Primary Health Care Corporation Officially Introduces Cupping Therapy

Doha: Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has introduced the cupping therapy service to improve patients’ health, speed up recovery process and ensure patients’ safety.

PHCC said such a therapeutic program is implemented by a host of physicians trained in cupping technology after it is allocated based on the needs of each patient separately.

Regarding the method for accessing this therapeutic service, PHCC outlined that it can be obtained through family physician who simply transfers the appropriate cases based on approved standards.

In addition, patients who are included in this program are primarily those diagnosed with chronic headache due to unknown causes, refractory migraine, carpal tunnel syndrome without indication for surgical intervention, muscle imbalance and postural dysfunction, refractory muscle spasms, neck and upper or lower back pain, chronic diseases such as eczema and asthma and skin diseases like acne.
Cupping therapy was launched last February as a pilot phase at Umm Slal Health Center to be eventually expanded in some health centers during the upcoming period, PHCC outlined, pointing out that such a step is intended to achieve its vision in providing a comprehensive and integrated health service by focusing on individuals, in addition to working steadfastly to meet all patients needs based on the highest global standards.

It noted that cupping therapy is an alternative medicine and one form of traditional medicines that has been practiced since ancient times and it is being used in several parts of the world, including China and Middle East to promote health, prevention and treatment, as well as being a tranquilizer for chronic pain through using wet cupping.

The corporation pointed out that cure through cupping is consistent with Islamic Sharia law and it was mentioned in many Islamic prophetic Hadiths, in addition to other advantages that include improvement of blood flow and reduction of toxics buildup in human body, heading off pain and headache, strengthening the nervous system and increasing the scope of movement and flexibility.

PHCC indicated that cupping therapy leaves interim traces on skin, along with side effects associated with bruises and skin itching and patients eventually recover and return to normal condition during 7 to 10 days followed by persistent skin color change.

Cupping therapy is a safe procedure, but it is not suitable for all people, PHCC said, explaining that pregnant women and patients with acute hepatitis, tuberculosis, heart disease, arrhythmia, pacemaker implantation, blood clotting diseases such as hereditary haemorrhagic disease, use of anticoagulants, severe anemia, and kidney failure are not allowed to use this kind of therapy.

الدوحة: أعلنت مؤسسة الرعاية الصحية عن إضافة خدمة العلاج بالحجامة؛ بهدف تحسين صحة المرضى وتعزيز عملية الشفاء، وضمان سلامة المرضى.

وأفادت المؤسسة بأن هذا البرنامج العلاجي يتم تنفيذه بواسطة مجموعة من الأطباء المدربين في تقنية الحجامة، بعد أن يتم تخصيصه حسب احتياجات كل مريض على حدة.

وعن كيفية الحصول على هذه الخدمة العلاجية، أوضحت بأنه يمكن الحصول على الخدمة من خلال طبيب الأسرة الذي يقوم بتحويل الحالات المناسبة وفقا للمعايير المعتمدة، بالإشارة إلى أن الفئة المرضية التي يتم شمولها ممن يتم تشخيصهم بحالات مثل الصداع المزمن ذي الأسباب غير المعروفة، والصداع النصفي المقاوم للعلاج، ومتلازمة الألم الرسغي دون وجود مؤشر للتدخل الجراحي، والألم العضلي المحدود الموضعي أو التشنج العضلي الذي لا يستجيب للمسكنات البسيطة، وآلام الرقبة والظهر العلوي أو السفلي، والأمراض المزمنة مثل الأكزيما والربو، وأمراض الجلد مثل حب الشباب.

وأوضحت أن خدمة العلاج بالحجامة تم تدشينها في فبراير الماضي كمرحلة تجريبية في مركز أم صلال الصحي، ليتم التوسع فيها تدريجيا في بعض المراكز الصحية خلال الفترات القادمة، لافتة إلى أن الهدف من هذه الخطوة يكمن بتحقيق رؤية المؤسسة في تقديم رعاية صحية شاملة ومتكاملة ومتمحورة حول الفرد، إضافة إلى العمل الدؤوب على تلبية كافة احتياجات المراجعين وفقا لأعلى معايير الجودة العالمية.

ونوهت بأن الحجامة تعتبر من الطب البديل، وشكلا من أشكال الطب التقليدي الذي يمارس منذ القدم، إذ تستخدم في عدة أجزاء من العالم بما في ذلك الصين والشرق الأوسط، بهدف تعزيز الصحة، والوقاية، والعلاج، وتخفيف الألم المزمن باستخدام نوع من الحجامة يعرف بالحجامة المبللة.

وأشارت إلى أن التداوي بالحجامة من الأمور المستحبة شرعا، وخاصة أنه قد ورد فضل التداوي فيها عبر أحاديث كثيرة عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، فضلا عن وجود فوائد كثيرة تشمل تحسين تدفق الدم، وتقليل تراكم السموم في الجسم، وتخفيف الألم والصداع، وتقوية الجهاز العصبي، والمساهمة في زيادة نطاق الحركة والمرونة، وتخفيف الألم العضلي الموضعي والتشنج العضلي، بما في ذلك آلام الرقبة وأعلى الظهر أو أسفله، وغيرها من الفوائد الأخرى.

ولفتت المؤسسة إلى أن الحجامة تترك علامات مؤقتة على الجلد، وآثار جانبية أساسية ترتبط بالكدمات وتهيج الجلد الذي ينبغي أن يشفى ويعود إلى حالته الطبيعية خلال (7الى 10 أيام)، مع استمرار تغيير لون الجلد وحدوث ندوب لبعض الوقت.

وأكدت أن الحجامة عملية آمنة، ولكنها ليست مناسبة للجميع، ولا يجوز استخدام الحجامة للنساء الحوامل وللمرضى الذين يعانون من العدوى الالتهابية مثل:( التهاب الكبد الحاد والسل وأمراض القلب وعدم انتظام ضربات القلب وزرع جهاز تنظيم ضربات القلب وأمراض تخثر الدم مثل مرض النزف الوراثي واستعمال أدوية مضادة لتخثر الدم وفقر الدم الشديد والفشل الكلوي).
