Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation, International Understanding Nominations’ Screening Completed

Doha: Today, the Board of Trustees of the Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding announced that the Steering Committee of the Award has completed the preliminary screening process for nominations, which were submitted for the award in its eighth season for the year 2022.

The spokesperson for the Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding, Dr. Hanan Al Fayyad, said that the Award Steering Committee received, this year, a number of nominations of individuals and translation institutions from Qatar, Spain, Jordan, Emirates, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Somalia, Iraq, Kuwait, Germany, Morocco, United Kingdom, United States, Italy, Turkey, Tunisia, Niger, South Africa, Sultanate of Oman , Syria, Palestine, France, Canada, Lebanon, Libya, the Netherlands, Egypt, New Zealand, Romania, Indonesia, Tanzania and Kazakhstan.

Dr. Al Fayyad explained that the highest nominations came from Turkey, followed by Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Morocco, Iraq and Jordan, pointing out that the nominated works featured various fields of human sciences, including: Islamic studies, literature, philosophy, social sciences, political sciences and history.

Al Fayyad added that the award ceremony of the Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding will be held on Jan. 29, on the sidelines of the Forum Arab and International Relations , slated for Jan. 28 and 29, 2023.

With total prizes of USD 2 million, the 8th edition of the award has adopted the Turkish language as a main language, after English. The Award Categories are: Translation from Arabic into English; Translation from English into Arabic; Translation from Arabic into Turkish; Translation from Turkish into Arabic; and the Achievement Award in English and Turkish, the two main languages in addition to the categories of Achievement Awards in translations of selected languages from and into Arabic, namely: Romanian, Kazakh, Swahili, Bahasa Indonesia, and Vietnamese as sub-languages.

Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding was founded in Doha, Qatar (2015). It is an international prize run by a board of trustees, a steering committee and independent panels of judges.

The Award seeks to honour translators and acknowledge their role in strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation amongst peoples and nations of the world. It hopes to reward merit and excellence, encourage creativity, uphold the highest moral and ethical standards, and spread the values of diversity, pluralism and openness. The Award also aspires to inculcate a culture of knowledge and dialogue, promote Arab and Islamic culture, develop international understanding, and encourage mature cross-cultural interaction between Arabic and other world languages through the medium of translation.

الدوحة: أعلن مجلس أمناء جائزة الشيخ حمد للترجمة والتفاهم الدولي عن انتهاء لجنة تسيير الجائزة من عملية الفرز الأولي للترشيحات، التي تقدمت للجائزة في موسمها الثامن لعام 2022.

وأفادت الدكتورة حنان الفياض المتحدثة الإعلامية لجائزة الشيخ حمد للترجمة والتفاهم الدولي، في تصريح لها بالمناسبة، بعد إغلاق باب الترشح والترشيح للموسم الثامن من الجائزة (2022)، بأن لجنة تسيير الجائزة تسلمت هذا العام مجموعة من الترشيحات، تمثل أفرادا ومؤسسات معنية بالترجمة، توزعت على عدد من البلدان هي: قطر ، إسبانيا، الأردن، الإمارات، الجزائر ، السعودية، السودان، الصومال، العراق، الكويت، ألمانيا، المغرب، المملكة المتحدة، الولايات المتحدة، إيطاليا، تركيا، تونس، النيجر ، جنوب أفريقيا، سلطنة عمان، سوريا، فلسطين، فرنسا، كندا، لبنان، ليبيا، هولندا، مصر ، نيوزلندا، رومانيا، أندونيسيا، تنزانيا وكازخستان.

وأوضحت أن أعلى الترشيحات جاءت من تركيا، تليها مصر والسعودية، وقطر والمغرب والعراق والأردن، كما بلغت ترشيحات الجنسيات الآتية الأعلى، وهي: التركية، والمصرية والسعودية والسورية والعراقية والأردنية، منوهة بأن الأعمال المترشحة شملت ميادين العلوم الإنسانية المختلفة، منها: الدراسات الإسلامية، الأدب، الفلسفة، العلوم الاجتماعية، العلوم السياسية، التاريخ وغيرها.

وأضافت الفياض أن حفل إعلان أسماء الفائزين بجائزة الشيخ حمد للترجمة والتفاهم الدولي سيكون في 29 يناير المقبل، على هامش مؤتمر منتدى العلاقات العربية والدولية /الترجمة وإشكالات المثاقفة (9)/ والذي سينعقد يومي 28 و29 يناير 2023.

جدير بالذكر، أن الجائزة التي تأسست عام 2015، تسعى إلى تكريم المترجمين وتقدير دورهم في تمتين أواصر الصداقة والتعاون بين أمم العالم وشعوبه، وتشجيع الإبداع، وترسيخ القيم السامية، وإشاعة التنوع والتعددية والانفتاح، كما تطمح إلى تأصيل ثقافة المعرفة والحوار، ونشر الثقافة العربية والإسلامية، وتنمية التفاهم الدولي.

يشار إلى أن قيمة جائزة الشيخ حمد للترجمة والتفاهم الدولي تبلغ مليوني دولار أمريكي، واعتمدت في دورتها الثامنة لعام 2022 اللغة التركية لغة رئيسة ثانية، بعد الإنجليزية، وخمس لغات في فئات الإنجاز، لتكون فئات الجائزة لهذا الموسم: فئة الترجمة من اللغة العربية إلى اللغة الإنجليزية، فئة الترجمة من اللغة الإنجـليزية إلى اللغة العـربية، فئة الترجمة من اللغة العــربية إلى اللغة التركية، فئة الترجمة من اللغة التركية إلى اللغة العـربية، وجائزة الإنجـاز في اللغتين الرئيستين /الإنجليزية والتركية/، فضلا عن فئات جوائز الإنجاز في ترجمات اللغات المختارة من العربية وإليها، وهي: الرومانية والكازخستانية والسواحلية وبهاسا أندونيسيا والفيتنامية كلغات فرعية.

وعن اختيار اللغة التركية كلغة ثانية، أشارت الفياض إلى أن ترشيح اللغة التركية حصل للمرة الثانية، إذ سبق لها وأن دخلت الترشيحات بوصفها لغة رئيسة ثانية في العام 2015، وذلك لكثرة ما يصدر عنها من ترجمات من وإلى اللغة العربية.

وأشارت إلى أن الترشيحات مبشرة بأن مسيرة المعرفة الإنسانية تظل حاضرة ويزداد الاهتمام بهذا الجانب، وأن حركة الترجمة تظل ميدانا حيا وجسرا لا ينقطع بين حضارات الشعوب.
