3,600 giant live trees shipped from Malaysia to Qatar

Doha: Elegancia Group announced that it recently shipped 3,600 giant trees from Malaysia to Qatar. The transfer comes as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainability initiatives and contribute to a greener future for Qatar and planet Earth.
The complex and logistically challenging project necessitated the use of a special vessel to transport the trees on their two-week voyage. The trees that reached 18m in height with their root balls were loaded onto a bulk carrier with a 20m deep covered hold.
Commenting on the achievement, Henrik Christiansen, Chief Executive Officer of Elegancia Group, said: “The shipping of such a large number of trees of various sizes and over a distance of 3,000 nautical miles is a remarkable milestone in our service history. Despite the challenging nature of the operation, our unique capabilities and our experienced and highly qualified professionals deployed their unmatched expertise in planning and execution, further strengthening our stellar track record in delivering projects with excellence.”
The project involved several months-long planning and coordination. Trees of this size require agricultural preparation before they can be moved to avoid any damage to the roots. These procedures can take from 3-4 months to encourage the trees to establish a new root system.
Once the trees were ready for their journey, the vessel’s hold underwent cleaning and sanitization, and wooden cradles and structures were installed to allow the tallest ones horizontal support during the voyage. Elegancia also contracted specialist stevedores for this project who organized the trees in the vessel’s hold and ensured their irrigation throughout the voyage until their unloading in Doha.

ويأتي ذلك ضمن حرص مجموعة إليغانسيا على الاستعانة بخبراتها الطويلة لتلبية احتياجات عملائها في القطاعات المختلفة، حيث تلعب الإمكانيات الرائدة للشركة دورا هاما في إدارة المشاريع وتأمين نقل الشحنات غير العادية. وأوضحت الشركة أن المشروع تطلب استخدام سفينة ذات تصميم خاص تتمتع بعنابر نقل مغطاة بعمق يبلغ عشرين متراً لنقل الأشجار بجذورها في رحلة استغرقت أسبوعين، حيث يصل طول بعض الأشجار المنقولة إلى ثمانية عشر متراً.
وفي تعليق له، قال السيد هينريك كريستيان الرئيس التنفيذي لمجموعة إليغانسيا ، “نقل هذا العدد الضخم من الأشجار بأحجامها المختلفة لمسافة ثلاثة آلاف ميل بحري يعد إنجازاً لافتاً يسجل في تاريخنا الطويل من الخدمات. فرغم صعوبة التحدي، تمكنا من استغلال إمكاناتنا الفريدة والاستفادة من قدرات أفراد فريقنا الذين يتمتعون بمؤهلات عالية وخبرات كبيرة لا نظير لها للتخطيط للمشروع وتنفيذه، الأمر الذي أسهم في تعزيز سجلنا المُشَّرف في تنفيذ المشاريع بامتياز”.
جدير بالذكر أن التخطيط للمشروع تطلب عدة أشهر نظراً لحاجة الأشجار من هذا الحجم إلى تجهيز الظروف الزراعية الملائمة لضمان سلامة الجذور خلال عملية النقل، حيث تحتاج الأشجار من ثلاثة إلى أربعة أشهر لترسيخ جذور جديدة قبل المباشرة في عملية النقل.
وعقب تجهيز الأشجار للنقل خضعت عنابر السفينة لعملية تنظيف وتعقيم شاملة قبل تركيب الحاضنات والهياكل الخشبية المصممة للإبقاء على الأشجار الطويلة مدعومة وآمنة خلال وضعيتها الأفقية أثناء الرحلة. كما حرصت مجموعة إليغانسيا على التعاقد مع كوادر مدربة لتحميل وتنزيل وترتيب الأشجار داخل عنابر السفينة لضمان استمرارية إمدادها بالمياة اللازمة للري طوال الرحلة وحتى وصول الشحنة إلى ميناء الدوحة.
