Katara hosts the Private Museums Forum

Doha: The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) hosted today the Private Museums Forum, on the sidelines of the exhibition “Treasures from Heritage” of the Abdullah Al-Ghanim Museum Collection in Hall 2 of Building 18 in Katara.

His Excellency Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani Museum, spoke at the forum. and Mohammad Hammam Fikri, General Supervisor of the Hassan bin Muhammad Center for Historical Studies. Fadel Al-Mansoori, collector and author of Powder and Damask.

The speakers reviewed aspects of Qatari experiences in establishing and building museums, collectibles, and private collections, and their role in promoting awareness of history, culture, and organizational experiences in managing and displaying them.

His Excellency Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, founder, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani Museum began his speech by pointing out that his passion for museums and collectibles is motivated by a love of the homeland and belonging to the land in which we lived and were blessed by its nature, stressing that the museum and its concern for heritage and its collection represent the most important and successful investments. And that this experience in its various stages contributed to changing his culture, introducing him to the symbols of society and culture in Qatar, and enhancing his passion for reading personal diaries, which represent a wide window on the history of individuals and societies.

He explained that his love for nature in his childhood prompted him to acquire deer and birds, and he was interested in collecting coins and stamps, and then moved to the acquisition of vintage cars and weapons such as rifles, swords, carpets, and other collectibles that increased and expanded in quantity and quality.

For his part, Mohamed Hammam Fikri, General Supervisor of the Sheikh Hassan bin Mohammed Center for Historical Studies, reviewed aspects of the experience of His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Hassan bin Mohammed Al Thani in acquiring arts, collecting heritage and establishing research and thought centers, noting that Sheikh Hassan bin Mohammed’s interest in collecting cultural heritage began At an early stage, he contributed to supporting the holdings of working museums and proceeded from the experience of museums to the establishment of interactive centers linked to society and culture. He established the Qatar Art Center to host fine artists and build bridges of dialogue between the experiences of young creators and pioneers, and collected the works of pioneers of fine art in the Arab world, and deposited them in the center, which included a library and embraced creativity workshops.

Fikri added that Sheikh Dr. Hassan bin Mohammed established the Hassan bin Mohammed Center for Historical Studies with the aim of collecting the sources of Qatar’s history from manuscripts and printed documents and making maps, manuscripts, and documents available to researchers interested in the history of Qatar and the Arab Gulf. He also issued the journal “Riwaq: History and Heritage”, which is issued in paper and electronic format to interact with the scientific community and promote research related to the history and heritage of Qatar and the Gulf.

Mohamed Hammam Fikri explained that the center is interested in collecting foreign documents in English and French, translating them, and making them available to researchers, due to their importance, and what they monitor from the history of society, people’s lives, and trade conditions, through reports written by sailors, navigators, and travelers that documented important events in the history of Qatar and the region, noting that the center includes the oral history department. It means documenting the testimonies of the elderly in society, with careful memory and frequent memorization and narration of events.

In the same context, Fadel Al-Mansoori, a professional collector in the field of weapons and author of the book Powder and Damask, spoke about his experience in acquiring and collecting weapons, which culminated in organizing the Powder and Damask exhibition at the Museum of Islamic Art in 2017, sponsored by Qatar Museums, in which 69 unique pieces of weapons from three empires were displayed: Mughal, Ottoman, and gypsy, He pointed out that the first piece he owned was a sword from the Mughal era, after which his curiosity led him to learn about the world of Islamic weapons. And to the experiences of the Mughal, Ottoman, and gypsy empires, in developing gunpowder weapons, noting that he was initially interested in design, shape, and decorations and developed an experiment that enabled him to identify the origin of the weapon and its reference in geography and history.

Al-Mansoori noted the experience of the exhibition “Powder and the Damask”, which was presented in 2018 in a documentary film on Al-Jazeera channel, and culminated in a book with the same title that represents a summary of his experience and represents a reference to facing the challenges of acquisition and strategies, declaring that his next project is to establish a private museum for weapons.

It is noteworthy that the exhibition “Treasures from Heritage” for the Abdullah Al-Ghanim Museum collection includes a selection of traditional Qatari costumes, weapons, and heritage collectibles, and will continue until the 28th of this month at the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara).

وتحدث في الملتقي كل من سعادة الشيخ فيصل بن قاسم آل ثاني مؤسس ورئيس مجلس أمناء متحف الشيخ فيصل بن قاسم آل ثاني. ومحمد همام فكري المشرف العام على مركز حسن بن محمد الدراسات التاريخية. وفاضل المنصوري، جامع المقتنيات ومؤلف كتاب البارود والجوهر.

استعرض المتحدثون جوانب من تجارب قطرية في تأسيس وبناء المتاحف والمقتنيات والمجموعات الخاصة، ودورها في تعزيز الوعي بالتاريخ والثقافة والخبرات التنظيمية في إدارتها وعرضها.

واستهل سعادة الشيخ فيصل بن قاسم آل ثاني مؤسس ورئيس مجلس أمناء متحف الشيخ فيصل بن قاسم آل ثاني حديثه بالإشارة إلى أن الشغف بالمتاحف وبالمقتنيات دافعه حب الوطن والانتماء للأرض التي عشنا فيها ونعمنا بطبيعتها، مؤكدا أن المتحف والحرص على التراث وجمعه تمثل أهم وأنجح استثماراته. وأن هذه التجربة بمراحلها المختلفة أسهمت في تغيير ثقافته، وعرفته على رموز المجتمع والثقافة في قطر وعززت شغفه بقراءة المذكرات الشخصية التي تمثل نافذة واسعة على تاريخ الأفراد والمجتمعات فمن يقرأ المذكرات يعيش حياته ويتعرف على حياة غيره.

وأوضح أن حبه للطبيعة في طفولته دفعه لاقتناء الغزلان والطيور، واهتم بجمع العملات والطوابع، وانتقل بعدها إلى اقتناء السيارات القديمة والأسلحة من بنادق وسيوف والسجاد والمقتنيات الأخرى التي زادت وتوسعت كما ونوعا، فكان لابد من رفع مستوى المكان الذي تعرض فقام بتأسيس المتحف في منطقة الشيحانية.

من جانبه، استعرض محمد همام فكري المشرف العام على مركز الشيخ حسن بن محمد للدراسات التاريخية جوانب من تجربة سعادة الشيخ الدكتور حسن بن محمد آل ثاني في اقتناء الفنون وجمع التراث وتأسيس مراكز البحث والفكر، مشيرا إلى أن اهتمام الشيخ حسن بن محمد بجمع التراث الثقافي بدأ في مرحلة مبكرة فأسهم في دعم مقتنيات متاحف عاملة وانطلق من تجربة المتاحف إلى تأسيس المراكز التفاعلية المرتبطة بالمجتمع والثقافة. فأنشأ مركز قطر الفني لاستضافة الفنانين التشكيليين وبناء جسور الحوار بين تجارب المبدعين الشباب والرواد وجمع أعمال رواد الفن التشكيلي في الوطن العربي وأودعها في المركز الذي ضم مكتبة واحتضن ورش للإبداع.

وأضاف فكري أن الشيخ الدكتور حسن بن محمد أسس مركز حسن بن محمد للدراسات التاريخية بهدف جمع مصادر تاريخ قطر من المخطوطات والوثائق المطبوعة وإتاحة الخرائط والمخطوطات والوثائق للباحثين المهتمين بتاريخ قطر والخليج العربي. كما أصدر مجلة /رواق التاريخ والتراث/ التي تصدر ورقيا وإلكترونيا للتفاعل مع المجتمع العلمي وتعزيز البحوث المتصلة بتاريخ وتراث قطر والخليج.

وأوضح محمد همام فكري أن المركز يهتم بجمع الوثائق الأجنبية باللغات الإنجليزية والفرنسية ويترجمها ويتيحها للباحثين، لأهميتها، وما ترصده من تاريخ المجتمع وحياة الناس وأحوال التجارة، من خلال تقارير كتبها بحارة وملاحين ورحالة وثقت لأحداث مهمة في تاريخ قطر والمنطقة، منوها بأن المركز يضم قسم التاريخ الشفاهي.. ويعني بتوثيق شهادات كبار السن في المجتمع، في عناية بالذاكرة والتواتر في حفظ الأحداث وسردها.

وفي ذات الإطار تحدث فاضل المنصوري المقتني المتخصص في مجال الأسلحة ومؤلف كتاب البارود والجوهر، عن تجربته في اقتناء وجمع الأسلحة والتي توجت بتنظيم معرض البارود والجوهر في متحف الفن الإسلامي عام 2017 برعاية متاحف قطر، الذي تم فيه عرض 69 قطعة فريدة من أسلحة ثلاث إمبراطوريات هي المغولية والعثمانية والغاجرية، مشيرا إلى أن أول قطعة امتلكها كانت سيفا من الحقبة المغولية، بعدها قاده الفضول للتعرف عالم الأسلحة الإسلامية. وإلى تجارب الإمبراطوريات المغولية والعثمانية والغاجرية، في تطوير أسلحة البارود، مشيرا إلى أنه اهتم في البداية بالتصميم والشكل والزخارف وطور تجربة مكنته من التعرف على منشأ قطعة السلاح ومرجعيتها في الجغرافيا والتاريخ.

ونوه المنصوري بتجربة معرض /البارود والجوهر/ التي قدمت عام 2018 في فيلم وثائقي بقناة الجزيرة، وتوجت بكتاب بنفس العنوان يمثل خلاصة تجربته ويمثل مرجعا في مواجهة تحديات الاقتناء واستراتيجياته، معلنا أن مشروعه القادم يتمثل في تأسيس متحف خاص للأسلحة.

يشار إلى أن معرض “كنوز من التراث” لمجموعة متحف عبدالله الغانم يضم مجموعة مختارة من الأزياء القطرية التقليدية والأسلحة والمقتنيات التراثية ويستمر إلى الثامن والعشرين من الشهر الجاري بالمؤسسة العامة للحي الثقافي /كتارا/.
