Qatari institutions launch ‘Gaza is Worthy of Life’ campaign

DOHA: The ‘Gaza is Worthy of Life’ campaign was launched yesterday that aims to make contribution towards the development of Gaza strip, and help alleviate the suffering of its people.

The campaign is supervised by the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities. Qatar Red Crescent, Qatar Charity, Education Above All, and the Silatech Foundation are participating in the campaign, which aims to raise QR10m to cover the urgent needs of the people of Gaza in five main fields.

Those five fields are health, education, social welfare, water, and economic empowerment. The campaign will last for two weeks, during which the participating institutions will work on financing and implementing a package of programs aimed at providing assistance to as many people as possible in one or more of the targeted areas.

There will be a particular focus on alleviating the suffering of women, children and the elderly. There will also be economic empowerment programs aimed at helping youth to use their energy productively to escape the vicious cycle of poverty.

The campaign reflects the support of the people of Qatar and their commitment towards fulfilling the humanitarian needs of the people in Gaza, especially in times of need. It also reflects the integration of Qatar’s official and popular roles in carrying out their humanitarian duties, both in terms of urgent relief assistance in times of disasters and crises, or in the implementation of sustainable development projects that promote the chances of peace and stability and fight poverty.

In a press conference held to announce the event, Qatar Red Crescent’s Mohammed Abdullah Al Mohannadi said that the aim of the campaign is to achieve comprehensive long-term development in the Gaza Strip and to change the life of the society in this sector in all possible fields, in order to benefit the lives of citizens in the Gaza Strip in all aspects whether in the overall economy, health or education sectors.

Executive Director of the Qatar Charity’s operations department, Faisal Al Fuhaida, expressed hope that the organisation’s participation yields the desired effects of the campaign. He highlighted that Qatar Charity has been operating in Gaza since the nineties. The past 10 years saw it carry out 1,462 projects in different fields, he added.

Senior Representative of Fundraising Department at Education Above All, Mohammed Jassim Al Naama, said that the mission that the Foundation will carry out from the proceeds of the Gaza is worthy of life campaign will be dedicated to empowering Palestinian youth in the Gaza strip, through the provision of university scholarships, vocational qualification, support schools, universities, and contribute to the advancement of the educational sector as a whole.

Al Naama added that (EAA) Foundation has many projects that it implements in the Gaza strip, including but not limited to the project the dynamic Gaza future launched by the Al Fakhoora programme in 2009, which provided comprehensive scholarships for marginalised youth, with a total of 960 young people and girls until December 2017. He also pointed out that there is a project implemented by Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) which aims to improve the potential of educational institutions that give scientific degrees in the field of technology, leading to higher rates of recruitment of new graduates and expansion of entrepreneurial initiatives, and is expected to benefit about 3,000 young Palestinians.

Silatech’s Mahbooba Majeed Zada stated that the organisation seeks through its participation in the Gaza is worthy of life campaign to strengthen the ongoing development efforts aimed at alleviating the suffering and harsh conditions of the Palestinians in Gaza through economic empowerment of young people to ensure a decent living that contribute to social development. Zada said the organisation has provided more than 12,000 Palestinian females and males youth with jobs that have contributed to providing income to entire families, representing the role of the organisation in providing vocational training, developing the skills required by employers, linking them to practical training opportunities, jobs, and supporting the funding necessary for the establishment of projects that generate income.

Representatives of humanitarian institutions involved in the Gaza is worthy of life campaign urged people in Qatar to interact with the campaign and donate to their various projects in order to revitalise Gaza’s development efforts and help some 2 million people in the sector to provide them with a decent life and to meet their urgent needs. Indicators of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip reveal serious and disturbing challenges facing the population, noting that the poverty rate reaches 65 percent, and that 50 percent of the population of about 2 million people are unemployed, while unemployment among young people and graduates reaches 60 percent, and the per capita income per day only US 2.

In the area of the main needs of the sector, statistics indicate that 7 of 10 Palestinian families depend on humanitarian assistance and that half of Gaza’s population depends on food aid from international institutions. Only 10 percent of the population has access to safe drinking water, and the population suffers shortage of medicines by 45 percent, 58 percent shortage of laboratory supplies, and 4,800 patients in Gaza need daily access to life-saving health services or those that ensure their survival.

انطلقت اليوم، حملة “غزة تستحق الحياة” التي تهدف إلى المساهمة في مواصلة تعزيز الجهود التنموية المخصصة لسكان قطاع غزة، والتخفيف من معاناتهم المعيشية، وسد احتياجاتهم الأساسية في المجالات المختلفة، في ظل الأزمة الإنسانية المتواصلة، وارتفاع معدلات الفقر والبطالة.

وتستهدف الحملة التي تأتي بإشراف من هيئة تنظيم الأعمال الخيرية ومشاركة كل من الهلال الأحمر القطري وقطر الخيرية ومؤسسة التعليم فوق الجميع، ومؤسسة صلتك، جمع تبرعات بقيمة 10 ملايين ريال لتغطية احتياجات عاجلة لأهل غزة في خمس مجالات رئيسة هي : الصحة، والتعليم، والرعاية الاجتماعية، والمياه والإصحاح، والتمكين الاقتصادي.

ومن المقرر أن تعمل المؤسسات المشاركة في الحملة التي تبدأ اليوم وتستغرق أسبوعين، على تمويل وتنفيذ حزمة من البرامج والمشاريع التي تهدف إلى تقديم المساعدة لأكبر عدد ممكن في واحد أو أكثر من المجالات المستهدفة مع إعطاء أهمية خاصة للشرائح الأكثر ضعفا، خصوصا البرامج التي تساهم في تخفيف معاناة النساء والأطفال وكبار السن، بالإضافة إلى برامج التمكين الاقتصادي التي تهدف إلى مساعدة الشباب على استثمار طاقاتهم في العمل والإنتاج، وبما يسهم في خروجهم من دائرة الفقر إلى الاكتفاء الذاتي.

وتعكس الحملة تواصل الدعم الشعبي القطري وحرص أهل قطر على استمرار مساندتهم لإخوانهم في غزة، والوقوف إلى جانبهم، أداء لواجبهم الإنساني والأخلاقي، وتعزيزا لأواصر التعاون المشتركة، لاسيما في أوقات الحاجة، وبما يسهم في تخفيف معاناتهم الإنسانية وتوفير حياة كريمة لهم.

وتؤكد على تكامل الدورين الرسمي والشعبي لدولة قطر في القيام بالواجب الإنساني تجاه الأشقاء والأصدقاء، سواء ما يخص المساعدات الإغاثية العاجلة في أوقات الكوارث والأزمات، أو ما يتعلق بتنفيذ مشاريع تنمية مستدامة تعزز فرص السلام والاستقرار ومحاربة الفقر عبر العالم، مع التركيز على المناطق التي تعاني من ظروف استثنائية، وأهمية المشاركة المجتمعية في مثل هذه الجهود.

وأوضح السيد محمد عبدالله المهندي مدير إدارة الاتصال بالوكالة بالهلال الأحمر القطري، في كلمة خلال المؤتمر الصحفي الذي عقد بمقر هيئة تنظيم الأعمال الخيرية اليوم، للإعلان عن انطلاق الحملة، أن الحملة تأتي بهدف تحقيق تنمية شاملة طويلة الأمد في قطاع غزة، وإحداث تغيير على حياة المجتمع بهذا القطاع في كافة المجالات الممكن التدخل فيها بما يعود بالنفع على حياة المواطن في قطاع غزة بكافة المجالات الاقتصادية والصحية والتعليمية والاجتماعية، فضلا عن النهوض بالبنية التحتية لهذا المجتمع.

من جانبه، أعرب السيد فيصل راشد الفهيدة مساعد الرئيس التنفيذي لقطاع العمليات والشراكات الدولية بقطر الخيرية، عن أمله في أن تكون مشاركة قطر الخيرية بحملة “غزة تستحق الحياة” نموذجا يحتذى به في مجال تنشيط المشاريع التنموية بقطاع غزة وأن تحقق الحملة أهدافها في الإسهام بتغطية الاحتياجات العاجلة في مجالات الصحة والتعليم والرعاية الاجتماعية والمياه والتمكين الاقتصادي.

ولفت إلى أن قطر الخيرية تعمل في قطاع غزة منذ التسعينيات من القرن الماضي ولديها مكتبان تشرف من خلالهما على مشاريعها بشكل مباشر، وتضمن سرعة تدخلها في أوقات الأزمات، وتعاونها مع شركاء العمل الإنساني الدوليين والإقليميين والمحليين، لتنفيذ مشاريع تنموية كبيرة، وقد أثمر هذا الحضور لقطر الخيرية في قطاع غزة في الفترة من 2008 إلى 2018 ( أي خلال 10 سنوات) عن تنفيذ 1462 مشروعا إغاثيا وتنمويا في عدة مجالات، وكفالة أكثر من 15000 شخص ضمن جهود الرعاية الاجتماعية، بقيمة إجمالية تصل إلى أكثر من 662 مليون ريال، وقد بلغ عدد المستفيدين منها أكثر من 7.5 مليون شخص، ومن المشاريع المنفذة 19 مشروعا تعليميا، و24 مشروعا صحيا، و28 مشروعا للبناء وإعادة التأهيل و31 مشروعا إغاثيا، و1250 مشروعا مدرا للدخل، و55 مشروعا موسميا.
