Mopping-up operations in full swing

Rain emergency teams are continuing to work round the clock in order to remove water from all areas and clean roads and tunnels around the country, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has said. “We appreciate your patience and co-operation. Thank you,” it tweeted yesterday.

In a separate tweet, the MME said teams concerned with public hygiene continued with their intensive efforts to lift and remove solid waste from residential areas, clean streets and squares and wash sidewalks, in conjunction with the efforts of the emergency teams to drain out water left behind by the recent rains in different parts of the country.

Meanwhile, today’s weather forecast says strong winds and high seas are expected in offshore areas towards the north.

The wind speed in these areas may go up to 22 knots, with the sea level rising to 7ft.

Inshore, it will be relatively hot during the day and there is a chance of scattered clouds and light rain in some places by the afternoon. Mild conditions are likely by night.

Partly cloudy conditions are also forecast offshore and there is a chance of scattered rain at times, the Qatar Met department has said.

The minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to be 25C in Abu Samra and Al Khor and 34C in Doha, Wakrah and Mesaieed today.

Yesterday, a minimum of 23C was recorded in Ghuwairiyah, while the maximum was 35C in Abu Hamour and other places.

The Doha temperatures ranged from 28C to 33C yesterday.

n Meanwhile, Qatar Foundation yesterday said Education City reopened yesterday following the temporary closure necessitated by the extreme weather experienced in Doha recently.

“However, the Education City Student Center, the Liberal Arts and Sciences Building and Al Shaqab remain closed for the time being,” QF tweeted.

n Consular services will resume normal operations today, the US embassy has said. ACS appointments may be scheduled on the embassy’s website and visa applicants may log into their online visa appointment accounts to see their new appointment date or reschedule at their convenience, the mission tweeted yesterday.

Services at the mission were affected following Saturday’s heavy downpour in Doha.

واصلت فرق طوارئ الأمطار بالبلديات جهودها المتواصلة لسحب تجمعات مياه الأمطار من مختلف المناطق، حيث بلغ إجمالي ما تم سحبه منذ يوم الخميس الماضي وحتى مساء أمس حوالي 215 مليوناً و 274 ألفاً و 541 جالون مياه في 37 ألف و 908 نقلة.

وقال السيد سفر آل شافي رئيس لجنة طوارئ الأمطار بوزارة البلدية والبيئة، إن العمل مستمر ودون توقف لسحب جميع تجمعات المياه في المناطق التابعة للبلديات، وتنفيذ جميع البلاغات، مشيراً إلى تلقي غرفة عمليات البلديات 6946 بلاغاً، تم الاستجابة إليها تباعاً بالسرعة الممكنة.

من جانب آخر تقوم فرق النظافة العامة بالوزارة بأعمال التنظيف والكنس والغسيل وإزالة المخلفات من الأنفاق والشوارع، بعد سحب تجمعات مياه الأمطار، حيث يتم كنس الأتربة والأحجار المتواجدة بالشوارع والأنفاق نتيجة هطول الأمطار.

وأكد السيد سفر آل شافي، أن الأعمال مستمرة لحين سحب تجمعات مياه الأمطار من جميع مناطق الدولة، وتنفيذ جميع بلاغات الأهالي، مشيراً إلى الدور المهم الذي تقوم به كل من هيئة الأشغال العامة، والإدارة العامة للدفاع المدني، ومركز القيادة الوطني، وقوة الأمن الداخلي (لخويا)، وشرطة الفزعة، والإدارة العامة للمرور، وإدارة الأرصاد الجوية، حيث يُوجد تنسيق وتعاون كامل كان له دور في نجاح أعمال سحب المياه بالسرعة المطلوبة.;
