HMC: Organ Donation Record Exceeds 500,000 Donors

Doha: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) revealed that the record of organ donors exceeded 500,000, which represents about 25 percent of the adult population in Qatar, while this year’s organ transplant program achieved a historic achievement by performing the largest number of kidney transplants since its inception, in addition to conducting three operations of lung transplant in the first year of the lung transplant program.

The Director of Qatar Organ Donation Center (Hiba), member of the Committee of Experts on Organ Donation and Transplantation at the World Health Organization Dr. Riyad Fadel, said that the record of organ donation in Qatar includes more than 131 nationalities, which positively reflected on the rate of organ donation among all nationalities, as values of respect for Human rights, independence and fairness in making the State of Qatar a role model in ethical practices and best medical practices, which is greatly admired by the international transplant community.

This ceremony coincides with the most successful year ever so far in the history of organ transplant and organ donation programs in the State of Qatar, where more kidney transplants than ever were performed at Hamad Medical Corporation, as well as three successful lung transplants during the first year of the lung transplant program.

Organ transplants can contribute to saving patients’ lives, and can contribute to a significant improvement in the quality of life for patients with chronic organ failure. Also, a post-mortem organ donor may contribute to saving the lives of up to eight individuals, and a kidney or part of a liver can also be donated during life.

The Medical Director of Hamad General Hospital and Director of Qatar Center for Organ Transplantation Dr. Yousef Al Maslamani, said that the organ transplant program in Qatar provides surgeries for kidney and liver transplants, and now provides lung transplants, which makes Hamad Medical Corporation one of the most comprehensive organ transplant centers in the region.

For his part, the Acting Chief Medical Officer for Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) Dr. Abdullah Al-Ansari, said that the Corporation has worked tirelessly with the Qatar Center for Organ Transplantation to implement the principles of Doha Donation Accord (DDA), while citizens and residents continue to support Qatars unique, fair, and world-class organ donation and transplant programs.

الدوحة: كشفت مؤسسة حمد الطبية عن أن سجل المتبرعين بالأعضاء تجاوز 500 ألف متبرع مسجل، وهو ما يمثل نحو 25 بالمئة من السكان البالغين في قطر، بينما حقق برنامج زراعة الأعضاء هذا العام إنجازا تاريخيا بإجرائه أكبر عدد عمليات زراعة للكلى منذ إنشائه، إلى جانب إجراء ثلاث عمليات زراعة رئة في العام الأول من برنامج زراعة الرئة.

وقال الدكتور رياض فاضل مدير مركز قطر للتبرع بالأعضاء (هبة) عضو لجنة خبراء التبرع بالأعضاء وزراعتها في منظمة الصحة العالمية: إن سجل التبرع بالأعضاء في قطر يتضمن أكثر من 131 جنسية، ما انعكس إيجابا على معدل التبرع بالأعضاء بين جميع الجنسيات، حيث أسهمت قيم احترام حقوق الإنسان والاستقلالية والإنصاف في جعل دولة قطر نموذجا يحتذى به في الممارسات الأخلاقية، واتباع أفضل الممارسات الطبية، وهو ما يحظى بإعجاب كبير من قبل مجتمع زراعة الأعضاء الدولي.

وأقام مركز قطر للتبرع بالأعضاء (هبة) ومؤسسة حمد الطبية احتفالية بمناسبة الذكرى العاشرة لتأسيس المركز، تم خلالها تكريم 71 من المتبرعين الأحياء بالكلى، و8 متبرعين أحياء بالكبد، و10 متبرعين بالخلايا الجذعية، و35 أسرة من أسر المتبرعين بالأعضاء المتوفين.

ويأتي هذا الحفل تزامنا مع العام الأكثر نجاحا على الإطلاق حتى الآن في تاريخ برامج زراعة الأعضاء والتبرع بالأعضاء في دولة قطر، حيث تم إجراء أكبر عدد من عمليات زراعة الكلى أكثر من أي وقت مضى في مؤسسة حمد الطبية، إلى جانب إجراء ثلاث عمليات زراعة رئة ناجحة خلال العام الأول من إطلاق برنامج زراعة الرئة.

ويمكن لعمليات زراعة الأعضاء أن تسهم في إنقاذ حياة المرضى، كما يمكنها أن تسهم في تحسن كبير في نوعية حياة المرضى المصابين بفشل مزمن لأحد أعضاء الجسم. وكذلك قد يسهم المتبرع بالأعضاء بعد الوفاة في إنقاذ حياة ما يصل إلى ثمانية أفراد، كما يمكن أيضا التبرع بكلية أو بجزء من الكبد أثناء الحياة.

وقال الدكتور يوسف المسلماني المدير الطبي لمستشفى حمد العام مدير مركز قطر لزراعة الأعضاء: إن برنامج زراعة الأعضاء في قطر يوفر عمليات جراحية لزراعة الكلى والكبد، كما يوفر الآن عمليات زرع الرئة، ما يجعل مؤسسة حمد الطبية واحدة من أكثر مراكز زراعة الأعضاء شمولا في المنطقة.

من جهته، قال الدكتور عبدالله الأنصاري رئيس الإدارة الطبية بمؤسسة حمد الطبية: إن المؤسسة عملت بلا كلل مع مركز قطر لزراعة الأعضاء لتنفيذ مبادئ ميثاق الدوحة للتبرع بالأعضاء، بينما يواصل المواطنون والمقيمون دعم برامج قطر الفريدة والعادلة، وذات المستوى العالمي للتبرع بالأعضاء وزراعة الأعضاء.
