Sidra transmits live interventional cardiac procedures
«سدرة للطب» يبثّ بشكل مباشر إجراءات تدخلات قلبية
Sidra Medicine has transmitted via broadband WiFi, live interventional cardiac procedures from its cardiac catheterisation laboratories in Qatar to a delegation of over 800 healthcare professionals at the 22nd Annual Paediatric and Adult Interventional Cardiac Symposium (PICS-AICS) in San Diego, US.
PICS-AICS is one of the largest cardiac symposiums dedicated to the latest breakthroughs in the treatment of patients with congenital and structural heart diseases. PICS-AICS was founded by Professor Ziyad M Hijazi in 1997 and attracts hundreds of delegates from all over the world. Prof Hijazi is the chairman of PICS-AICS and also executive chair of medicine and the medical director of Heart Centre at Sidra Medicine.
This year’s PICS-AICS symposium, focused on ‘Quality and Outcomes’. In addition to presentations and abstracts, the symposium aired taped and live cases evaluating congenital and structural heart diseases as well as interventions such as minimally invasive hybrid ventricular septal defect closure, lymphatic interventions and ductal stenting.
Prof Hijazi said, “It gives me great pride that for the second year running, our team at Sidra Medicine transmitted two live cases from Qatar, to the delegates in the US. We were among only 11 centres chosen worldwide to feature live case demonstrations. It was a fantastic opportunity to highlight our cutting-edge techniques and highly skilled teams. For a main hospital that has only been operational for a year and a half, it also showcases our advances in the field of interventional cardiology.”
A team led by Dr Younes Boudjemline, director of the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories at Sidra Medicine’s Heart Centre conducted the live interventional cardiac procedures in Qatar. The two patients -a child and an adult- were born with congenital heart defects.
Both patients, had a narrow aorta (coarctation) leading to high blood pressure. Dr Boudjemline’s and his team used a minimally invasive technique on the patients, to successfully address the narrowing with the use of balloon angioplasty and stent technique.

Both the live cases were successful and the patients have been discharged. بثّ «سدرة للطب» عبر اتصال واي فاي عريض النطاق، إجراءات تدخلات قلبية بثاً حياً من معامل القسطرة القلبية التابعة له في قطر، إلى حضور بلغ عددهم أكثر من 800 من مختصي الرعاية الصحية، في الندوة السنوية الثانية والعشرين لطبّ القلب التدخلي للأطفال والبالغين «PICS-AICS»، في سان دييجو بالولايات المتحدة الأميركية.
تُعد ندوات طبّ القلب التدخلي للأطفال والبالغين «PICS-AICS» واحدة من أكبر ندوات طبّ القلب المخصصة لمتابعة أحدث التطورات في مجال علاج المرضى المصابين بأمراض القلب الخلقية والبنيوية.
وركزت ندوة «PICS-AICS» لهذا العام، والتي انعقدت في الفترة من 4 إلى 7 سبتمبر 2019 في سان دييجو، على الجودة والنتائج، وبالإضافة إلى العروض التقديمية والملخصات، بثّت الندوة حالات مسجلة وحية لتقييم أمراض القلب الخلقية والبنيوية، إلى جانب بعض التدخلات مثل عملية إغلاق عيب الحاجز البطيني الهجينة ذات التدخل الجراحي المحدود، والتدخلات الليمفاوية وتركيب الدعامات القنوية.
ومن جانبه، قال البروفيسور زياد م. حجازي رئيس إدارة طبّ الأطفال والمدير الطبي لمركز التميز في طب القلب والأوعية الدموية في «سدرة»: «إن الهدف من تأسيس ندوات PICS-AICS هو توعية الأطباء وأعضاء فرق التمريض بأحدث التطورات العلمية والتقنية في مجال عيوب القلب الخلقية والبنيوية، ومن دواعي شعوري بالفخر أن فريقنا في سدرة للطب قد قام، وللعام الثاني على التوالي، ببثّ حالتين بثاً حياً من قطر، إلى الحضور في الولايات المتحدة الأميركية، لقد كنّا من بين 11 مركزاً فقط تم اختيارها حول العالم لتقديم عروض حالات بالبثّ الحي».
وقام فريق طبي بقيادة د. يونس بوجملين مدير معامل قسطرة القلب بمركز القلب بـ «سدرة للطبّ»، بتنفيذ الإجراءات التدخلية بالبثّ الحيّ في قطر على مريضَين، أحدهما طفل والآخر بالغ، وُلدا مصابين بعيوب خلقية في القلب.
وكان المريضان يعانيان من تضيق في الشريان الأبهر يؤدي إلى ارتفاع ضغط الدم، وقد تعامل د. بوجملين وفريقه مع الحالة بأسلوب التدخل الجراحي المحدود، لعلاج التضيق بنجاح باستخدام أسلوب رأب الوعاء بالبالون ووضع الدعامة.
وتعقيباً على ذلك، قال د. بوجملين: «سدرة للطب ملتزم بالبقاء في الصدارة فيما يتعلق بالتقنيات الرائدة التي من شأنها أن تُحدث تحولاً في علاج مرضانا ورعايتهم، وقد أسس مركز القلب باعتباره مركزاً للتميز، وبصفتنا مستشفى مكرساً للتعليم الطبي أيضاً، فإن ندوات PICS-AICS تُعد منصّة رائعة لإبراز خبرتنا على الساحة العالمية، وقد تكللت كل من حالتي البثّ الحيّ بالنجاح، وصُرِّح للمريضين بالخروج».
