Cuban authorities said on Monday their three-shot Abdala vaccine against the coronavirus had proved 92.28% effective in last-stage clinical trials.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz Canel said his country’s Soberana 02 vaccine against COVID-19 gives in two doses 50% more efficacy than the Level Set by the World Health Organization (WHO) for candidate vaccines against Covid-19.
The name of the vaccine derived from the “Abdala”, a play written in 1895 by the famous Cuban poet José Martí who died at the age of 42, known for his propensity for Arabs and their glorification in many of his poems, to the extent that most of the heroes of his poems are Arab, as the hero of the poetic play he wrote in his youth, and made a young Egyptian from Nubia its hero, named Abdullah.
According to Russia Today, the Cuban biotechnology group BioCubaFarma announced on June 20th that the “Soberana 02” vaccine produced by the Finlay Institute showed a 62% efficacy against the virus.
أعلنت السلطات الكوبية أن لقاحها “عبد الله” المكون من ثلاث جرعات أثبت فعاليته ضد فيروس كورونا بنسبة 92.28٪ في المرحلة الأخيرة من التجارب السريرية.
من جانبه قال الرئيس الكوبي ميغيل دياز كانيل، إن لقاح “سوبيرانا 02” المصمم في بلاده ضد فيروس كورونا، يعطي بجرعتين فعالية تتجاوز 50٪ من المستوى الذي حددته منظمة الصحة العالمية للقاحات المرشحة الفعالة ضد مرض كوفيد-19.
واشتق اسم اللقاح من “مسرحية عبد الله” التي ألفها شاعر كوبا الشهير خوسيه مارتي الراحل سنة 1895 عن 42 عاما، والمعروف بميله للعرب وتمجيدهم في كثير من قصائده، إلى درجة جعل معظم أبطال قصائده منهم، كبطل المسرحية الشعرية التي ألفها في شبابه، وجعل من شاب مصري من النوبة بطلها، واسمه عبد الله.
ووفقا لموقع روسيا اليوم فقد كانت مجموعة شركات التكنولوجيا البيولوجية الكوبية BioCubaFarma، أعلنت في 20 يونيو الحالي أن لقاح “سوبيرانا 02” الذي صممه معهد “فينلي” أظهر فعالية ضد الفيروس بنسبة 62٪.
