة «ترشيد» ومطار حمد الدولي لخفض انبعاثات الكربون، وتحسين كفاءة استخدام الطاقة، ودعم جهود الترشيد في قطر.
وبهذه المناسبة؛ علَّق الماس قائلاً: «يسعدنا أن نتعاون مع مبادرة ترشيد في الاحتفال بيوم الأرض. ونحن في مطار حمد الدولي نؤمن بمسؤوليتنا نحو البيئة، ونلتزم بالتصدي لظاهرة التغير المناخي، في إطار استراتيجيتنا الخاصة بذلك. كما أننا ملتزمون بدعم مبادرة ترشيد ونأمل أن يعزز هذا الجناح من مستوى الوعي لدى المسافرين عبر مطار حمد الدولي».
وقال المهندس الحمادي: «تدعم مبادرة ترشيد ومطار حمد الدولي الاحتفالات العالمية بيوم الأرض الذي يتجاوب معه الناس في جميع أنحاء العالم، من أجل التصدي لظاهرة التغير المناخي العالمي. لقد منحتنا شراكتنا مع مطار حمد الدولي منصة مثالية لجناحنا الذي نسعى من خلاله للمساعدة في تعزيز الوعي لدى المسافرين عبر المطار من شتى أنحاء العالم. إن مطار حمد الدولي هو أحد أكثر المطارات استدامة في العالم، ويتعاون بشكل إيجابي للغاية مع برنامج ترشيد الذي يعتبر البرنامج الرئيسي المسؤول عن تعزيز الجهود الوطنية للاستدامة في قطر».
وأضاف المهندس الحمادي: «من خلال البرنامج الوطني للترشيد وكفاءة الطاقة «ترشيد»، تعزز كهرماء الوعي، وتُعرِّف باللوائح والتكنولوجيا الخاصة بكفاءة استخدام الطاقة والطاقة المتجددة. ولذلك، فنحن نتعاون مع جميع المؤسسات والقطاعات في البلاد سعياً لتحقيق هذه الغاية».
