Dabiyat Meteors Peak in Qatar’s Sky on Thursday Evening

Doha: Qatar Calendar House announced today that the people living in the Northern Hemisphere, including the residents of Qatar, will have the opportunity to observe and track the second Geminids meteorite, known as the Al Dibiyat meteor shower, which is active during December. Also, Qatar and the rest of the world will witness the shortest day of this year.

There is a good opportunity this year that Al Dibiyat meteors will be visible as the sky will be darker because the moon will not be in the sky overnight from Thursday evening until Friday morning.

Qatar Calendar House’s astronomer Dr. Bashir Marzouq said that the meteorite will peak on the evening of Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022, and will continue until the dawn of Friday, Dec. 23, 2022, knowing that the meteor shower is active every year during the period between Dec. 7 and Dec. 17.

Marzouq noted that the resident of Qatar can observe and see the meteorite without the need for astronomical devices or telescopes. They can see and monitor the meteors from Thursday evening, until the dawn of Friday, by looking towards the northern horizon of the sky of the State of Qatar, where the rate of fall at its peak will reach 10 meteors per hour, according to astronomers specializing in meteorological observation.

He added that this day will be almost the shortest day for all inhabitants of the northern hemisphere, including those living in the state of Qatar, where the winter solstice phenomenon takes place in the northern half, while the situation will be in the opposite to the population in the southern half as they would experience the summer solstice phen

The winter solstice phenomenon is one of the important astrological phenomena; where the population of the Earth depends on it and the rest of the four seasons to learn about climate changes, in addition to the fact that the sun will rise on this day from the southeasternmost point during the year and the length of the shadow at the afternoon time will be the longest shadow of the year.

الدوحة: أعلنت دار التقويم القطري أن سكان النصف الشمالي من الكرة الأرضية بمن فيهم سكان دولة قطر سيكونون على موعد مع رؤية ورصد زخة الشهب الثانية خلال شهر ديسمبر الجاري، والتي تعرف بـزخة شهب /الدبيات/، كما ستشهد دولة قطر وجميع سكان النصف الشمالي من الكرة الأرضية أقصر نهار خلال العام.

وسوف تحظى شهب /الدبيات/ هذا العام بفرصة جيدة، وذلك لأن القمر لن يكون موجودا في السماء طوال الليل من مساء الخميس وحتى صباح الجمعة، وهو ما يجعل السماء أكثر ظلمة.

وذكر الدكتور بشير مرزوق الخبير الفلكي بدار التقويم القطري، أن زخة شهب /الدبيات/ سوف تصل ذروتها مساء بعد غد الخميس الموافق 22 من شهر ديسمبر 2022م، وستمتد حتى بزوغ فجر الجمعة 23 من ديسمبر 2022م ، علما بأن شهب الدبيات تنشط سنويا خلال الفترة الممتدة بين 17 و26 ديسمبر من كل عام.

وأشار مرزوق أن سكان دولة قطر يمكنهم رصد ورؤية زخة شهب الدبيات بالعين المجردة دون الحاجة إلى أجهزة أو تليسكوبات فلكية، إذ يمكنهم رؤية ورصد شهب الدبيات من مساء الخميس، وحتى بزوغ فجر الجمعة، وذلك بالنظر باتجاه الأفق الشمالي لسماء دولة قطر، حيث أن معدل سقوطها عندما تصل ذروتها سيصل إلى 10 شهب في الساعة بحسب تقدير علماء الفلك المتخصصين في رصد الشهب.

وأضاف أن هذا اليوم سيكون أقصر نهار تقريبا على جميع سكان النصف الشمالي من الكرة الأرضية بمن فيهم سكان دولة قطر؛ حيث ستحدث ظاهرة الانقلاب الشتوي عند سكان النصف الشمالي، بينما سيكون الوضع معاكسا عند سكان النصف الجنوبي؛ حيث ستحدث عندهم ظاهرة الانقلاب الصيفي في ذات اليوم.

من جهة أخرى، سوف تتعامد الشمس تماما على مدار الجدي في نصف الكرة الجنوبي خلال الساعات الأولى من صباح يوم الخميس 22 من شهر ديسمبر 2022م، وذلك بعد منتصف ليل الخميس بـ 43 دقيقة بتوقيت الدوحة المحلي.

وتعتبر ظاهرة الانقلاب الشتوي من الظواهر الفلكية الهامة؛ حيث يعتمد عليها وعلى باقي الفصول الأربعة سكان الكرة الأرضية في معرفة التغيرات المناخية، إضافة إلى أنه في هذا اليوم ستشرق الشمس من أقصى نقطة جهة الجنوب الشرقي خلال العام، وأن طول الظل وقت الزوال في هذا اليوم سيكون أطول ظل على مدار العام.
