Launch of Upgrading Works on Some Streets in West Bay Area
بدء تنفيذ أعمال تطوير بعض الشوارع في منطقة الخليج الغربي
The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ has announced the launch of upgrading works on some streets in West Bay Area to improve them and increase their vehicular capacities along with alleviating the traffic in the area especially in peak hours.
Eng. Mooza Al-Sowaidi, Head of Doha Section at the Roads Projects Department in “Ashghal” has stated that, as part of the Public Works Authority’s efforts to improve the existing service facilities and develop the road network in Doha in a way that responds to the economic and social growth requirements in the country, upgrading works on some streets in West Bay Area will enhance internal streets leading to and from Qatar Petroleum District (QP District). In addition to external streets, which are connected to main arterial roads such as Al Corniche Street, Majliss Al Taawon Street and a part of Omar Al Mokhtar Street.
Eng. Al-Sowaidi highlighted the importance of the project given its geographical location in West Bay Area which is one of the most vital areas in Doha, since it comprises the Diplomatic District and attracts many large international and local companies. She then added that the project will contribute in facilitating access to the QP District, which is one of the largest real estate projects in the country and represents a hub for finance and business.
The project works include the establishment and development of 8 signalized intersections on the streets surrounding Qatar Petroleum District to regulate traffic. In addition to the upgrade of water and electricity networks, the installation of lighting poles and the construction of pedestrian walkways. The scope also comprises the expansion of 5 existing signalized intersections on Al Corniche Street and Majlis Al Taawon Street along with the construction of a new signalized intersection at Majliss Al Taawon Street, as well as the provision of pedestrian walkways and cycle paths along the street.
The project will be implemented in two parallel phases, the first includes the development of internal roads surrounding the QP District, while the second phase includes the development of Al Corniche Street, Majls Al Taawon Street and a part of Omar Al Mokhtar Street. As well as the improvement of external roads leading to and from Qatar Petroleum District.
It is worth mentioning that Ashghal has developed a plan to manage traffic during the implementation of traffic diversions in order to minimize the impact of construction and development works in the area on road users.
The project is being implemented by “Al Bawakir Unicon” Company under the supervision of “Gulf Engineering and Industrial Consultancy” Company and is scheduled to be complete by Q1 2021.
أعلنت هيئة الأشغال العامة “أشغال” عن بدء تنفيذ أعمال تطوير بعض الشوارع في منطقة الخليج الغربي بهدف تحسينها وزيادة قدرتها لاستيعاب الحركة المرورية بالمنطقة وتخفيف الازدحام، خصوصاً أثناء أوقات الذروة.
وقد أشارت المهندسة موزة السويدي، رئيسة قسم مدينة الدوحة في إدارة مشروعات الطرق في “أشغال” إلى أنه في إطار الجهود الذي تبذلها الهيئة لتحسين مرافق الخدمات الموجودة وتطوير شبكة الطرق بمدينة الدوحة بما يستجيب لمتطلبات النمو الاقتصادي والاجتماعي في البلاد، فإن مشروع تطوير بعض الشوارع في منطقة الخليج الغربي سيعمل على تطوير الشوارع الداخلية المؤدية من وإلى حي قطر للبترول، بالإضافة إلى تطوير الشوارع الخارجية التي تتصل مباشرة بالطرق الرئيسية وهي شارع الكورنيش وشارع مجلس التعاون وجزء من شارع عمر المختار.
وأكدت المهندسة السويدي على أهمية المشروع نظراً لموقعه الاستراتيجي بالخليج الغربي الذي يعد من أهم المناطق في الدوحة حيث يضم المنطقة الدبلوماسية ويستقطب العديد من الشركات الكبيرة العالمية والمحلية، فضلاً على تسهيله الوصول إلى حي قطر للبترول وهو من أكبر المشاريع العقارية في الدولة ويمثل مركزاً هاماً للمال والأعمال.
وتشمل أعمال المشروع إنشاء وتطوير 8 تقاطعات بإشارات ضوئية بالطرق المحيطة بحي قطر للبترول وذلك بهدف تنظيم حركة السيارات بالإضافة إلى تطوير خطوط شبكات المياه والكهرباء وتركيب أعمدة الإنارة، إلى جانب توفير مسارات مخصصة للمشاة، كما سيتم أيضاً توسعة 5 تقاطعات قائمة بإشارات ضوئية على شارعي الكورنيش ومجلس التعاون، إلى جانب إنشاء تقاطع جديد بإشارات ضوئية بشارع مجلس التعاون بالإضافة إلى توفير مسارات مخصصة للمشاة والدراجات الهوائية.
وسيتم تنفيذ المشروع على مرحلتين متوازيتين تتضمن الأولى تطوير الطرق الداخلية المحيطة بحي قطر للبترول بينما تتضمن المرحلة الثانية تطوير شارع الكورنيش وشارع مجلس التعاون، إلى جانب تحسين الطرق الخارجية المؤدية من وإلى حي قطر للبترول.
وتجدر الإشارة إلى أن الهيئة قد وضعت خطة لإدارة حركة المرور أثناء تنفيذ التحويلات المرورية حتى تقلل إلى أبعد حد ممكن من تأثير أعمال الإنشاء والتطوير بالمنطقة على مستخدمي الطريق.
يقوم بتنفيذ المشروع شركة “البواكير يوني كون” تحت إشراف شركة “الخليج للاستشارات الهندسية والصناعية” ومن المخطط أن يتم الانتهاء من تنفيذ أعمال المشروع في الربع الأول من عام 2021.
