CRA celebrates World Postal Day

To commemorate World Postal Day, the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) has invited international and local stakeholders for high-level discussions on the development of the postal sector in Qatar.

The World Postal Day Forum 2018, being organised by the CRA at Four Seasons Hotel Doha today, aims to enhance effective collaboration between international regulators and industry players.

The forum, held under the patronage of HE the Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti, will see the active participation of international experts and speakers, the CRA said in a statement.

Through panel discussions and presentations, participants will present their experience in the field of regulating the postal sector and consumer protection.

“The CRA is mandated to regulate the postal sector. By organising events such as the World Postal Day Forum, we intend to have an open and continuous dialogue with the different levels of stakeholders in the market to better understand their concerns, challenges and views,” said CRA president Mohamed Ali al-Mannai. “The CRA will develop effective regulatory frameworks that would provide direct benefits to the consumers, as well create a level playing field for the industry players.”

The panel of speakers at the forum includes Hashim ElHaj from the Universal Postal Union (UPU), Dr Soud al-Shuaili from the Oman Ministry of Transport & Communication, Alia Jandal from the Oman Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, Dr Worlfgang Feiel from the Austrian Regulatory Authority for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, and Q-Post’s Kevin Ray and Salim Omar.

A key part of the forum is a mini-exhibition of postal and courier services available to residents of Qatar by a private companies.

World Postal Day is celebrated on October 9 each year on the anniversary of the UPU, which was established in 1874 in Switzerland.

بمناسبة اليوم العالمي للبريد، وبحضور سعادة السيد جاسم بن سيف السليطي وزير المواصلات والاتصالات، تنظم هيئة تنظيم الاتصالات منتدى اليوم العالمي للبريد 2018، وذلك اليوم الثلاثاء بفندق «فور سيزونز الدوحة»، بحضور أصحاب المصلحة على المستوين المحلي والعالمي، لإجراء مناقشات رفيعة المستوى حول تطوير قطاع البريد في دولة قطر، وذلك بهدف تعزيز التعاون الفعّال بين الجهات التنظيمية حول العالم وبين الرائدين في المجال.

وفي هذا السياق، قال سعادة السيد محمد علي المناعي رئيس الهيئة: «يُعدّ تنظيم قطاع البريد إحدى صلاحيات هيئة تنظيم الاتصالات. ومن هنا، تسعى الهيئة بشكل مستمر إلى التواصل بانفتاح مع أصحاب المصلحة في السوق، للتعرف أكثر على آرائهم، بالإضافة إلى التعرف على القضايا والتحديات التي تواجههم، وذلك من خلال تنظيم فعاليات مثل منتدى اليوم العالمي للبريد 2018، كما ستعمل الهيئة على تطوير أطر تنظيمية فعّالة من شأنها تحقيق الفائدة للمستهلكين بشكل مباشر، بالإضافة إلى توفير سوق عادل».

سيشارك في المنتدى متحدثون وخبراء دوليون، وسيستعرض المشاركون من خلال الجلسات النقاشية والعروض التقديمية تجربتهم في مجال تنظيم قطاع البريد، بالإضافة إلى مناقشة قضايا متعلقة بحماية المستهلك. هذا، وسيشارك في الجلسات النقاشية كل من السيد هاشم الحاج من الاتحاد البريدي العالمي، والدكتور سعود الشعيلي من وزارة النقل والاتصالات العُمانية، والسيدة علياء جندل من هيئة تنظيم الاتصالات العُمانية، والدكتور فولفغانغ فايل من الهيئة التنظيمية النمساوية للإذاعة والاتصالات، والسيد كيفن راي من «بريد قطر»، والسيد سليم عمر من «بريد قطر»، وآخرون.;
