Fire Station announces design competition embodying the rich Qatari culture and heritage

Doha: Qatar Museum and Fire Station Artist in Residence in association with Coastal Qatar has announced a design competition titled “Qatar Al Fann” or “Qatar Art.” The contest aims to transform functional products that the general public interact with, to functional art like landscape furniture, carpets, rugs, and others designed by the local artists, embodying the rich Qatari culture and heritage.
“Qatar is on the threshold of hosting the most prestigious and exciting global sporting event, the FIFA 2022 football world cup. The event will, without doubt, provide Qatar an unprecedented level of international exposure and the opportunity to showcase its rich Arab cultural and heritage to the entire world,” said Khalifa Al Obaidli, Director of Artist in Residence ‘Fire Station’.
“Historically art has thrived only with the support of patrons. We are extremely happy to note that government bodies like Ashghal, Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Lusail Development, Msheireb, and Awqaf have expressed their eagerness to incorporate the selected designs in their upcoming projects. Qatar could probably be the only country where the government agencies have come forward to promote the functional art designed by the local artists” he added.
A jury would be appointed to judge and shortlist designs for incorporation into a co-branded design library with the details of the artist, inspiration for the design and others which could be used by architects and designers for their projects.

أعلنت مطافئ: مقر الفنانين بالتعاون مع كوستال قطر، مساء اليوم، عن مسابقة للتصميم بعنوان /قطر الفن/ بهدف تحويل المنتجات والمواد التي يتفاعل معها الجمهور إلى فن وظيفي مثل أثاث ومفروشات الحدائق والسجاد، وما إلى ذلك، المصممة بأيادي فنانين محليين، والتي تجسد الثقافة والتراث القطري الثري.
وقال الفنان خليفة العبيدلي، مدير مطافئ: مقر الفنانين في كلمة له بهذه المناسبة، إن دولة قطر تستعد لاستضافة أهم البطولات الرياضية العالمية على الإطلاق، وهي مونديال كأس العالم 2022.. وبلا شك، فإن هذا الحدث التاريخي سيكون له طابع إيجابي لنشر الثقافة القطرية والتراث القطري الغني في جميع أنحاء العالم.
وأوضح العبيدلي: أن الفن تاريخيا، لم يكن ليزدهر دون دعم الجهات الراعية، لافتا إلى أن القطاعات الحكومية مثل هيئة الأشغال العامة ووزارة البلدية والبيئة ولوسيل ومشيرب العقارية ووزارة الأوقاف وغيرها، أعربت عن حرصها على دمج واستخدام التصاميم المختارة في مشاريعها القادمة. ومن المحتمل أن تكون قطر هي الدولة الوحيدة التي أخذت فيها الهيئات الحكومية على عاتقها الترويج للفن الوظيفي الذي صممه الفنانون المحليون.
وأكد أنه من أجل دعم هذا الانتشار والتوسع الثقافي القطري، فإنه لا بد من خلق فرص لإظهار هذا الفن للمشجعين والسائحين والزوار للتفاعل معه ومع التراث القطري بشكل عملي وملموس ويومي بدلًا من الاحتفاظ به فقط بين أروقة المتاحف والمعارض.
وكشف مدير مطافئ: مقر الفنانين، أنه سيتم تعيين حكام محليين وعالميين لتقييم الأعمال الفنية وتنقيحها واختيار مجموعة منها، والتي سيتم إدراجها ونشرها لاحقًا ضمن كُتيّب يتضمن اسم الفنان وسيرة ذاتية عنه والإلهام وراء عمله الفني والتي يمكن استخدامها من قبل المهندسين المعماريين والمصممين لمشاريعهم المستقبلية .
وستتولّى /كوستال قطر/ وهي شركة قطرية متخصّصة في مجال الصناعة والتشييد ولديها العديد من المبادرات التي تتبنّى شعار /صنع في قطر/، صنع المنتجات المختارة في قطر من خلال شراكة تكنولوجية مع خبراء متخصصين أو تصنيعها في الخارج من خلال مصادر مختارة حسب الطلب وتسليمها إلى المشاريع.
بدوره، أكد السيد نيشاد عظيم، الرئيس التنفيذي لمجموعة /كوستال قطر/، حرص الشركة على دعم المنتجات القطرية والاعتزاز بها.. قائلا “نحن فخورون بمبادراتنا الخاصة بالتصنيع المحلي مثل أعمدة الإنارة والحواجز وخاصة التصنيع المحلي لمقاعد الجمهور لستة ملاعب ستقوم باستضافة المباريات في كأس العالم 2022 في دولة قطر . ونهدف إلى عرض المنتجات القطرية على المسرح العالمي كمنتجات عالمية المستوى ونحن على ثقة من تقديم المنتجات المصممة من قبل الفنانين المحليين.
ويهدف هذا المشروع إلى منح المصممين منصات مميزة ووسائل للتعبير عن موهبتهم الخلاقة وأعمالهم الفنية المبتكرة وعرضها في الأماكن العامة والفنادق والمكاتب والحدائق العامة والمساجد وغيرها ، فضلا عن منح الفنانين الفرصة لنشر أعمالهم وعرضها على مستوى عالمي لتحقق ربحا ماديا مجديا.
