Qatar receives 48k doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine

Qatar received last night 48,000 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine as part of its self-financing agreement with COVAX.
COVAX is a global initiative co-led by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), Gavi (the Vaccines Alliance) and the World Health Organization, which works with governments and manufacturers to accelerate the development, production and equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines around the world.
To date, 1 billion doses of AstraZeneca’s vaccine have been released for supply to more than 170 countries and accounts for approximately two thirds of COVAX supply to date.
Dr. Abdullatif Al Khal, the chair of the National Health Strategic Group on COVID-19 and Head of Infectious Diseases at Hamad Medical Corporation, said: Qatar continues to make good progress in the roll-out of its National COVID-19 Vaccination Program. This recent arrival of AstraZeneca vaccines will contribute to Qatar’s supply and enable it to continue delivering its vaccination program at pace. The vaccines will be administered to eligible members of Qatar’s population as part of the vaccination program which is providing free vaccines to all citizens and residents. This will be an important step to support Qatar’s strategic reserves of vaccine to serve the community. Qatar is a strong supporter of COVAX and is contributing US$20 million to GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, to aid its mission to accelerate global access to COVID-19 vaccines.

AstraZeneca is committed to supplying the vaccine broadly and equitably around the world at no profit during the pandemic period. The supply of the vaccine is estimated to have helped save tens of thousands of lives and to have significantly reduced hospitalisations.

تلقت قطر الليلة الماضية 48000 جرعة من لقاح كوفيد-19 “استرازينيكا” كجزء من اتفاقية التمويل الذاتي مع كوفاكس. والتي هي مبادرة عالمية يقودها بشكل مشترك التحالف من أجل ابتكارات التأهب للأوبئة وتحالف غافي لللقاحات ومنظمة الصحة العالمية، والتي تعمل مع الحكومات والشركات المصنعة لتسريع التطوير والإنتاج والوصول العادل إلى لقاحات كوفيد-19 حول العالم.
وحتى الآن، تم اصدار مليار جرعة من لقاح أسترازينيكا لتزويد أكثر من 170 دولة وذلك يمثل ما يقرب من ثلثي إمدادات كوفاكس حتى الآن.
وقال الدكتور عبد اللطيف الخال، رئيس المجموعة الاستراتيجية الوطنية للتصدي لفيروس كوفيد-19 ورئيس قسم الأمراض المعدية بمؤسسة حمد الطبية: تواصل قطر إحراز تقدم جيد في إطلاق برنامج التطعيم الوطني ضد كوفيد-19.
وسيساهم وصول لقاحات استرازينيكا مؤخراً في إمداد قطر وتمكينها من مواصلة تقديم برنامج التطعيم الخاص بها بوتيرة سريعة.
وسيتم إعطاء اللقاحات للأفراد المؤهلين من سكان قطر كجزء من برنامج التطعيم الذي يوفر لقاحات مجانية لجميع المواطنين والمقيمين.
وستكون هذه خطوة مهمة لدعم الاحتياطيات الإستراتيجية لدولة قطر من اللقاح لخدمة المجتمع.
وتُعد قطر داعماً قوياً لكوفاكس وتساهم بمبلغ 20 مليون دولار أمريكي في تحالف غافي للقاحات، للمساعدة في مهمته لتسريع الوصول العالمي إلى لقاحات كوفيد-19.
وقال سامح الفنجري، الرئيس القطري لقطاع دول الخليج وباكستان بشركة أسترازينيكا: “لقد سعدت برؤية وصول جرعات أخرى من لقاح كوفيد-19 استرازينيكا إلى الدوحة. هذه أخبار رائعة لشعب قطر. وبالنيابة عن استرازينيكا، أود أن أشكر شركائنا في كوفاكس لجعل هذا ممكناً. حيث يعمل جميع الشركاء على مدار الساعة لضمان وصول أكبر عدد ممكن من لقاحات كوفيد-19 إلى أكبر عدد ممكن من الأشخاص في أقرب وقت ممكن. ويوضح هذا الإنجاز أيضاً قيمة عمل الحكومات والصناعة وغيرها معاً لمكافحة الوباء”.
وتلتزم استرازينيكا بتزويد اللقاح على نطاق واسع ومنصف في جميع أنحاء العالم بدون ربح خلال فترة الوباء. وتشير التقديرات إلى أن إمداد اللقاح ساعد في إنقاذ عشرات الآلاف من الأرواح وخفض حالات دخول المستشفى بشكل كبير.
