PM opens Qatar School of Science and Technology for Boys

Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani inaugurated Qatar School of Science and Technology for Boys in Umm Al Seneem area, yesterday.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi and a number of senior officials, educators and those interested in educational affairs. During the ceremony, a documentary film about the school and stages of its establishment in addition to its goals was presented. Educational process in the State of Qatar was also presented in the film.
After the ceremony, the Prime Minister toured the school during which he was briefed on the various educational and training programmes and facilities specialised in science and technology. H E the Prime Minister also listened to detailed explanation about the role of the school in providing a high-quality education based on integration of scientific subjects.
H E The Prime Minister affirmed that the State of Qatar, under the leadership of the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, attaches importance to the educational system, praising the idea of establishing Qatar School of Science and Technology and its mission and vision by providing students with innovative and stimulating educational experiences in the fields of science and technology, especially in research, development and problem solving, preparing them to contribute effectively to the knowledge-based economy, achieving Qatar National Vision 2030 and providing the country with qualified educational outputs capable of continuing university studies or engage in the labor market.
Qatar School of Science and Technology is a specialised secondary school that includes grades from 9 to 12. It adopts an integrated educational approach based on the teaching of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in an integrated manner.
This approach is universally known as “STEM Education” that focuses on the study of the four subjects in methodological frameworks designed for this type of education, without the need to teach them separately.
The study started for the first time at the School at the beginning of the current academic year 2018/2019, with the enrolment of 60 Qatari students in grade 9.

حضر حفل التدشين سعادة الدكتور محمد بن عبدالواحد الحمادي وزير التعليم والتعليم العالي وعدد من كبار المسؤولين والتربويين والمهتمين بالشأن التعليمي والتربوي .
تم خلال الحفل عرض فيلم وثائقي عن المدرسة ومراحل إنشائها وأهدافها ومسيرة التعليم في قطر .
وعقب الحفل، قام معالي رئيس مجلس الوزراء ووزير الداخلية بجولة بالمدرسة اطلع خلالها على مختلف المرافق والبرامج التعليمية والتربوية والتدريبية المتخصصة في مجال العلوم والتكنولوجيا، كما استمع إلى شرح مفصل عن الدور الذي تضطلع به المدرسة من حيث توفير تعليم عالي الجودة قائم على التكامل بين المواد العلمية .
وقد أكد معاليه اهتمام دولة قطر بقيادة حضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى بالمنظومة التعليمية في قطر، وأشاد بفكرة إنشاء مدرسة قطر للعلوم والتكنولوجيا ورسالتها ورؤيتها بتوفير خبرات تعليمية مبتكرة ومحفزة في مجالات العلوم والتكنولوجيا، لاسيما في مجالات البحث والتطوير وحل المشكلات، وإعدادهم للمساهمة الفاعلة في الاقتصاد القائم على المعرفة وتحقيق رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030 ، ورفد البلاد بمخرجات تعليمية مؤهلة قادرة على مواصلة دراساتها الجامعية أو الانخراط في سوق العمل .
يذكر أن مدرسة قطر للعلوم والتكنولوجيا الجديدة، هي مدرسة ثانوية علمية تخصصية، من الصف التاسع إلى الثاني عشر، وتتبنى المنحى التعليمي التكاملي القائم على تدريس مواد العلوم والتكنولوجيا والهندسة والرياضيات بصورة تكاملية.
ويعرف هذا المنحى عالميا باسم “STEM Education”، ويتمحور حول دراسة المواد الأربع في سياقات وأطر منهجية يتم تصميمها لهذا النوع من التعليم، دون الحاجة لتدريسها بشكل مستقل عن بعضها البعض في مواد منفصلة، مما ينتج عنه عمق في المعرفة والفهم، وحداثة وإبداع في التصميم والابتكار.
جدير بالذكر أن الدراسة قد بدأت لأول مرة بمدرسة قطر للعلوم والتكنولوجيا في مطلع العام الأكاديمي الحالي 2018 2019 ، وذلك بالتحاق 60 طالبا قطريا بالصف التاسع.
