Qatar capable of defending itself: Al Attiyah

Doha: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs H E Dr. Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah has affirmed that Qatar is an economically strong country and has its role and weight in the world economy with huge resources of oil and gas, but he noted that attention to the defence dimension is an insurance policy, stressing that Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani seeks to support and strengthen Qatar’s defence capabilities and stability of the region.

Speaking in a discussion session yesterday at the Forum on ‘Returning Foreign Fighters’, H E Dr Al Attiyah said that Qatar has allies but has never thought of defending it, as it is capable of defending itself, this is its philosophy and its military doctrine.

On the role of technology in war and combating terrorism, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs stressed the importance of this issue, noting that all the equipment and systems that Qatar buys are modern and advanced, including means and systems of cyber defence, adding that Qatar is doubling its efforts to build its defence capabilities to be ready at any time.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence affairs stressed that “the State of Qatar does not care about any threats and from which side it come, but always sees itself, prepares its people, develops its plans and strategies, and works to be ready, whatever the size and type of threat and from any side comes.

On Qatar’s accusation of terrorism, he said: “We have faced violent and strange attacks from some countries that started this imaginary charge of terrorism in a desperate attempt to offend Qatar on the international scene, stressing that the State of Qatar has a vision and goals, and that no one can affect its vision, we must trust in ourselves to achieve the interests of our nation and serve our people.

On how countries deal with their fighters returning from areas of war and conflict, His Excellency stressed that the State of Qatar has contained, provided rehabilitation, education and then integration.

أكد سعادة الدكتور خالد بن محمد العطية نائب رئيس مجلس الوزراء وزير الدولة لشؤون الدفاع، أن قطر دولة قوية اقتصادياً، ولها دورها ووزنها في الاقتصاد العالمي، وموارد ضخمة من النفط والغاز، لكنه نبه إلى أن الاهتمام بالبعد الدفاعي هو بمثابة بوليصة تأمين، مشدداً على أن حضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى، يسعى إلى دعم وتعزيز قدرات قطر الدفاعية واستقرار المنطقة.

وقال سعادته في جلسة حوارية أمس أمام منتدى «عودة المقاتلين الأجانب»: إن لدى قطر حلفاء، لكنها لم تفكر مطلقاً في أن يقوموا بالدفاع عنها؛ لأنها قادرة على الدفاع عن نفسها، وهذه فلسفتها وعقيدتها العسكرية.

وحول دور التكنولوجيا في الحروب ومحاربة الإرهاب، أكد سعادته على أهمية هذه المسألة، وقال إن جميع المعدات والأنظمة التي تشتريها قطر حديثة ومتقدمة، بما في ذلك وسائل وأنظمة الدفاع السيبراني، مؤكداً أن قطر تضاعف من جهودها لبناء قدراتها الدفاعية لتكون جاهزة في أي وقت. وشدد سعادة نائب رئيس مجلس الوزراء وزير الدولة لشؤون الدفاع، على أن «دولة قطر لا يهمها أي تهديدات ومن أي جهة تأتي، بل ترى دائماً نفسها، وتستعد، وتعد شعبها، وتضع خططها واستراتيجياتها، وتعمل لأن تكون جاهزة، مهما كان حجم التهديد ونوعه ومن أي جهة يأتي».

وحول اتهام قطر بالإرهاب، قال سعادته: «لقد واجهنا هجمات عنيفة وغريبة من بعض البلدان، وبدؤوا بهذه التهمة الخيالية حول الإرهاب، في محاولة يائسة منهم للإساءة لقطر على الساحة الدولية»، مؤكداً أن لدى دولة قطر رؤية وأهدافاً، «وأنه لا أحد يستطيع أن يؤثر في رؤيتها، ما يتعين معه أن نثق في أنفسنا لتحقيق مصالح وطننا وخدمة شعبنا».

وحول كيفية تعامل الدول مع مقاتليها العائدين من مناطق الحروب والنزاعات، أكد سعادته أن دولة قطر قامت بالاحتواء، وإعادة التأهيل والتعليم ومن ثم الدمج.;
