PHCC Calls on Parents to Vaccinate Their Children Against Seasonal Influenza

Doha: The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has called on parents to vaccinate their children against seasonal influenza, given that vaccination against this disease is the best way to protect against it and its potentially dangerous complications.
Manager, Health Protection, Preventive Health Directorate at PHCC, Dr. Khalid Hamid Elawad said that all children are vulnerable to flu infection, but some much more so than others, and that he recommends vaccines as the best way to build up a child’s immunity by stimulating the immune system to help the child fight against infections.
He explained that the Influenza (flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and lungs, some people, such as young children are at higher risk of serious flu complications and it’s a serious disease, to avoid the possibility of developing serious complications that can lead to hospitalization, all children over six months old should receive a dose of the flu vaccine, children under five, and especially those under two, are most at risk as their immune systems are still developing.
“Many parents have asked why their children need to be vaccinated every year, the answer is that because the flu virus normally changes, or mutates, every season, a new vaccine is designed annually to help the body fight infection from the latest variant, It is usual for flu to break out amongst children through droplets as they cough, sneeze or even just talk near each other at school or kindergarten, those droplets are inhaled, and flu then spreads to parents before moving very quickly through the community, so getting your child vaccinated is very important as it will help to break the chain of transmission,” said Dr. Elawad.
Dr. Elawad said that vaccine like any medical product, vaccines can cause side effects, but the side effects of the flu vaccine are generally mild and go away on their own within a few days, the most common side effect is soreness, redness at the site of the injection, shots of this season’s flu vaccine are now available, free of charge, to all citizens and residents of Qatar and parents can make an appointment for their child’s vaccination at their local designated PHCC health center by contacting PHCC’s customer service, Hayyak, on 107 or, if they have an existing appointment, by asking for it when they visit the doctor.

الدوحة: دعت مؤسسة الرعاية الصحية الأولية أولياء الأمور لأهمية تطعيم أبنائهم ضد الإنفلونزا الموسمية، باعتبار أن التطعيم ضد هذا المرض هو أفضل طريقة للحماية منه ومن مضاعفاته الخطيرة المحتملة.
ونوه الدكتور خالد العوض مدير حماية الصحة بإدارة الصحة الوقائية في مؤسسة الرعاية الصحية الأولية، بأن الأطفال معرضون للإصابة بالإنفلونزا، لكن البعض منهم معرضون للإصابة أكثر من غيرهم، كما أوصى بأخذ اللقاح كأفضل طريقة لبناء مناعة الطفل عن طريق تحفيز جهاز المناعة لمساعدته في مكافحة العدوى.
وأوضح أن الإنفلونزا مرض تنفسي معد تسببه فيروسات الإنفلونزا التي تصيب الأنف والحلق والرئتين، ونبه بأن الأطفال الصغار هم أكثر عرضة لخطر الإصابة بمضاعفات الإنفلونزا الخطيرة.
وأضاف أنه لتجنب احتمال حدوث مضاعفات خطيرة يمكن أن تؤدي إلى دخول المستشفى، يجب أن يتلقى جميع الأطفال الذين تزيد أعمارهم عن ستة أشهر جرعة من لقاح الإنفلونزا، لافتا إلى أن الأطفال دون سن الخامسة، وخاصة ممن تقل أعمارهم عن عامين، هم الأكثر عرضة للخطر لأن جهاز المناعة لدى الطفل ضمن هذه الفئة العمرية يكون غير مكتمل.
وتابع “يتساءل الكثير من الأهل عن سبب حاجة أطفالهم إلى التطعيم كل عام، ويمكننا الإجابة على ذلك بأنه نظرا لأن فيروس الإنفلونزا يتغير أو يتحور في كل موسم، فإنه يتم تطوير اللقاح سنويا لمساعدة الجسم على مكافحة العدوى من أحدث متغير للفيروس”، مشيرا إلى أن الإنفلونزا تنتشر بين الأطفال من خلال الرذاذ أثناء السعال أو العطس أو حتى مجرد التحدث بالقرب من بعضهم البعض في المدرسة أو رياض الأطفال، ويتم استنشاق هذه القطرات، لتنتقل الإنفلونزا إلى الوالدين قبل أن تنتقل بسرعة كبيرة في المجتمع، لذا فإن تطعيم الأطفال أمر مهم للغاية لأنه سيساعد على كسر سلسلة الانتقال.
وذكر أنه كأي منتج طبي، يمكن أن تسبب اللقاحات آثارا جانبية، ولكنها بالنسبة للقاح الإنفلونزا خفيفة بشكل عام وتختفي من تلقاء نفسها في غضون أيام قليلة، مبينا أن الأعراض الجانبية الأكثر شيوعا هي الألم والاحمرار في موقع الحقن.
وأوضح أن لقاح الإنفلونزا متوفر مجانا لجميع المواطنين والمقيمين في قطر، ويمكن للأهل تحديد موعد لتلقيح أطفالهم في المركز الصحي المحدد لهم والتابع لمؤسسة الرعاية الصحية الأولية من خلال الاتصال بخدمة العملاء في المؤسسة /حياك/ على الرقم 107.
