QRCS micro-enterprises project helps poor families in Gaza

DOHA: Qatar Red Crescent Society’s (QRCS) has provided micro-enterprises to poor families in Gaza to improve their living condition under an income generation project worth around $500,000.

“My ambition is to become a well-known maker of handicraft and art works to support my family after death of my father,” said Tahrir Mosleh (27) as she was given a microenterprise under Qatar Red Crescent Society’s (QRCS) project to improve the living conditions of poor families in the Gaza Strip.

“I’ am planning to open a small bazaar in central Gaza to sell handmade and artistic products, capitalizing on my four-year experience in art, sculpture, and recycling. I hold a bachelor of visual arts education,” Mosleh added.

She explained that QRCS’s new project would help her to support her family in the face of financial difficulties, as well as contribute to seize a good share in the local market, which is largely controlled by imported goods.

Dr Akram Nassar, director of QRCS’s representation office in Gaza, said the project is coordinated with Palestine’s Ministry of Social Development.

“Apart from microenterprises, the project also involves providing food baskets for poor families and installing lighting systems at the houses of low-income patients”.

“Costing around $500,000, it is designed to help the poor people of Gaza, who have been suffering terrible economic conditions since 10 years,” he noted.

A total of 60 entrepreneurial grants were approved, with an average of $3,000 each, depending on the requirements of Gaza’s labor market. A set of criteria was used to select the beneficiaries, including the families with female breadwinners, people with disability, and unemployed graduates.

تقول تحرير بشغف: «سأقوم بفتح بازار صغير في المحافظة الوسطى بقطاع غزة لبيع المشغولات اليدوية والفنية، معتمدة على خبرتي التي اكتسبتها منذ 4 أعوام في مجال الفن والنحت وإعادة التدوير، بعد حصولي على شهادة البكالوريوس في تخصص التربية الفنية»، موضحة أن مشروع الهلال الأحمر القطري الجديد سيساعدها على إعالة أسرتها، خاصة في ظل الظروف الاقتصادية الصعبة التي تمر بها عائلتها، وكذلك إصرارها على أن تساهم في بيع المشغولات اليدوية المحلية بدلاً من اعتماد السوق المحلي على بيع المشغولات المستوردة من خارج فلسطين.

وحول أهمية المشروع الجديد، يشير د. أكرم نصار مدير المكتب التمثيلي للهلال الأحمر القطري في قطاع غزة، إلى أن مشروع تحسين الظروف المعيشية للأسر الفقيرة في قطاع غزة يتم تنفيذه بالتنسيق مع وزارة التنمية الاجتماعية الفلسطينية، وهو يتضمن بالإضافة إلى المشاريع الصغيرة توفير سلات غذائية للأسر الفقيرة، ومشروع الإنارة الآمنة لبيوت عدد من المرضى أصحاب الدخل المحدود. وقد تجاوزت تكلفة المشروع حوالي نصف مليون دولار، والهدف منه هو التخفيف عن العائلات الفقيرة بقطاع غزة، في ظل الظروف الاقتصادية الصعبة التي يعيشها الشعب الفلسطيني منذ أكثر من عشرة أعوام.

ويوضح د. نصار أن الهلال الأحمر القطري اعتمد المشاريع الصغيرة بمتوسط حوالي 3,000 دولار، وبواقع 60 منحة مشروع صغير بناء على احتياجات سوق العمل بغزة، حيث تركزت معايير الاختيار على المستفيدين الأكثر احتياجاً للمنحة، ومنهم على سبيل المثال لا الحصر العائلات التي تعيلها سيدات، والأسر التي لديها شخص من ذوي الإعاقة، والعائلات الفقيرة التي لديها أبناء من الخريجين الذين لم تتح لهم فرص للعمل منذ التخرج.;
