Qatar: Golan Heights an occupied Arab land

Doha: The State of Qatar stressed yesterday its position that Golan Heights is an occupied Arab land, and strongly rejected any attempts to undermine international resolutions which confirm that Golan belongs to Syria and is occupied by Israel.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that Qatar stresses that aiding Israeli occupation undermine international resolutions related to occupied Golan Heights, particularly UN Resolution No. 497 of 1981 and will not change the fact that the land belongs to an Arab country and is under occupation, pointing out that Israel’s imposition of its laws, jurisdiction and administration on Golan is void and without any legal effect.
The statement also said that Israeli occupation must abide by the UN resolutions and withdraw from all occupied Arab land, including Golan Heights. The statement also stressed that any unilateral measures recognising Israel’s sovereignty over the area represents a huge obstacle to peace.

Israel unilaterally annexed the Golan Heights in 1981. The UN Security Council resolution 497, issued after the annexation, refers to Israel as “the occupying power” and says Israel’s attempt to “impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights is null and void and without international legal effect.”

أكدت دولة قطر على موقفها المبدئي الثابت بأن هضبة الجولان أرض عربية محتلة، وأعربت عن رفضها بأشد العبارات لأية محاولات للقفز فوق القرارات الدولية التي تؤكد تبعية الجولان المحتل لسوريا وتصف استيلاء إسرائيل عليها بالاحتلال.
وقالت وزارة الخارجية، في بيان اليوم، “إن دولة قطر تؤكد أن مساعدة الاحتلال الإسرائيلي على ازدراء القرارات الأممية ذات الصلة بهضبة الجولان المحتلة وخصوصا قرار مجلس الأمن رقم /497/ لسنة 1981 لن تغير من حقيقة أن الهضبة أرض عربية محتلة”، مشيرة إلى “أن فرض إسرائيل قوانينها وولايتها وإدارتها على الجولان يعد باطلا ولاغيا ودون أي أثر قانوني”.
وشدد البيان على ضرورة امتثال الاحتلال الإسرائيلي لقرارات الشرعية الدولية بالانسحاب من كافة الأراضي العربية المحتلة بما فيها هضبة الجولان .. مؤكدا أن أية قرارات أحادية للاعتراف بسيادة إسرائيل على الجولان ستشكل عائقا كبيرا أمام السلام المنشود بالمنطقة.
