MME removes abandoned dhows, motorboats from ports

DOHA: The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), represented by the General Cleanliness Department, has removed a total of 18 abandoned dhows and motorboats from Al Khor and Al Wakrah Ports.

“Under a ten-day campaign, which concluded yesterday, nine dhows and a motorboats were removed from Al Khor Port and five dhows and three motorboats from Al Wakrah Port,” said Safar Al Shafi, (below) Director of General Cleanliness Department.

He said that the campaign aimed at maintaining necessary hygiene at public places, safeguarding the boats in operation and ensuring good look for Qatari ports, as the boats were there for a long time.

He said that abandoned dhows and motorboats had been taken to the designated place where they would be kept for a certain period. “If the boat owners do not approach the department to claim the boats, the erring boats will be got rid finally as per the rules and regulations,” said Al Shafi.

He said that the Ministry of Municipality and Environment had attached great importance to maintain hygiene at beaches and ports across the country and designed special programme to serve the purpose.

“General Cleanliness Department regularly launches campaigns to remove abandoned boats because they occupy a big area and caused visual pollution,” said Safar Al Shafi adding that those boats were also hindering the movements of other boats in operation at the ports and endangering the navigation and marine environment in case of sinking.

Safar Al Shafi has urged boat owners to comply with the rules in maintaining hygiene at ports by rectifying the status of their boats to avoid removal and other legal actions.

اختتمت وزارة البلدية والبيئة ممثلة بإدارة النظافة العامة الحملة الشاملة لإزالة السفن الخشبية المهملة (السنابيك) والمتروكة لفترة طويلة في موانئ الدولة، والتي تم خلالها إزالة 18 سنبوكاً وطراداً مهملاً من ميناءي الخور والوكرة.

وذكر السيد سفر مبارك آل شافي مدير الإدارة بأن الحملة استمرت 10 أيام متواصلة ، تم خلالها إزالة (9) سنابيك مهملة و (1) طراد من ميناء الخور ، وإزالة ( 5 ) سنابيك و(3) طرادات مهملة من ميناء الوكرة وأوضح بأنه تم نقل السنابيك والطرادات المهملة إلى الأماكن المخصصة لذلك ، حيث سيتم التحفظ عليها لمدة معينة ، وفي حال عدم مراجعة أصحابها لإدارة النظافة العامة، سيتم التخلص منها نهائياً وفقاً للإجراءات والأنظمة المعمول بها في هذا الشأن .

وأكد بأن نظافة الشواطئ والموانئ تحظى باهتمام كبير من الوزارة، ويتم إعداد برامج خاصة لها بالإضافة إلى تنفيذ حملات إزالة المراكب والطرادات المهملة من وقت إلى آخر لتأثيرها على المنظر العام وإعاقتها لحركة السفن بالميناء وشغلها مساحة كبيرة في الموانئ، ناهيك عن أضرارها على البيئة البحرية في حالة غرقها. وناشد جميع أصحاب المراكب الخشبية الالتزام بالنظافة العامة للموانئ وتصحيح أوضاع المراكب المخالفة لتفادي إجراءات الإزالة وتطبيق الإجراءات القانونية. وجاء تنفيذ هذه الحملة بهدف الحفاظ على النظافة العامة وسلامة السفن العاملة والمنظر العام بالموانئ القطرية .
