Clean-up drive: 904 tonnes of waste removed from beaches
إزالة 904 أطنان مخلفات في حملة تنظيف الشواطئ الشمالية الغربية
Doha: The Ministry of Municipality and Environment, represented by the General Cleanliness Department has cleaned the beaches of northwestern part of the country in a stretch of 75km under a massive cleaning campaign of over 65 days.
A total of 904 tonnes of different types of wastes including two dead animals were removed under the campaign.
“The cleaning campaign was launched within the programmes of Department to clean out the beaches across the country,” said Safar Al Shafi, Director of the General Cleanliness Department.
“The programmes are being implemented in a smooth manner without having any affect on the daily routine works of the Department.”
“The cleaning campaign which began on December 9, 2018 concluded on February 11, 2019,” said Al Shafi adding that the operation was conducted in three phases.
He said that the first phase included cleaning the beaches from Abuzlof to Zubarah areas, passing through the areas of Al Jameel, Khadaj, Arish, Al Hadiya and Fareeha in a stretch of 30km where over 520 tonnes of miscellaneous wastes were removed.
“Under second phase campaign, over 232 tonnes of wastes were removed from Al Zubara to Umm Hish areas,” said Al Shafi adding that the third phase included cleaning operation from Umm Hayish to Zikrit area, during which 152 tonnes of miscellaneous wastes were removed.
He stressed that the Ministry of Municipality and Environment attached great importance to maintain hygiene at beaches and islands as they were considered recreational and picnicking places attracting huge number of visitors including citizens and expatriates especially during weekends and official holidays.
Al Shafi urged people to cooperate with the Ministry to keep the beaches and the islands cleaned and hygienic by throwing wastes in the garbage-bins placed at the beaches.
على مدى 65 يوماً، نفّذت وزارة البلدية والبيئة -ممثلة بإدارة النظافة العامة- حملة نظافة شاملة للشواطئ الشمالية الغربية للدولة بطول 75 كلم، تم خلالها رفع وإزالة 904 أطنان من المخلفات المتنوعة و2 من الحيوانات النافقة.
وذكر السيد سفر آل شافي، مدير إدارة النظافة العامة، أن الحملة تأتي في برامج الإدارة لتنظيف الشواطئ في جميع مناطق الدولة، والتي يتم العمل على تنفيذها بشكل انسيابي بحيث لا تؤثّر على برامج العمل اليومية، موضحاً أن الحملة بدأت 12 سبتمبر من العام الماضي وانتهت يوم 11 نوفمبر من العام نفسه؛ حيث تم توزيع العمل على 3 مراحل.
وقال إن المرحلة الأولى شملت تنظيف الشواطئ من منطقة أبوظلوف حتى منطقة الزبارة، مروراً بمناطق الجميل وخداج والعريش والحدية وفريحة، وبلغ طولها 30 كيلو متراً، وقد تم خلالها إزالة 520 طناً تقريباً من المخلفات المتنوعة، وتم خلال المرحلة الثانية التي شملت تنظيف منطقة الزبارة وحتى منطقة أم حيش إزالة 232 طناً من المخلفات، أما المرحلة الثالثة فقد شملت التنظيف من منطقة أم حيش وحتى منطقة زكريت، وتم خلالها إزالة 152 طناً من المخلفات المتنوعة.
وأكد أن الوزارة تولي نظافة الشواطئ والجزر اهتماماً كبيراً، باعتبارها مواقع ترويحية ومهمة، ولضمان بقائها نظيفة طوال أيام السنة، وخاصة أيام العطلات الأسبوعية والإجازات الرسمية لاستقبال المواطنين والمقيمين والزوار.
وناشد السيد آل شافي الجمهور الكريم بالتعاون مع جهود الوزارة في الحفاظ على نظافة الشواطئ والجزر، وذلك بالالتزام برمي المخلفات في الحاويات المخصصة لها، وعدم رميها على الشواطئ، حفاظاً على النظافة العامة وسلامة البيئة، والمنظر الجمالي العام لشواطئ الدولة.
