QNL Offers Multifaceted Experience of Art, Technology, Heritage, Wellness in May

Doha: Qatar National Library (QNL) will offer an exciting lineup of events for the month of May, aimed at offering visitors engaging learning opportunities across a range of topics such as technology, heritage, and arts. The Library’s schedule features an array of events, including workshops, lectures, exhibitions, and performances for visitors to explore diverse subjects, learn new skills, and immerse themselves in culture and entertainment.

On 2 May, the Library invites visitors to attend a presentation on how the QNL mobile application can help members access the Library’s collections and services. Presentations will be given in English and Arabic.
On 4 May, the Library will host the “Mommy to Be: The Speaker Series.” The lecture will be presented by Dr. Sami Omar, Attending Physician in Women’s Psychiatry at Sidra Hospital, who will discuss the common symptoms of depression during pregnancy, postpartum depression and how to take care of your mental health.

On 10 May, the Library will host a series of inspiring and empowering workshops designed to help you embrace your inner self. Attendees will be expected to come along with a beginner’s mindset, enjoy discovering their authentic selves, and be ready for personal and professional development topics.

On the same day, Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra will be back at the Library where they will perform “Strings of Romance in Tchaikovsky and Borodin’s Chamber Music Masterpieces”.

Later on in the month, the Library invites visitors to a calligraphy and illumination workshop that aims to teach participants the art of calligraphy and decorative manuscript illumination. It will provide them with opportunities to develop their skills and inspire them to further creativity and artistic expression. The calligraphy workshops will run from 12-14 May and the illumination workshop from 16-18 May.

On the 75th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba, the Library will host a seminar on 15 May entitled “Archiving as a Human-Knowledge Action to Overcome the Nakba through People”, in collaboration with Khazayn Foundation for Community Archives. The seminar will present a brief overview of the Heritage Library’s diverse and rare collections related to the recorded history of Palestine as well as discuss the importance of archiving through the work of Khazayn Foundation as a community project that starts from people and returns to them.

On 23, 24 and 25 May, in celebration of “Global Accessibility Awareness Day”, the Library’s Assistive Technology Center will be providing a tour to present accessibility features and services of the Library, assistive technology devices, and online resources that let our patrons experience the Library in full.

The Library’s IFLA regional center for the preservation of documentary heritage in the Arab region and the Middle East invites visitors to a lecture on 16 May to learn about the Syrian Design Archive. This is a non-profit documentary project to help archive graphic design elements and visuals including Arabic typography, street signs, stamps and media and preserve them in a digital open archive.

On the occasion of “Mental Health Awareness” month, the Library will host an event on 20 May for visitors to interact with mental health experts from different disciplines – psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, pharmacologists and others – to learn how to deal with different mental health issues. This will be an interactive program with multiple breakout sessions.

Also, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Qatar, the Library will host a panel exhibition in collaboration with the Georgian Embassy from 21 May to 21 June that will look at the history of Arabic manuscripts in Georgia. The exhibition will highlight the Arab manuscript collection preserved in the Georgian National Center of Manuscripts.

On 27 May, the Library invites visitors to celebrate the 97th anniversary of the birth of one of the most noted environmentalists of the 20th century, Rachel Carson. Her book, The Silent Spring, sparked the modern environmental revolution in the United States and elsewhere.

On 29 May, the Library will be hosting the second “Cultural Salon” event a platform that promotes dialogue and communication with subject-matter experts, with the aim of creating a positive atmosphere that enriches culture and raises public awareness. The event will focus on artificial intelligence and more information will be shared closer to the date.

الدوحة: أعلنت مكتبة قطر الوطنية عن تقديم برنامج زاخر بالفعاليات المتنوعة على مدى شهر مايو الجاري، يتضمن العديد من الموضوعات، مثل التكنولوجيا والتراث والفنون.

وستكون بداية هذه الفعاليات، اليوم، بالعرض التقديمي الافتراضي عبر منصة /ميكروسوفت تيمز/ باللغتين العربية والإنجليزية، حول تطبيق المكتبة للأجهزة الذكية / وكيفية استخدامه في الوصول إلى مجموعات المكتبة وخدماتها.

وتستهل المكتبة في الرابع من الشهر الجاري، سلسلة جلسات /أنا وطفلي/ التي يتحدث فيها نخبة من الخبراء والمختصين حول موضوعات وقضايا مهمة في مجالات الأمومة والطفولة وصحة الأطفال الصغار والأمهات، حيث ستستضيف هذه الجلسة الدكتور سامي عمر، طبيب الصحة النفسية في /سدرة للطب/ الذي يتحدث عن أعراض الاكتئاب أثناء الحمل، واكتئاب ما بعد الولادة وكيف تعتني الأم بصحتها النفسية.

كما تنظم في العاشر من مايو، سلسلة من الورش الملهمة والمحفزة التي صممت لمساعدة أفراد المجتمع على فهم ذاتهم وتعزيز مهاراتهم، وفي هذه السلسلة يستكشف المشاركون أنفسهم ويتعرفون على موضوعات وقضايا مختلفة في مجالات التنمية الشخصية والمهنية، وفي ذات اليوم، ستعود الفلهارمونية لعزف ألحانها مجددا في المكتبة مع أوتار الرومانسية في روائع موسيقى الحجرة من تأليف ألكسندر بورودين وتشايكوفسكي.

وستقدم المكتبة سلسلة من الورش العملية حول الخط العربي والزخارف الإسلامية لتعليم المشاركين فن الخط وزخرفة المخطوطات، وتزويدهم بفرص لصقل مهاراتهم، وإلهامهم لمزيد من الإبداع والتعبير الفني، حيث ستقام ورش الزخارف الإسلامية خلال الفترة بين 13 و15 مايو، أما ورش الخط العربي فتقام بين 16 و18 منه.

وبمناسبة الذكرى الخامسة والسبعين للنكبة الفلسطينية، تنظم المكتبة التراثية في 15 مايو ندوة افتراضية بعنوان /75 عاما على النكبة: الأرشفة كأداة لتعزيز الوجود والهوية/، وذلك بالتعاون مع مؤسسة خزائن للأرشيف المجتمعي، وتتضمن نبذة موجزة عما تحتويه من مجموعات نادرة ذات صلة بتاريخ فلسطين المدون، وأهمية الأرشفة من خلال عمل مؤسسة خزائن كمشروع مجتمعي ينطلق من الناس ويعود إليهم.

وسيدعو مركز /الإفلا الإقليمي/ للحفاظ على التراث الوثائقي في الدول العربية والشرق الأوسط، بمكتبة قطر الوطنية يوم 16 مايو، الزائرين إلى محاضرة للتعرف على مشروع الأرشيف السوري للتصميم، وهو مشروع توثيقي يهدف إلى أرشفة عناصر التصميم الرسومي (الجرافيك) والعناصر البصرية وتطورها في أرشيف رقمي يوثق أنواع وأشكال التصميم وتطبيقات الخط العربي بمختلف أشكالها، وينقسم إلى عدة فروع تشمل المطبوعات والوسائط والتلفزيون ولافتات الشوارع والطوابع، كما يهدف إلى إنشاء أرشيف رقمي مرجعي مفتوح للباحثين والطلاب؛ بهدف الحفاظ على التراث التصميمي السوري.

وستقدم المكتبة بمناسبة شهر التوعية بالصحة النفسية يوم 20 مايو، فرصة استثنائية للزائرين والرواد للتواصل والتحاور مع خبراء الصحة النفسية من مختلف التخصصات من الأطباء النفسيين وخبراء علم النفس الإكلينيكي وعلماء الصيدلة وغيرهم لمعرفة سبل التعامل مع مشكلات الصحة النفسية المختلفة، وتتضمن هذه الفعالية عدة جلسات جانبية تناقش كل منها موضوعا بعينه.

واحتفالا بالذكرى الثلاثين لتأسيس العلاقات الثنائية بين جورجيا ودولة قطر، تنظم المكتبة يوم 21 مايو بالتعاون مع السفارة الجورجية بالدوحة، معرضا يسلط الضوء على تاريخ المخطوطات العربية في جورجيا، ومجموعة المخطوطات العربية المحفوظة في المركز الوطني الجورجي للمخطوطات.

أما خلال الفترة من 23 إلى 25 مايو، واحتفالا باليوم العالمي للتوعية بإمكانية الوصول، فينظم مركز التكنولوجيا المساعدة بالمكتبة جولات تعريفية حول الخدمات والبرامج والأجهزة المهيأة لاستخدام الأشخاص من ذوي الإعاقة، وأجهزة التكنولوجيا المساعدة والمصادر الإلكترونية التي تمكن أفراد المجتمع من ذوي الإعاقة من الاستفادة الكاملة من كل ما تقدمه المكتبة.

كما ستدعو المكتبة يوم 27 مايو، الزائرين للاحتفال بالذكرى السابعة والتسعين لميلاد ريتشيل كارسون وهي من أشهر الدعاة إلى حماية البيئة في القرن العشرين، وقد أشعل كتابها (الربيع الصامت) ثورة الحركة الحديثة للحفاظ على البيئة وحمايتها في الولايات المتحدة وأماكن أخرى.

أما يوم 29 مايو، فستنظم المكتبة الجلسة الثانية من سلسلة جلسات “الصالون الثقافي”، وهو منبر للحوار والتواصل مع نخب فكرية وثقافية لخلق مناخ إيجابي يثري الثقافة ويعزز الوعي العام عبر سلسلة من اللقاءات الدورية، وستتمحور الجلسة الثانية حول موضوع الذكاء الاصطناعي.
