MoPH Enhances Efforts to Raise Awareness of Cancer

Doha: In cooperation with HMC PHCC, Sidra Medicine, Qatar University, Qatar Cancer Society and Qatar Red Crescent, the Ministry of Public Health held a webinar in the attendance of health sector representatives. In addition, the Ministry of Public Health organized many events and activities for World Cancer Day, on February 4, under the theme “Close the care gap.”

The celebration of World Cancer Day involved the active partnership and ongoing cooperation between all agencies working in cancer prevention.

Director of Public Health Department at the Ministry of Public Health Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Thani said during the webinar that this year a three-year global campaign was launched under the theme of “Cancer Care Equity”, in order to raise awareness of the concept of equity and reduce the gap and inequity in cancer health services.

He also added although the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the spectrum of cancer care globally, the Ministry of Public Health continues its efforts to promote health and raise awareness about cancer prevention and refute myths with the efforts of committees and teams through many programs and projects to ensure an equitable distribution of resources and opportunities, providing fair services to all cancer patients and those affected by it.

Amid Abu Hmaidan, Acting Director of the National Cancer Program from the Ministry of Public Health, launched the Cancer Awareness Calendar for 2022, developed through unique cooperation and partnership between leading healthcare institutions to prevent and treat cancer. The calendar also reflects the collaborative efforts of health partners towards achieving the Vision of the National Cancer Framework 2017-2022 and provides an opportunity to unite stakeholders within Qatar to join forces to raise awareness of cancer and reduce the cancer burden on Qatar’s community. The 2022 calendar also identifies months dedicated to cancer awareness based on evidence-based cancer data published by the Qatar National Cancer Register. It also recognizes International Cancer Awareness Days. This annual calendar will also highlight nationally implemented initiatives.

At the panel discussion, Dr. Ussama Al Homsi, Medical Director for Quality, Education and Research at NCCCR, Hamad Medical Cooperation, presented the center’s achievements in 2021, focusing on providing a fair and equitable service to all.

Dr. Kholoud Al Mutawa, Head of the Department of Non-Communicable Diseases, also presented MOPH efforts to raise awareness about cancer and promote healthy lifestyles to prevent cancer reasonably and equitably for all.

Dr. Mohsen Mismar, Head of screening programs monitoring and Evaluation, Primary Health Care Cooperation, shed light on what the Primary Health Care Cooperation did in cancer screening and achievements in 2021 and confirmed the Cooperation’s commitment to providing fair and equitable services to all.

Dr. Hadi Abu Rasheed, Head of the Professional Development and Scientific Research Department at the Qatar Cancer Society, stressed on the society’s strategy of providing fair, equitable, and person-centered services in community cancer awareness, supporting people living with and beyond cancer and their families, research, and building the capacities of health workforce through partnerships with governmental, private and international organizations.

Dr. Ayman Saleh, Division Chief, Fellowship Program, Department of Pediatrics, presented what Sidra Medicine has done in the field of providing fair and equitable services to children living with cancer and their families, which has had a great impact on improving the outcome of treatment.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant disruptions in cancer care services and exacerbated current health inequalities, with a higher risk of an increase in late-stage diagnosed cancers, thereby increasing cancer-related deaths. The 2022-2024 World Cancer Day campaign aims to raise awareness about this “gap in cancer care” and demand greater equity. The campaign calls on the cancer community, governments, and health-care providers to take action commensurate with national needs and resources to reduce inequity and improve access to cancer care services.

الدوحة: أكد الشيخ الدكتور محمد بن حمد آل ثاني مدير إدارة الصحة العامة في وزارة الصحة العامة، أن الوزارة تواصل جهودها في تعزيز الصحة ورفع مستوى الوعي حول الوقاية من السرطان وتفنيد الشائعات حوله، على الرغم من استمرار تأثيرات وباء /كوفيد-19/ على الخدمات المتعلقة بالسرطان على الصعيدين العالمي والمحلى.

وقال الشيخ الدكتور محمد بن حمد آل ثاني، خلال كلمة ألقاها في الندوة الافتراضية التي نظمتها وزارة الصحة حول مرض السرطان بالتعاون مع مؤسستي حمد الطبية، والرعاية الصحية الأولية، وسدرة للطب، وجامعة قطر، والجمعية القطرية للسرطان، والهلال الأحمر القطري، بمشاركة ممثلين عن القطاع الصحي، في إطار الفعاليات والأنشطة المرتبطة باليوم العالمي لمكافحة السرطان الذي يوافق الرابع من فبراير من كل عام، ويقام هذه السنة تحت شعار /رعاية عادلة لمرضي السرطان/، إن تلك الجهود استمرت من خلال عمل مختلف اللجان وفرق العمل المعنية، وعبر العديد من البرامج والمشاريع، مما يوفر خدمات متميزة لكل مرضى السرطان والمتأثرين به.

وأشار إلى الحملة العالمية التي تم إطلاقها مؤخرا وتستمر ثلاث سنوات تحت شعار /رعاية عادلة لمرضى السرطان/، وذلك لزيادة الوعي بمفهوم العدالة والحد من الفجوة وعدم الإنصاف في الخدمات الصحية الخاصة بمرض السرطان.

وخلال الندوة، أعلن السيد عميد أبو حميدان، مدير البرنامج الوطني للسرطان في وزارة الصحة العامة، عن إطلاق التقويم الخاص بالتوعية والوقاية من السرطان للعام 2022، والذي تم وضعه من خلال تعاون فريد وشراكة بين بعض مؤسسات الرعاية الصحية الرائدة في الدولة الناشطة في مجال الوقاية من السرطان وعلاجه، موضحا أن التقويم يتيح فرصة لتوحيد جهود أصحاب المصلحة داخل قطر لرفع مستوى الوعي بهذا المرض والحد من عبء السرطان على المجتمع في قطر.

وذكر أن تقويم عام 2022 يحدد أشهرا مخصصة للتوعية بالسرطان استنادا إلى بيانات الإصابة المستندة إلى الأدلة التي نشرها سجل قطر الوطني للسرطان، كما أنه يعترف بالأيام الدولية للتوعية بالسرطان، ويسلط الضوء على المبادرات المنفذة وطنيا، مشيرا إلى إنجازات البرنامج في الفترة الماضية والتي تعكس التزامه بتقديم خدمات عادلة ومنصفة للجميع.

كما عرض أبو حميدان الخطط المستقبلية لمكافحة السرطان في دولة قطر، مؤكدا أن البرنامج تمكن من إنجاز الخطوط العامة لخطة مكافحة السرطان في دولة قطر للأعوام 2023 – 2030.

ومن ناحيته، استعرض الدكتور أسامة الحمصي المدير الطبي لشؤون الجودة والتعليم والبحث لمركز أبحاث وعلاج السرطان بمؤسسة حمد الطبية، إنجازات المركز خلال عام 2021 بالتركيز على تقديم خدمة عادلة ومنصفة للجميع، في حين استعرضت الدكتورة خلود المطاوعة رئيس قسم الأمراض غير الانتقالية بوزارة الصحة العامة، جهود القسم في التوعية بمرض السرطان وما يقوم به فريق العمل فيما يخص التشجيع على تبني أنماط الحياة الصحية للوقاية من السرطان بصورة عادلة وبها إنصاف للجميع، بينما تحدث الدكتور محسن مسمار رئيس التقييم والمتابعة في برنامج الفحص المبكر بمؤسسة الرعاية الصحية الأولية، عن جهود المؤسسة في مجال الفحص المبكر والإنجازات المحققة في عام 2021، مؤكدا التزام المؤسسة بتقديم خدمات عادلة ومنصفة للجميع.

من جهته، تحدث الدكتور هادي أبو رشيد، رئيس قسم التطوير المهني والبحث العلمي في الجمعية القطرية للسرطان، عن توجه الجمعية وتركيز استراتيجيتها على تقديم خدمات عادلة ومنصفة ومرتكزة على الفرد في مجال التوعية المجتمعية بالسرطان ودعم المتعايشين مع السرطان والناجين منه وأسرهم والبحث العلمي وبناء قدرات العاملين في مجال الصحة من خلال الشراكات مع الجهات الحكومية والخاصة والعالمية، في حين عرض الدكتور أيمن صالح رئيس قسم طب الأطفال ومدير برنامج الزمالة بالقسم في سدرة للطب، ما قام به سدرة للطب في مجال تقديم خدمات عادلة ومنصفة للأطفال من مرضى السرطان وأسرهم مما شكل بالغ الأثر في تحسين نتائج العلاج.

جدير بالذكر أن جائحة /كوفيد-19/ تسببت في حدوث اضطرابات كبيرة في خدمات رعاية مرضى السرطان على مستوى العالم، وأدت إلى تفاقم أوجه التفاوت الحالية في المجال الصحي، مع ارتفاع خطر حدوث زيادة في حالات السرطان التي يتم تشخيصها في مرحلة متأخرة، وبالتالي زيادة حالات الوفيات المرتبطة بهذا المرض.

يشار إلى أن حملة اليوم العالمي للسرطان الممتدة في الفترة ما بين أعوام 2022 – 2024 تهدف إلى رفع مستوى الوعي حول هذه “الفجوة في رعاية مرضى السرطان” والمطالبة بمزيد من الإنصاف.

وتدعو الحملة مجتمع السرطان والحكومات ومقدمي الرعاية الصحية إلى اتخاذ إجراءات تتناسب مع الاحتياجات والموارد الوطنية للحد من عدم الإنصاف، وتحسين فرص الحصول على خدمات رعاية مرضى السرطان.
