No case of Omicron variant detected in Qatar: Dr. Al Rumaihi

Doha: No case of newly identified coronavirus variant Omicron has been detected in Qatar so far, said a health official.
“In Qatar, we are tracking infected cases but so far no case of new variant Omicron is detected in the country,” said Director of the Department of Health Protection and Communicable Disease Control at the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), Dr. Hamad Al Rumaihi.
Speaking in an Al Rayan TV programme yesterday, Al Rumaihi said that the preliminary information suggested that the new variant is strong as its spreads quickly.
“So far, over 10 countries have confirmed the cases of Omicron variant. It is expected that more cases will be detected in coming period as the world has become a global village,” said Dr. Al Rumaihi.
He said that recently the travel movement increased in all over the world therefore more cases of new variant are expected.
“The new COVID-19 variant emerged on November 14 with scientific name of B.1.1.529 which was later renamed Omicron,” said Dr. Al Rumaihi.
“The World Health Organisation (WHO) classified the new B.1.1.529 coronavirus variant as a variant of concern,” said Dr. Al Rumaihi urging people especially those eligible for COVID-19 booster dose to rush to their health center to take the vaccine because the pandemic situation keeps changing in all over the world.
“We have seen several countries around the world reimposing preventive measures due to increase in positive cases of coronavirus as well as because of new variant,” said Dr. Al Rumaihi.
“But the situation in Qatar is stable because of the high vaccination coverage rate which is contributing greatly in curbing the spread of the virus in the country and booster dose of the vaccine will enhance the protection.”
“Qatar is providing safe and effective vaccinations, and the efficiency of vaccination in terms of preventing severe complications and death reaches the highest 95%,” said Dr. Al Rumaihi. He stressed that so far there are no serious cases or complications of vaccination recorded in Qatar.

الدوحة: أكد الدكتور حمد الرميحي، مدير إدارة حماية الصحة ومكافحة الأمراض الانتقالية في وزارة الصحة العامة عدم رصد أي حالات إصابة بالمتحور الجديد من كورونا “أوميكرون”، مشيراً إلى أن الوزارة تعمل على رصد أي حالات مرضية فضلاً عن متابعة الأوضاع العالمية فيما يخص هذا المتحور.
وفيما يخص آخر مستجدات الجرعة الثالثة المعززة من لقاح كورونا في قطر، كشف الدكتور الرميحي خلال استضافته في برنامج تراحيب على قناة الريان الفضائية، عن ارتفاع معدلات إقبال أفراد المجتمع لأخذ الجرعة الثالثة، مشيراً إلى أنه خلال هذا الأسبوع فقط تم إعطاء حوالي 35 ألف جرعة ثالثة.
ودعا الدكتور الرميحي إلى عدم الالتفات إلى الشائعات التي تروج بين الحين والآخر إلى أن التطعيم يسبب مضاعفات صحية، مؤكداً أنه إلى اليوم لا توجد في قطر أي حالات خطيرة أو بمضاعفات أدت إلى الوفاة.
وتابع: بالطبع هناك بعض المضاعفات البسيطة المعروفة للتطعيم مثل وجود ألم في مكان التطعيم أو ارتفاع درجة الحرارة وهذه الأعراض طبيعية ومعروفة.
ونوّه الدكتور الرميحي بوجود برنامج في وزارة الصحة مهمته رصد الآثار الجانبية للتطعيم، وهذا البرنامج يعتمد على ما ترصده المراكز الصحية المنتشرة في الدولة، وكذلك البلاغات التي يقدمها أفراد المجتمع بأنفسهم لوزارة الصحة عن الآثار الجانبية للتطعيم.
ونصح الدكتور الرميحي أفراد المجتمع وخاصة الفئات المؤهلة بأن يبادروا بأخذ الجرعة المعززة لأن الوضع الوبائي على مستوى العالم في تغير، وأضاف: رأينا عدة دول حول العالم أعادت فرض إجراءات صارمة بسبب زيادة الإصابات وكذلك بسبب المتحور الجديد، لكن الوضع في قطر ولله الحمد مستقر، وهذا يرجع إلى نسبة التغطية العالية بالتطعيم حيث وصلنا إلى أعلى من 85% من التطعيم، وهذا يسهم في صد أي انتشار داخل الدولة، كما أن تعزيز هذه الإجراءات يكون بأخذ الجرعة الثالثة المعززة من اللقاح.
وأكد الدكتور الرميحي أن دولة قطر توفر دائماً التطعيمات الآمنة والفعالة كما أن كفاءة التطعيم بالنسبة للوقاية من المضاعفات الشديدة والوفاة تصل إلى أعلى 95%.
وتابع: الجرعة الثالثة هي نفس مكونات الجرعتين الأولى والثانية وبالتالي ندعو إلى تحري الدقة ومعرفة الأخبار من الجهات المعنية “وزارة الصحة”، ونعيد التأكيد أن الوضع مستقر حاليا في قطر، كما أن إجراءات السفر والعودة والحجر الصحي أظهرت مدى أهميتها خاصة في مواجهة متحور دلتا التي أدت إلى تأخير وصوله ومكافحته.
