Amir, Italian PM witness signing of pacts

ROME: Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Prime Minister of the Italian Republic, Giuseppe Conte, discussed the strong bilateral relations and ways of promoting them in all fields, in light of the distinct friendly ties and growing cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of energy, economy, education, health, culture and investment.

During the working lunch, which was hosted by the Italian Prime Minister at Villa Doria Pamphili in Rome yesterday, the two sides discussed a number of regional and international issues, especially the Gulf crisis and Italy’s stance that calls for resolving the issue through dialogue and diplomatic means. In addition, they reviewed the international efforts, in particular the Italian and Qatari efforts, to help maintain security and stability in Libya. The Italian Prime Minister praised the role of the State of Qatar in this regard.

The working lunch was attended by Their Excellencies members of the official delegation accompanying H H the Amir, and a number of Their Excellencies senior officials from the Italian side. Upon the arrival at Villa Doria Pamphili, H H the Amir was accorded an official reception ceremony.

H H the Amir and Prime Minister of the Italian Republic attended the signing of two cooperation agreements and a number of Memorandums of Understanding between the governments of the two countries, at Villa Doria Pamphili in Rome yesterday.

H H the Amir and the Italian Prime Minister attended the signing of an agreement on scientific and educational cooperation between Qatar University and Sapienza University of Rome, aims at exchanging information, experiences and lecturers, and joint implementation of scientific projects, especially through interaction in joint meetings and courses. The two sides also signed a scientific cooperation agreement between Qatar Foundation and Sapienza University of Rome, aims at consolidating and promoting cooperation in the educational and scientific fields.

The Amir and the Italian Prime Minister also witnessed the signing of a MoU for cooperation in the areas of youth and sports, aims at enhancing communication and active participation of youth, and supporting volunteering and training opportunities; and a MoU in the fields health care services, biomedical research, pharmaceutical products and modern medical equipment.

The two sides also signed a MoU on food security and cooperation in agriculture and agro-food industries, aims at strengthening the protection of plant and animal genetic resources and phytosanitary issues, as well as strengthening research and strategic projects on food security.

The signing ceremonies were attended by members of the official delegation accompanying H H the Amir. From the Italian side, the ceremonies were attended by Their Excellencies senior officials. H H the Amir also paid a visit to the Italian Chamber of Deputies in Rome yesterday. H H the Amir was welcomed upon arrival by President of the Chamber of Deputies Roberto Fico and a number of Their Excellencies the deputies.

H H the Amir reviewed the cooperation relations between the two countries and ways of enhancing them, especially in the area of exchanging expertise in the parliamentary work. Topics related to the sports, health, environment and investment were also discussed during the visit.

H H the Amir also visited the headquarters of the Municipality of Rome in the Italian Republic yesterday afternoon. H H the Amir was greeted upon arrival by the Mayor Virginia Raggi and a number of officials, where they reviewed areas of cooperation between Qatar and Italy and ways of deepening friendship relations, in addition to exchanging views on a number of issues of mutual concern.

H H the Amir left the capital Rome yesterday, after a two-day state visit to Italy. H H the Amir and the accompanying delegation were seen off upon departure from Fiumicino Airport by Minister for Parliamentary Relations and Direct Democracy Riccardo Fraccaro, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Italian Republic Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Al Malki, Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Qatar Pasquale Salzano and members of the Qatari Embassy.

H H the Amir was accompanied by an official delegation. H H the Amir sent cables to President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister of the Italian Republic Giuseppe Conte, expressing deep thanks and appreciation for the hospitality and honour accorded to him and the accompanying delegation during the visit, which allowed meetings with senior Italian officials, and the exchange of views on issues of common concern and means of strengthening and promoting the friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries in various fields for the good and the benefit of the two peoples. H H the Amir wished the President and the Prime Minister the best of health and happiness, and the friendly people of Italy further progress and prosperity.

فقد شهدا التوقيع على اتفاقية للتعاون العلمي والتعليمي بين جامعة قطر وجامعة روما الأولى «سابينزا» تهدف إلى تبادل المعلومات والخبرات والمحاضرين، والتنفيذ المشترك للمشاريع العلمية، لا سيما من خلال التفاعل في الاجتماعات والدورات المشتركة، واتفاقية للتعاون العلمي بين مؤسسة قطر وجامعة روما الأولى «سابينزا» تهدف إلى توطيد وتشجيع التعاون في المجالات التعليمية والعلمية. كما شهدا التوقيع على مذكرة تفاهم للتعاون في مجالي الشباب والرياضة، تهدف إلى تعزيز التواصل والمشاركة الفعالة للشباب ودعم التطوع وفرص التدريب، ومذكرة تفاهم للتعاون في المجال الصحي حول خدمات الرعاية الصحية، والبحوث الطبية الحيوية والمنتجات الصيدلانية والمعدات الطبية الحديثة، ومذكرة تفاهم حول الأمن الغذائي والتعاون في مجال الزراعة والصناعات الغذائية الزراعية، تهدف إلى تعزيز حماية الموارد الوراثية النباتية والحيوانية وقضايا الصحة النباتية، بالإضافة إلى تعزيز البحث والمشاريع الاستراتيجية الخاصة بالأمن الغذائي.

حضر مراسم التوقيع أعضاء الوفد الرسمي المرافق لسمو الأمير. ومن الجانب الإيطالي حضرها عدد من أصحاب السعادة كبار المسؤولين.

غادر حضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى، العاصمة روما مساء أمس، بعد زيارة دولة إلى الجمهورية الإيطالية الصديقة استغرقت يومين. وكان في وداع سموه لدى مغادرته والوفد المرافق بمطار فيموميشينو سعادة السيد ريكاردو فراكارو وزير العلاقات البرلمانية والديمقراطية المباشرة، وسعادة السيد عبدالعزيز بن أحمد المالكي سفير الدولة لدى إيطاليا، وسعادة السيد باسكوالي سالزانو السفير الإيطالي لدى الدولة، والسادة أعضاء السفارة القطرية. رافق سمو الأمير وفد رسمي. وبعث سمو الأمير المفدى برقية إلى كل من فخامة الرئيس سيرجيو متاريلا رئيس الجمهورية الإيطالية ودولة السيد جوسيبي كونتي رئيس الوزراء، أعرب فيهما عن بالغ شكره وتقديره لما قوبل به سموه والوفد المرافق من حفاوة وتكريم خلال الزيارة التي أتاحت الفرصة للقاء كبار المسؤولين الإيطاليين، وتبادل الرأي حول القضايا ذات الاهتمام المشترك، وسبل دعم وتعزيز علاقات الصداقة والتعاون بين البلدين في مختلف المجالات بما فيه خير ومصلحة الشعبين، معرباً سموه عن تمنياته لفخامة الرئيس ودولة رئيس الوزراء بموفور الصحة والسعادة، وللشعب الإيطالي الصديق المزيد من التقدم والرخاء.;
