Doha peace deal strengthens security: Sudan FM

DOHA: Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Dardari Mohammed Ahmed has affirmed that the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) contributed to the strengthening of security and peace in his country.

In a speech before the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs said that the Doha peace document had made remarkable achievements on the ground in Darfur, QNA reported. It also resulted in the armed movements’ bias towards a peaceful settlement and their participation in the national reconciliation government.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs added that the Doha peace document recorded another success story, moving from peacekeeping to recovery, reconstruction, development and community reconciliation.

At the same time, he hoped that the United Nations and donors would participate in the forthcoming pledging conference to support stability and fund recovery, reconstruction, development and peace building programmes in Darfur in preparation for UNAMID’s exit in 2020.

In his speech, the Sudanese Foreign Minister referred to his country’s efforts in the areas of comprehensive peace internally, regionally and internationally, and the initiatives it has put forward to bring peace to the countries of Southern Sudan, Central Africa, Somalia and Libya, stressing the renunciation of violence and conflict and the adoption of peaceful solutions in the Horn of Africa.

He reiterated his country’s firm stance on the Palestinian issue condemning all forms of attacks on religious sanctities in Palestine, especially Jerusalem. He affirmed his country’s support for the Arab peace initiative to establish a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital, and withdrawal from the occupied Arab territories.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed Khartoum’s condemnation of the gross human rights violations against the Rohingya minority in Myanmar, including killing, demolishing houses and mosques and forcing thousands to flee their villages. He called on the international community to take practical steps to stop these violations and hold those responsible accountable.

On the situation in Yemen and Syria, the Sudanese Foreign Minister renewed his country’s positions in favour of peaceful solutions and support of all international efforts to overcome the crisis in both countries and to seek the success of all initiatives to achieve security and stability in the region.

وقال الدرديري، في كلمة له أمام أعمال الدورة الـ 73 للجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة بنيويورك أمس، إن وثيقة سلام الدوحة حققت إنجازات على أرض الواقع في دارفور، كما أثمرت عن انحياز الحركات المسلحة للتسوية السلمية ومشاركتها في حكومة الوفاق الوطني التي جاءت نتاجاً لمخرجات الحوار الوطني.

وأضاف أن وثيقة سلام الدوحة سجلت قصة نجاح أخرى بالانتقال من حفظ السلام إلى التعافي وإعادة الإعمار والتنمية والتصالح المجتمعي، معرباً في الوقت نفسه عن أمله في مشاركة الأمم المتحدة والمانحين في مؤتمر التعهدات المتوقع انعقاده قريباً لدعم الاستقرار، وتمويل مشروعات التعافي، وإعادة الإعمار والتنمية، وبرامج بناء السلام واستدامته في دارفور، تمهيداً لخروج بعثة اليوناميد في عام 2020.

وأشار وزير الخارجية السوداني -في كلمته- إلى جهود بلاده في مجالات إحلال السلام الشامل داخلياً، وعلى الصعيدين الإقليمي والدولي، والمبادرات التي طرحتها لإحلال السلام في دول جنوب السودان، وإفريقيا الوسطي، والصومال، وليبيا، مشدداً على نبذ العنف والاحتراب، وتغليب الحلول السلمية في منطقة القرن الإفريقي.

وجدد مواقف بلاده الثابتة من القضية الفلسطينية بإدانة جميع أشكال الاعتداءات على المقدسات الدينية في فلسطين، وعلى رأسها القدس الشريف، مؤكداً دعم بلاده مبادرة السلام العربية لإنشاء دولة فلسطينية على حدود عام 1967، عاصمتها القدس الشريف، والانسحاب من الأراضي العربية المحتلة. وأكد إدانة الخرطوم الانتهاكات الصارخة لحقوق الإنسان ضد أقلية الروهينجا في ميانمار، والمتمثلة في القتل، وهدم المنازل والمساجد، وإجبار الآلاف على الفرار من قراهم، داعياً المجتمع الدولي إلى اتخاذ خطوات عملية لوقف تلك الانتهاكات ومحاسبة مرتكبيها.;
