CRA to attend Geneva World Summit on Information Society Forum

A high-level Qatari delegation headed by Mohammed Ali Al Mannai, President of the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), is attending the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2019. The forum will be held in Geneva, Switzerland from April 8 to 12, under the theme “Information and Communication Technologies for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals”.
The core aim of the forum is to align the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that covers a wide range of social and economic development issues worldwide with WSIS Action Lines, to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs.
The forum will include high-level policy sessions, ministerial round tables and more than 100 workshops on various topics including artificial intelligence and data privacy, blockchain and data protection, the role of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in academia, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, smart cities, and fifth generation (5G) technologies. An exhibition will also be held on the sidelines of the forum alongside a WSIS Prizes ceremony, which aims to provide recognition to the projects that succeeded in implementing development-oriented strategies that leverage the power of ICTs as an enabler of the development.
CRA ensures to attend and participate in international seminars, conferences and forums, at the aim of enhancing partnerships and staying up to date with the latest developments and international best practices in the field of ICTs.
That provides additional valuable inputs during CRA’s development of innovative regulatory frameworks, which ensures ICT sector progress for the benefit of consumers and stakeholders in the State of Qatar, and ensure contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals 2030, on both local and global levels.
This year WSIS Forum is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its establishment, an event that represents the world’s largest annual gathering of the ‘ICT for development’ community. More than 30 international organisations and unions are co-organising WSIS 2019, including the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Universal Postal Union (UPU), The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), and others.
More than 3,000 participants will attend the forum from over 150 countries around the world, representing multi-stakeholders including government, civil society, private sector, academia and international organisations. WSIS provides the multi-stakeholders with an opportunity to foster partnerships, as well as exchanging information, experiences and best practices.
يشارك وفد قطري رفيع المستوى، برئاسة سعادة السيد محمد علي المناعي، رئيس هيئة تنظيم الاتصالات في منتدى القمة العالمية لمجتمع المعلومات لعام 2019 (WSIS 2019) الذي يقام في الفترة الممتدة بين 8 أبريل و12 أبريل 2019 في مدينة جنيف في سويسرا، تحت عنوان «تكنولوجيات المعلومات والاتصالات لتحقيق أهداف التنمية المستدامة». يهدف المنتدى إلى الربط بين أهداف التنمية المستدامة التي وُضعت من قِبل منظمة الأمم المتحدة، وتغطي مجموعة واسعة من قضايا التنمية الاجتماعية والاقتصادية على مستوى العالم وبين خطوط عمل القمة، وذلك لتسريع وتيرة تحقيق هذه الأهداف.
سيتضمن المنتدى جلسات رفيعة المستوى للسياسة العامة، واجتماعات الطاولة المستديرة الوزارية، وعلى أكثر من 100 ورشة عمل حول مواضيع متعددة، ومنها: الذكاء الاصطناعي وخصوصية البيانات، وتقنية البلوك تشين وحماية البيانات، ودور تكنولوجيا الاتصالات والمعلومات في البيئة الأكاديمية، والأمن السيبراني، والذكاء الاصطناعي، والمدن الذكية، وتكنولوجيا الجيل الخامس من الإنترنت. كما سيكون هناك معرض مصاحب لأعمال المنتدى، وحفل جوائز القمة العالمية لمجتمع المعلومات، لتكريم المشاريع التي نجحت في تنفيذ الاستراتيجيات الموجهة نحو التنمية، والتي تسخر قدرة تكنولوجيات المعلومات والاتصالات في دفع عجلة التنمية.

تولي هيئة تنظيم الاتصالات اهتماماً كبيراً بالحضور والمشاركة في الندوات والمؤتمرات والمنتديات العالمية، لتعزيز الشراكات وللاطلاع على آخر التطورات وأفضل الممارسات المتبعة على مستوى العالم في مجال تكنولوجيات المعلومات والاتصالات، الأمر الذي يساهم في تقديم مدخلات إضافية قيمة خلال وضع الهيئة للأطر التنظيمية المبتكرة التي تضمن تطور قطاع الاتصالات وتكنولوجيا المعلومات بما يعود بالفائدة على المستهلكين وأصحاب المصلحة في دولة قطر، ويساهم في تحقيق أهداف التنمية المستدامة 2030، سواء على المستوى المحلي أو العالمي.
يحتفل المنتدى هذا العام بالذكرى العاشرة لتأسيسه، ويعد أكبر لقاء سنوي لمجتمع «تكنولوجيا المعلومات والاتصالات من أجل التنمية»، حيث يشارك في تنظيمه أكثر من 30 منظمة واتحاد دولي، ومنهم الاتحاد الدولي للاتصالات والاتحاد البريدي العالمي، واليونسكو، واليونيسف، وغيرهم. كما يجتمع فيه أكثر من 3000 مشارك من أصحاب المصلحة المتعددين من المؤسسات الحكومية، ومؤسسات المجتمع المدني، ومؤسسات القطاع الخاص، والمؤسسات الأكاديمية، والمنظمات الدولية من أكثر من 150 دولة من حول العالم. ويوفر المنتدى لأصحاب المصلحة المتعددين فرصة لتعزيز الشراكات، وتبادل المعلومات والخبرات، وأفضل الممارسات المتبعة في المجال.
