CRA reviews ties with European Telecommunications Standards Institute
«ETSI» يطّلع على تطورات قطاع الاتصالات القطري
Doha: The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) met last week at its headquarters with a delegation from the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). The delegation’s meetings aimed at enhancing the relations and cooperation between the CRA and ETSI in the field of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), particularly standards development and recognition.
During the meetings, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute presented their role and responsibilities in relation to the development of related international standards.
The European Telecommunications Standards Institute also socialised the benefits of standards to support development of ICT.
The Communications Regulatory Authority briefed the delegation about its mandate and role in addition to the latest technologies, developments and achievements of the ICT sector in Qatar.
“The CRA welcomes ETSI’s visit. We ensure that Qatar leads in ICT at regional level; to this end, the CRA maintains regular communications with related International organisations, to stay up to date with the latest developments in the ICT sector and with international standards in particular. This in turn contributes to Qatar’s early standards adoption and to the development of the sector taking into consideration international best practices and standards, which lead to the assurance of the provision of smart, innovative, and high-quality services to the consumers in Qatar,” said Eng. Abdulla Jassmi, Technical Affairs Department Manager, the Communications Regulatory Authority.
As part of the visit, ETSI met with the telecom service providers, Qatar Foundation, the College of the North Atlantic – Qatar, Texas A&M University, Carnegie Mellon University, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar University, Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC), and Msheireb Properties. The meetings included discussions about the standards adopted by these entities and ways of cooperation between them and ETSI.
The European Telecommunications Standards Institute is a nonprofit organization and is one of only three bodies officially recognised by the European Union as a European Standards Organization in the field of telecommunications, broadcasting and other electronic communications networks and services.
The European Telecommunications Standards Institute membership includes more than 850 member organisations from over 60 countries and five continents.
ETSI provides benefits to the members; access to the most up-to-date information on global ICT standards and direct participation in standards development.
اجتمعت هيئة تنظيم الاتصالات في مقرها الأسبوع الماضي، مع وفد من المعهد الأوروبي لمعايير الاتصالات السلكية واللاسلكية «ETSI»، بهدف تعزيز العلاقات والتعاون بين الجانبين في مجال الاتصالات وتكنولوجيا المعلومات، خاصة فيما يتعلق بوضع المعايير والمقاييس والاعتراف بها، استمرت زيارة الوفد الرسمية لـ 4 أيام، وذلك في الفترة الممتدة بين 4 و7 مارس 2019. قدم المعهد خلال الاجتماع عرضاً توضيحياً عن دوره ومسؤولياته فيما يتعلق بتطوير المعايير العالمية ذات الصلة، بالإضافة إلى الحديث عن أهمية المعايير في دعم تطوير الاتصالات وتكنولوجيا المعلومات، وقامت الهيئة من جانبها بتعريفهم بصلاحياتها وبدورها، كما أطلعت الوفد على أحدث التكنولوجيات وآخر التطورات والإنجازات في قطاع الاتصالات وتكنولوجيا المعلومات في دولة قطر.
بهذه المناسبة، قال المهندس عبدالله جسمي مدير إدارة الشؤون الفنية في هيئة تنظيم الاتصالات: «لقد سعدنا بزيارة المعهد الأوروبي لمعايير الاتصالات السلكية واللاسلكية، فالهيئة تحرص على أن تكون دولة قطر رائدة في مجال الاتصالات وتكنولوجيا المعلومات على مستوى المنطقة، ولهذا تعمل الهيئة على التواصل مع المنظمات العالمية ذات الصلة للاطلاع على آخر المستجدات في قطاع الاتصالات وتكنولوجيا المعلومات، وخاصة فيما يتعلق بالمعايير العالمية، الأمر الذي يساهم بدوره في تبني دولة قطر للمعايير في وقت مبكر، وتطوير القطاع بما يتوافق مع أفضل الممارسات والمعايير العالمية، وبالتالي ضمان توفر خدمات ذكية ومبتكرة وعالية الجودة للمستهلكين في دولة قطر».

وكجانب من الزيارة الرسمية، اجتمع الوفد مع مقدمي خدمات الاتصالات، ومؤسسة قطر للتربية والعلوم وتنمية المجتمع، وكلية شمال الأطلنطي في قطر، وجامعة تكساس أي أند أم في قطر، وجامعة كارنيجي ميلون في قطر، وجامعة حمد بن خليفة، وجامعة قطر، ومركز قطر للابتكارات التكنولوجية «QMIC»، ومشيرب العقارية، للتعرف على المعايير المعتمدة لديهم، ومناقشة سبل التعاون بينهم وبين المعهد.
يعتبر المعهد منظمة غير ربحية، وهو واحد من الثلاث هيئات المعترف بها رسمياً من قبل الاتحاد الأوروبي كمنظمة للمعايير الأوروبية في مجال الاتصالات والبثّ الإذاعي، بالإضافة إلى شبكات وخدمات الاتصالات الإلكترونية الأخرى، يضم المعهد في عضويته أكثر من 850 منظمة من أكثر من 60 دولة وخمس قارات، ويقدم المعهد للأعضاء فرصة الوصول إلى أحدث المعلومات حول المعايير العالمية للاتصالات وتكنولوجيا المعلومات، بالإضافة إلى فرصة المشاركة المباشرة في تطوير المعايير.
