Qatar-Indonesia ties ‘at an all-time high’

Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar Muhammad Basri Sidehabi underlined the strong bilateral ties between Indonesia and Qatar during the celebration of the 73rd anniversary of Proclamation of Indonesia’s Independence on Sunday.

Addressing the occasion, the envoy described the current state of relations between the two countries “at an all-time high” with the exchange of high level visits and significant progress in cooperation in various fields.

In 2015, Indonesian President Joko Widodo visited Qatar while Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani visited Indonesia last year, he noted.

“The bilateral trade volume of the two countries was recorded at $977.8m from January to August of this year. There is also a significant increase of visitors from Qatar to Indonesia and vice-versa,” said Sidehabi.

He added: “As Qatar has increased its presence in Indonesia through investments in telecommunication, energy, retail and banking sectors, Indonesia has also played a role in the development of Qatar. To date there are approximately 8,000 Indonesians working as professionals throughout Qatar and their families,”

He said that a 50-member delegation of Indonesian government officials and Indonesian chamber of commerce and industry are currently in Doha to discuss matters of mutual concern with their counterparts, as well as to pursue new linkages with the people of Qatar.

“I believe increased people-to-people contact will foster everlasting ties and bonds between our two countries. In turn, it will form a strong platform to launch new venues of cooperation,” he stressed.

As Indonesia marked its 73rd independence, Sidehabi also underscored the country’s pursuit “to actively contribute in establishing a world order founded on freedom, everlasting peace and social justice.”

“To this end, thanks to the support of many, I am glad that we have earned a seat as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the period of 2019-2020. Rest assured, we will use this mandate to pursue an everlasting world peace and prosperity to all,” said the ambassador.

Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Dr. Gaith bin Mubarak Al Kuwari; Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Ahmad Hassan Al-Hamadi; Director of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro; and Dean of Diplomatic Corps, Eritrean Ambassador to Qatar Ali Ibrahim Ahmed were among the guests at the event held at Sheraton Grand Doha Resort and Convention Hotel.

Ambassadors and other members of the diplomatic community, guests and other dignitaries as well as members of the Indonesian community were among those who attended the auspicious occasion during which Sidehabi took the opportunity to thank everyone for their longstanding support to Indonesia-Qatar relations and to the Indonesian Embassy.

“On behalf of the government and people of the Republic of Indonesia I would like to thank His Highness the Amir and the Qatari Government for supporting the Embassy and the Indonesian society in Qatar,” he said.

The celebration also featured cultural presentations including Saman dance also known as ‘the dance of a thousand hands’ and performance of Angklung, a native Indonesian instrument. Both Saman dance and Angklung have been declared by Unesco as Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity which need to be safeguarded, transmitted and promoted.

أشاد سعادة محمد بصري سيديهابي سفير إندونيسيا لدى الدولة، بالعلاقات القطرية الإندونيسية، قائلاً إنها علاقات متطورة وعالية في كل الأوقات. جاء ذلك خلال حفل استقبال أقامته سفارة اندونيسيا في الدوحة مساء أمس الأول بمشاركة كل من سعادة الدكتور غيث بن مبارك الكواري، وزير الأوقاف والشؤون الإسلامية، وسعادة الدكتور أحمد بن حسن الحمادي، أمين عام وزارة الخارجية، وسعادة السفير إبراهيم يوسف فخرو، مدير إدارة المراسم بوزارة الخارجية، وسعادة السيد علي إبراهيم أحمد، عميد السلك الدبلوماسي سفير دولة إريتريا في قطر، وعدد من السفراء ورؤساء البعثات الدبلوماسية المعتمدين لدى الدولة.

وتطرق السفير الإندونيسي إلى زيارة حضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني، إلى إندونيسيا في أكتوبر من العام الماضي، بينما قام رئيس جمهورية إندونيسيا بزيارة إلى قطر في سبتمبر عام 2015. وقال السفير سيديهابي إن حجم التجارة الثنائية بين البلدين بلغ 977.8 مليون دولار أمريكي من يناير إلى اغسطس 2018، مشيرا إلى أن هناك أيضا زيادة كبيرة من زوار قطر إلى اندونيسيا والعكس بالعكس.

وأوضح أن قطر زادت وجودها في اندونيسيا من خلال الاستثمارات في قطاعات مختلفة، مثل الاتصالات والطاقة وتجارة التجزئة والبنوك، كما لعبت اندونيسيا دورا في تطوير قطر، فحتى الآن يوجد 8 آلاف اندونيسي يعملون كمحترفين في قطر ومهنيين في جميع المجالات بقطر هم وعائلاتهم. وألمح إلى زيارة وفد من المسؤولين الاندونيسيين وعدد من ممثلي غرفة التجارة والصناعة الاندونيسية. إلى قطر لمناقشة المسائل ذات الاهتمام المشترك مع نظرائهم وبالاضافة الى متابعة الروابط الجديدة مع شعب قطر.

وتقدم السفير سيديهابي نيابة عن حكومة وشعب اندونيسيا بالشكر لحضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى، والحكومة القطرية على دعمهم للسفارة والمجتمع الاندونيسي في قطر. كما أعرب عن تقديره العميق لنائب رئيس مجلس الوزراء وزير الخارجية الشيخ محمد بن عبدالرحمن آل ثاني، على دعمه الكبير ولاسهامه في إطلاق وتعزيز علاقتنا الثنائية.

وحول الاحتفال بالعيد الوطني لبلاده قال إن اندونيسيا اعلنت استقلالها في 17 أغسطس 1945، وقد حدث الكثير منذ ذلك الوقت. واضاف:”اننا نحافظ على صدق اهدافنا الوطنية بما في ذلك المساهمة بنشاط في تأسيس نظام عالمي يقوم على الحرية والسلام الدائم والعدالة الاجتماعية”. وأشار إلى أنه لتحقيق هذه الغاية، وبفضل دعم العديد من الأطراف يسرني أننا حصلنا على مقعد كعضو غير دائم في مجلس الامن خلال 2019 إلى 2020، ونحن على يقين بأننا نستخدم تلك الفترة لمتابعة السلام والازدهار العالمي الأبدي للجميع.
