DIFI takes holistic approach to preserve Arab family unit

DOHA: The Doha International Family Institute (DIFI), member of Qatar Foundation (QF), is working towards preserving and strengthening Arab families in the region by implementing best practices and hosting events that aim to raise awareness of the challenges facing families.

DIFI’s upcoming International Conference, to be held from October 23-24 at the Qatar National Convention Centre, is one such event. Designed to bring together key stakeholders, including policy makers, practitioners, researchers, and academics from civil society organizations, the event aims to examine the most pressing challenges that threaten the family unit and how, collectively, these circumstances can be mitigated.

‘Parenting, Child Wellbeing and Development’ will be the theme of this year’s international gathering, where the crucial role of parents in ensuring the optimal well-being of children will be underscored.

Delegates will touch on a number of topics, including parenting matters; supporting working parents; parenting in humanitarian contexts; parent conflict and absence; parenting in the digital era: opportunities and challenges; investing in parenting education programs; parenting children living with disabilities; parenting children with behavioral problems; and parenting across the Arab region.

In conjunction with platforms that bring together civil society experts, research on the Arab family unit is key to formulating effective approaches to addressing the various challenges they face.

The OSRA Research Grant, a collaboration with the Qatar National Research Fund – a member of QF, aims to encourage basic and applied research aimed at developing a knowledge base on Arab families, including comparative and policy-oriented research.

Through the grant, DIFI supports high-quality empirical work that advances research on Arab families; provides policymakers with evidence-based research and analysis that encourages the formation or modification of family-related policies; and facilitates research in areas that support the Qatar National Research Strategy.

Meanwhile, DIFI has initiated a number of projects to assess the Arab family. The Family Focused Social Protection project works to strengthen the social protection of families in the region, and the ‘Child Well-being in the Gulf Countries’ commissioned report offers a systematic review of child well-being.

As DIFI continues to champion the preservation of the Arab family unit through international gatherings, ongoing reports, and extensive research, families in the region are receiving the support needed to face challenging situations.

يبذل معهد الدوحة الدولي للأسرة -عضو مؤسسة قطر- جهوداً حثيثة للحفاظ على الأسرة العربية، وتعزيز بنيتها وتماسكها، من خلال تطبيق أفضل الممارسات الأسرية السائدة في المنطقة، ورعاية الفعاليات التي تسعى إلى التوعية بالتحديات التي تواجه الأسر في المنطقة.

ومن بين هذه الفعاليات، المؤتمر الدولي الذي يعقده المعهد يومي 23 و24 أكتوبر الحالي في مركز قطر الوطني للمؤتمرات في الدوحة، ومن المقرر أن يحضره حشد من الجهات الرئيسية المعنية، بمن فيهم صانعو السياسة والخبراء والباحثون والأكاديميون العاملون في منظمات المجتمع المدني، لإجراء نقاشات متعمقة حول التحديات الملحّة التي تهدد وحدة وتماسك الأسرة والسبل الكفيلة بالتصدي لها. وينعقد المؤتمر هذا العام تحت شعار «التربية الوالدية ورفاه الطفل والتنمية»؛ حيث سيتم تسليط الضوء على الدور المحوري للأبوين في ضمان نمو الطفل على النحو الأمثل. ويناقش المشاركون موضوعات متعددة، منها أهمية التربية الوالدية، ودعم الوالدين العاملين، والتربية الوالدية في الأوضاع الإنسانية، والنزاع الأسري وغياب الوالدين، والتربية الوالدية في العصر الحديث: الفرص والتحديات، والاستثمار في برامج التربية الوالدية، والتربية الوالدية للأطفال ذوي الإعاقة، والتربية الوالدية للأطفال الذين يعانون من مشاكل سلوكية، والتربية الوالدية في المنطقة العربية. ويتعاون معهد الدوحة الدولي للأسرة مع عدد من المنصات المتخصصة في استقطاب الباحثين من أوساط المجتمع المدني، لإجراء بحوث تتمحور حول الأسرة العربية، لأهميتها في صياغة مقاربات فعالة في التصدي للتحديات المختلفة التي تواجهها الأسرة العربية. وتستهدف منحة «أسرة» البحثية، التي تبحث في شؤون الأسرة العربية والقضايا المتصلة بسياسات الأسرة، بالتعاون مع الصندوق القطري لرعاية البحث العلمي -عضو مؤسسة قطر- وتشجيع إجراء البحوث الأساسية والتطبيقية لتطوير قاعدة المعارف الخاصة بالأسر العربية، بما في ذلك البحوث المقارنة وتلك التي تتمحور حول السياسات.;
