Maintenance centre of a car company closed

DOHA: The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has announced the closure of a maintenance centre, in the industrial zone, of one of the car companies for a week after the failure of the company to notify the relevant authorities in the Ministry about the calling of a certain model of its vehicles because of a manufacturing defect, which is considered to be a risk to consumers’ safety.

The Ministry said in a statement that the issue of the closure of the maintenance centre had been released for one week for violating one of the articles of the Consumer Protection Law, which says that: “ Once the supplier finds a defect in the goods or service, it should notify the competent authority of the Ministry and the consumer of the potential damages, and how to prevent them and to withdraw the defective goods from the market immediately, and to announce this in accordance with the executive regulations of this law. “

According to the Consumer Protection Law, the administrative closure announcement will be posted on the Ministry’s website and in two daily newspapers at the expense of the violating company.

These measures, which are carried out by MEC, are part of the ongoing review and follow-up by the international call centres to ensure compliance of car dealers with the follow-up and repair of vehicle defects.

It is worth mentioning that MEC is continuously monitoring to ascertain the extent of commitment and compliance of car dealers to follow up the defects of vehicles and fix them to protect the rights of consumers, and in coordination with the agent of the company to follow up the maintenance and repair and communicate with customers to ensure the implementation of procedures and fixing defects in cars.

The Ministry stressed that it will firmly confront all those who are negligent in carrying out their obligations under the Consumer Protection Law and its executive regulations. They will intensify their inspection campaigns to control such practices. Any violation of laws and ministerial decisions will be referred to the competent authorities for appropriate action against them.

The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has urged all consumers to report any irregularities through their communication channels.

أعلنت وزارة الاقتصاد والتجارة عن إغلاق مركز صيانة تابع لإحدى شركات السيارات المعروفة، الكائن في المنطقة الصناعية، لمدة أسبوع واحد، إثر تخلّفها عن إخطار الجهات المعنية في وزارة الاقتصاد والتجارة بقيام المصنع باستدعاء طراز معين من مركباته لوجود خلل مصنعي، الأمر الذي قد يشكّل خطورة على سلامة المستهلكين.

ويأتي ذلك في إطار المراجعة والمتابعة المستمرة من قبل الوزارة لمواقع الاستدعاء العالمية؛ للتأكد من مدى التزام وتقيّد وكلاء السيارات بمتابعة عيوب السيارات وتصحيحها.

وقد حُرّرت مخالفة للشركة وأُغلقت لمدة أسبوع واحد، وذلك لمخالفتها المادة رقم (14) من القانون رقم (8) لسنة 2008 بشأن حماية المستهلك، والذي ينص على: «يلتزم المزود فور اكتشافه عيباً في السلعة أو الخدمة من شأنه الإضرار بالمستهلك لدى استعمال السلعة أو الانتفاع بالخدمة، أن يبلغ الجهة المختصة بالوزارة والمستهلك بالأضرار المحتملة، وكيفية الوقاية منها، وبسحب السلع المعيبة من السوق فوراً، والإعلان عن ذلك وفقاً لما تحدده اللائحة التنفيذية لهذا القانون».

ويُنشر إعلان الإغلاق الإداري على نفقة الشركة المخالفة وفقاً للمادة رقم (18) مكرر من القانون رقم (8) بشأن حماية المستهلك، والتي تنص على أن «يُنشر هذا القرار على الموقع الإلكتروني للوزارة وفي صحيفتين يوميتين على نفقة الشركة المخالفة».;
