IRU praises efforts of traffic safety in Qatar
الاتحاد الدولي للنقل الطرقي يشيد بإنجازات قطر في مجال السلامة المرورية
DOHA: The International Road Transport Union (IRU) has praised the achievements of the of Qatar in the field of traffic safety.
IRU’s Associate Director, Patrick Philip, said in a speech yesterday at the opening session of the 8th annual seminar and workshop on reducing road traffic accidents that Qatar has shown a strong commitment to the goals of sustainable development of the United Nations 2030, lauding the country’s traffic safety achievements, which he said made it a leader in the region.
He stressed that IRU is committed to working with the competent authorities in Qatar to achieve the goals set by the traffic strategy for the coming years and to build a safe and sustainable traffic system that promotes economic growth and sustainable development.
He noted that traffic accidents cause 1.2 million deaths annually, with developing countries having the highest mortality rates. He stressed the need to focus on the human factor in traffic accidents, He pointed out that this year’s conference focuses in its meetings on this factor to reach safer ways.
The 8th annual seminar and workshop on reducing road traffic accidents began yesterday. It is organised by Karwa in cooperation with the IRU, in partnership with the General Directorate of Traffic and the National Traffic Safety Committee.
Mowasalat Chairman Nasser bin Mohammed Al Malki said that the company is committed to the highest levels of service, in addition to spreading the culture of traffic safety. He stressed the importance of focusing on the transport industry, especially that the transportation system is the main engine of new investments and the heart of economic growth and social development.

أشاد الاتحاد الدولي للنقل الطرقي بالإنجازات التي حققتها دولة قطر في مجال السلامة المرورية بفضل دعم القيادة العليا في الدولة للخطط الاستراتيجية وتبني منظومة شاملة للسلامة على الطرق.
وقال السيد باتريك فيليب مدير الاتحاد الدولي للنقل الطرقي، في كلمة له اليوم خلال الجلسة الافتتاحية لمؤتمر وورشة العمل الوطنية حول الإجراءات الفعالة لمنع وقوع حوادث الطرق والحد منها ، إن دولة قطر أبدت التزاما كبيرا بأهداف التنمية المستدامة الأممية 2030 وحققت إنجازات كبيرة على المستوى المتعلق بالسلامة المرورية مما جعلها دولة رائدة على مستوى المنطقة ونموذجا عالميا على هذا الصعيد.
وأكد أن الاتحاد ملتزم بالعمل مع الجهات المختصة في دولة قطر لتحقيق الأهداف التي حددتها الاستراتيجية المرورية للسنوات المقبلة وبناء نظام مروري آمن ومستدام يعزز النمو الاقتصادي والتنمية المستدامة.
وأشار إلى أن السلامة على الطرق هي المحور الرئيسي لجهود الاتحاد الدولي للنقل الطرقي باعتبارها من أساسيات النمو الاقتصادي والازدهار المجتمعي ومقوم للحياة الكريمة لجميع الشعوب.
وأوضح السيد باتريك فيليب أن حوادث المرور تتسبب في مصرع 1.2 مليون شخص سنويا، وتسجل الدول النامية أعلى المعدلات في الوفيات، لاسيما بين الأشخاص الذين تتراوح أعمارهم بين 15 و29 سنة وهو ما يتطلب بذل جهود أكبر للحد من الضحايا.. مضيفا أن “هناك إجماعا عالميا على ضرورة العمل للحد من هذه المأساة العالمية”.
وشدد على ضرورة التركيز على دور العامل البشري في حوادث المرور.. مشيرا إلى أن هذا المؤتمر يركز في جلساته على مدى يومين على هذا العامل للوصول إلى طرق أكثر أمنا.
