Amir arrives in Ecuador on two-day visit

DOHA: Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani arrived yesterday in the capital city of Quito, on a two-day state visit to the Republic of Ecuador.

H H the Amir was greeted upon arrival at Mariscal Sucre Presidential Airport by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility of Ecuador Jose Valencia, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Ecuador Mohammed Ali Al Malki, Ambassador of Ecuador to the State of Qatar Yvonne Laila Khoies Aboul Baki, and members of the Qatari Embassy in Quito.

H H the Amir is accompanied by an official delegation. H H the Amir began his Latin American tour from the Republic of Ecuador, which will be followed by tours to the Republic of Peru, the Republic of Paraguay and the Argentine Republic.

During the visits, H H the Amir will hold talks on ways of promoting the bilateral relations and cooperation in all fields, as well as the latest regional and international developments on mutual interest.

Ambassador of Qatar to Ecuador Mohammed Ali Al Malki said the visit of H H the Amir to Ecuador is an important step for the relations between two countries. “The Republic of Ecuador was waiting for this visit of H H the Amir.”

He said that Ecuador has a large role in the political and economic fields, so both countries are looking forward to this visit and it will be a turning point in bilateral relations,” the Ambassador said while talking to Qatar TV.

Replying to a question about the economic relations, the Ambassador said: “There are trade relations between the two countries and during this of H H the Amir there will be discussions on in areas of investment.”

He noted that Ecuador is a promising country for investment. “It is one of the emerging economies in Latin America. The steps that can be taken in this regard are very large but we can not talk specifically about some issues on which both countries are set to cooperate because there are agreements that can be signed in this field.”

Regarding level of mutual understanding on political issues between two countries, the Ambassador said that both countries enjoyed consensus on number of political issues. “The Ecuador position on the siege of Qatar is positive. Despite attempts from the siege countries to change Ecuador’s stance, Ecuador government did not give attention to that calls and affirmed that its position is permanent based on principles.”

Regarding prospects of cooperation cultural field, the Ambassador said that there is a good development in the cultural relations between the two countries as in near future there will be an Ecuadorian cultural week in Qatar and this week will be a great indication of the relationship between the two countries.

“There are also agreements in the field of culture which will be signed during this visit of H H the Amir which indicates the interest of officials of both sides on sports and youth in general and also in the field of culture.”

The President of National Assembly of the Republic of Ecuador, Dr Jose Serrano Salgado, expressed concern over the blockade imposed on Qatar by the neighbouring countries during his meeting with Qatar’s former Ambassador to Ecuador, Hassan bin Ibrahim Al Malki in June 2017.

During the meeting, Dr Salgado expressed his deep concern regarding the siege on the State of Qatar by certain countries, in an attempt to change its foreign policies. He also confirmed his country’s growing ties of friendship with Qatar under the international agreements and provisions issued by many parties such as the United Nations and the Union of South American Nations.

Speaking to Qatar TV, Dr. Abdullah Al Khater, CEO of Al Amal Investment Company said that Qatar is capable to enhance relations between Arab region with Latin America which became necessary amid news that Ecuador is going to increase LNG production.

Al Khater was talking in a talk show of Qatar TV, ‘Jalsatul Amal’ (business session). He said that the economic relations between the regions including Qatar and Latin America is in the beginning stage so the ways should be discussed to boost the relations in a big way.

“There are many common interests and stances on many political and economic issues between Arab region and Latin America,” said Al Khater, adding that Latin America supported issues
of the region and those related to Qatar.
