Stockholm: The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced yesterday that the Americans Ben Bernanke, the former head of the US Federal Reserve (Central Bank), Douglas Diamond, and Philip Debweg have won the 2022 Nobel Prize for Economics, in recognition of their work in the field of financial and banking crises.
Announcing this year’s award winners, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said: “Actions by central banks and financial regulators around the world in the face of two major recent crises, the Great Recession and the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, have been driven by, in large part, the winners’ researches.
Three Americans also had won the award in 2021, for their systematic contribution to the analysis of causal relationships and their presentation of innovative ideas about the labor market.
Economics Prize, which was not included among the main prizes mentioned in Alfred Nobel’s will, is officially called the Sveriges Riksbank (Swedens central bank) Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, and was awarded for the first time in 1969.
With the announcement of the award of the Nobel Prize for Economics, this year’s awards conclude.

ستوكهولم: أعلنت الأكاديمية الملكية السويدية للعلوم، يوم أمس، فوز الأمريكيين بن برنانكي رئيس مجلس الاحتياطي الاتحادي الأمريكي (البنك المركزي) السابق، ودوجلاس دايموند، وفيليب ديبفيج، بجائزة نوبل للاقتصاد لعام 2022، تقديرا لأعمالهم على صعيد الأزمات المالية والمصارف.
وقالت الأكاديمية الملكية السويدية للعلوم، لدى إعلانها أسماء الفائزين بالجائزة هذا العام: “الإجراءات التي اتخذتها البنوك المركزية والهيئات التنظيمية المالية في جميع أنحاء العالم في مواجهة أزمتين رئيسيتين في الآونة الأخيرة، هما الركود الكبير والانكماش الاقتصادي الذي نجم عن جائحة كوفيد-19، كانت مدفوعة في جزء كبير منها بأبحاث الفائزين”.
وكان ثلاثة أمريكيين أيضا قد فازوا بالجائزة عام 2021، وذلك لإسهامهم المنهجي في تحليل العلاقات السببية وتقديمهم أفكارا مبتكرة حول سوق العمل.
يشار إلى أن جائزة الاقتصاد، والتي لم تكن مدرجة ضمن الجوائز الأساسية التي ذكرت في وصية ألفريد نوبل، تسمى رسميا جائزة بنك السويد في العلوم الاقتصادية ، وأسسها ومولها البنك المركزي السويدي ومنحت لأول مرة عام 1969.
ومع إعلان منح جائزة /نوبل/ للاقتصاد تختتم جوائز هذا العام.
