Beirut declaration hails Qatar’s $50m contribution

Beirut: The Beirut declaration of the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit expressed appreciation to the directives of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for Qatar to contribute $50m in the initiative of Amir of Kuwait H H Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah to create a fund to support technology and digital economy.
The declaration also expressed appreciation for the initiative of the Amir of Kuwait to establish an investment fund with a capital of $200m, with the state of Kuwait participating with $50m.
The conferees called on Arab countries to support this initiative to contribute to the strengthening of the Arab economy and create promising jobs for the Arab youth, while hoping that banks and joint Arab financing institutions will consider deducting their annual net profit to support future needs and to ensure the continuity of this fund.
Leaders of the Arab countries stressed in the conclusion of the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit in Beirut their commitment to all the resolutions of previous summits starting in Kuwait in 2009, Sharm El Sheikh in 2011, and in Riyadh in 2013. They also stressed the importance of removing barriers and obstacles that prevent those resolutions from being implemented, thus enabling the completion of the joint economic, social and developmental process in a manner that serves the Arab citizens and improves their standard of living.
Earlier, H H the Amir took part in the opening session of the 4th Arab Economic and Social Development Summit.
H H the Amir met with the President of the Lebanese Republic, General Michel Aoun, ahead of the summit at the conference centre in Beirut.
The meeting reviewed the most important topics on the agenda of the summit, in addition to the relations of cooperation between the two brotherly countries and means of promoting them to wider horizons. H H the Amir and the Lebanese President also exchanged views on the current issues on the regional and international arenas.
Their Excellencies members of the official delegation accompanying H H the Amir attended the meeting. The meeting was attended from the Lebanese side by a number of Ministers.
Earlier, the President of the Lebanese Republic led the well-wishers to welcome H H the Amir and the accompanying delegation upon arrival at Rafic Hariri International Airport.
H H the Amir and the accompanying delegation were also welcomed by Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Gebran Bassil, Lebanese Minister of State for Presidency Affairs Dr. Pierre Raffoul, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Lebanon Mohammed Hassan Al Jaber, Ambassador of Lebanon to Qatar Hassan Najem and a number of senior Lebanese officials. H H the Amir was accorded an official reception ceremony.
On departure from Beirut after attending the summit, H H the Amir and the accompanying delegation were seen off at Rafic Hariri International Airport by Lebanon’s State Minister for Presidential Affairs Pierre Raffoul and a number of senior officials.
H H the Amir sent a cable to the President of the Lebanese Republic Michel Aoun, expressing sincere thanks and appreciation for the warm welcome and hospitality accorded to him and the accompanying delegation during their stay in Beirut expressing hope that the Summit results would contribute to supporting and promoting joint Arab action for the interests of the Arab peoples, and wishing the President good health and well-being and the brotherly Lebanese people further progress and prosperity.
بتوجيه من حضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى، أعلنت دولة قطر عن تبرعها بمبلغ 50 مليون دولار لصالح مبادرة سمو الشيخ صباح الأحمد الجابر الصباح أمير دولة الكويت بإنشاء صندوق عربي للاستثمار في مجالات التكنولوجيا والاقتصاد الرقمي.
جاء الإعلان عن ذلك في مداخلة لسعادة السيد علي شريف العمادي وزير المالية خلال أعمال القمة العربية التنموية الاقتصادية والاجتماعية في دورتها الرابعة برئاسة الجمهورية اللبنانية التي اختتمت أعمالها في بيروت اليوم.
