Doha: Al Sailiya came back from 0-1 down to beat Qatar SC 2-1 in Week 20 of the 2020-21 season QNB Stars League at the Qatar SC Stadium on Saturday.
Ramin Rezaeian (48th minute) and Abdulqadir Ilyas (71st minute) were on target for Al Sailiya after Cristian Ceballos (42nd-minute penalty) gave Qatar SC the lead with a spot-kick.
Al Sailiya moved to 26 points from seven wins and five draws, while Qatar SC remained on 31 points following their seventh defeat. The start of the match saw exchange of attacks from both sides.
Al Sailiya, who clinched the 2020-21 season Ooredoo Cup by beating Al Rayyan 2-0 in the final recently, created the first chance, but Ilyas header went wide. The Peregrines were dominating the proceedings with 60 per cent of ball possession in the first 20 minutes. The Kings surged ahead through a penalty kick after Anthony Okpotu, racing inside the box with only goalkeeper to beat, was fouled by goalkeeper Claude Amine. Ceballos, with a beautiful chip in the centre, put Qatar SC in the lead as the keeper dived to his right.
QNB Stars League’s website said that Al Sailiya went into the half-time with a deficit despite dominating the first session with 62 per cent ball possession. However, they came back strongly in the second half, scoring two goals to clinch victory. Three minutes after the start of second half, Rezaeian scored for The Peregrines with a stunning free-kick from a few yards outside the box as Qatar SC goalkeeper Jassim Al Hail had no chance to stop the ball despite making a flying attempt.
Ilyas handed Al Sailiya the lead by scoring a goal from near the penalty spot off an assist by Mohanad Ali. Qatar SCs appeal for a spot kick was turned down by VAR in the 76th minute, with replay showing Amine committed no foul against Okpotu this time. Yousef Ayman missed a chance failing to connect a ball from close range late into the match as Al Sailiya notched up a comeback win.

جاءت مباراة السيلية ونادي قطر قوية ومثيرة، وشهدت انطلاقتها فترات جس نبض من الجانبين رغم أفضلية السيلية على مستوى الاستحواذ ومحاولات التسجيل، وبمرور الوقت بدأ الفريقان يتبادلان الهجمات خاصة عن طريق التسديد من خارج منطقة الجزاء وكانت أبرزها تسديدة حامد اسماعيل لاعب نادي قطر في الدقيقة 37.
وفي الدقيقة 41 حصل نادي قطر على ركلة جزاء بعد عرقلة من كلود أمين حارس مرمى السيلية للاعب قطر أنتوني أكبوتو قام، نفذها بنجاح كريستيان بريتو ليفتتح النتيجة لفريقه وينتهي الشوط الأول بتقدم نادي قطر بهدف نظيف.
ومع انطلاق الشوط الثاني، ضغط السيلية وقدم مردودا قويا مغايرا للشوط الأول ونجح في الدقيقة 48 في تعديل النتيجة بواسطة لاعبه رامين سمكندي بتسديدة مباشرة في المرمى.
هذا الهدف منح الثقة للاعبي السيلية، وارتفع إيقاع المباراة وزادت المحاولات الهجومية من جانب الفريقين سعيا وراء تسجيل هدف التقدم، حيث ظلت النتيجة التعادل حتى الدقيقة 71 التي سجل خلالها عبدالقادر الياس الهدف الثاني للسيلية بعد مجهود كبير من زميله مهند علي.
وتواصلت المحاولات من جانب السيلية الذي أهدر العديد من الفرص بواسطة لاعبه مهند علي، حتى أطلق حكم المباراة صفارته معلنا عن نهاية أحداث المباراة بفوز السيلية على نادي قطر بهدفين مقابل هدف.
