Longest lunar eclipse on July 27: QCH

RESIDENTS of Qatar and all other Arab countries will be able to witness the last lunar eclipse of the year on Friday evening (July 27), where it will be occurring during the full moon of Hijric month ‘Dhul-Qa’da, 1439H’, a Qatar Calendar House (QCH) press release said on Sunday.

This total lunar eclipse will be rare because it is the longest total lunar eclipse to occur during the current century with the duration of all phases of the lunar eclipse to be six hours and 14 minutes. The duration of total lunar eclipse will be one hour and 43 minutes, QCH’s Expert Astronomer Dr Beshir Marzouk said.

Total lunar eclipses will be visible in parts of Asia (including Qatar), Africa, Europe, Australia, Southern America, and parts of Northern America.

Qatar residents will have a good chance to observe the lunar eclipse from Friday evening until Saturday. The penumbral phase of lunar eclipse will start over Qatar sky at 8.15pm (this phase can be seen only with telescopes) whereas the partial phase will start at 9.24pm and the total phase at 10.30pm.

It is worth mentioning that the moon will rise in Doha at 6.09pm on July 27 and set at 5.15am on Saturday. (TNN)

أعلنت دار التقويم القطري أن معظم سكان الكرة الأرضية على موعد مع الخسوف القمري الأطول خلال القرن الحالي، والذي يتفق توقيت وسطه مع بدر شهر ذي القعدة لهذا العام، وسيستمر هذا الخسوف من مساء الجمعة المقبل، حتى الساعات الأولى من صباح اليوم التالي.

وذكر الدكتور بشير مرزوق -الخبير الفلكي بدار التقويم القطري- أن آخر الخسوفات القمرية لهذا العام سيكون من نوع الخسوف الكلي للقمر، حيث إن ظل الأرض سوف يحجب 161 % من كامل قرص القمر، عندما يصل الخسوف الكلي للقمر ذروته، وذلك لأن مركز كل من القمر والأرض والشمس سيكون على خط استقامة واحد، وتكون الأرض بين الشمس والقمر، فتحجب أشعة الشمس الساقطة على سطح القمر.

كما سيتمكن سكان كل من قارة آسيا (ومنها دولة قطر)، وقارة إفريقيا، وأوروبا، وأستراليا، وأميركا الجنوبية، وأجزاء من أميركا الشمالية من رصد ومتابعة الخسوف القمري بمراحله المختلفة.

وأشار مرزوق إلى أن الخسوف القمري المقبل يُعد أطول الخسوفات القمرية خلال القرن الحالي، وذلك لأن جميع مراحل الخسوف القمري سوف تستغرق مدة قدرها ست ساعات وأربع عشرة دقيقة منذ بداية الخسوف وحتى نهايته، إضافة إلى أن القمر سوف يستغرق مدة طويلة في مرحلة الخسوف الكلي.;
