7 Medals for Arabs at the Tokyo Olympics

Doha: Our champion Fares Ibrahim has succeeded in gifting a new medal to the Arabs at the Tokyo Olympics. The total number of medals achieved for the Arabs so far is 7.
Ibrahim, 23, finished in the 96kg competition, scoring a total of 402 kg (177 snatches and 225 clean & jerks), thus achieving an Olympic record against Venezuelan Giovan Venia Sanchez (177 and 210 kg) and third-placed Georgian Anton Plisnoy (177 and 210 kg).
With Fares Ibrahim’s gold medal, the Arabs have so far won seven medals: gold for young Tunisian swimmer Ahmed Al-Hafnawi in the 400m freestyle, silver for Jordan’s Saleh Al Sharbati in the 80kg taekwondo, Egyptian Saif Issa’s bronze at the same weight, bronze for Egyptian hedaya Malak in the 57kg weight, bronze for Tunisian Mohamed Khalil Jandubi at -58 kg, while Kuwaiti veteran Abdullah Al Rashidi was crowned with a second consecutive skeet bronze.
This is Ibrahim’s second participation after the 2016 Rio Olympics at 85 kg, when he finished in seventh place at 18 years of age.
He qualified for the current games after winning the 96kg gold medal at the Qatar International Cup.
“I am honored to win gold in these games.” Very happy to deliver this honorable performance.” “We beat them at Snatch, and we got in comfortable in Clean & Jerks. The Georgia camp and my father’s exercises played their part. We’ve been preparing for the Tokyo Olympics for four years.”
Our champion Moataz Barchem in the high jump is one of the candidates for gold in Tokyo, hoping to become the eighth for Qatar and the Arabs.

الدوحة: نجح بطلنا الرباع فارس إبراهيم في إهداء ميدالية جديدة للعرب في أولمبياد طوكيو.. لتصبح مجموع الميداليات التي تحققت للعرب حتى الآن 7 ميداليات .
وتفوّق إبراهيم (23 عاماً) بمنافسات وزن 96 كلغ، مسجلاً مجموع 402 كلغ (177 خطفاً و225 نتراً) محققاً رقماً أولمبياً، أمام الفنزويلي جيوفان فاينيا سانشيس (177 و210 كلغ)، والجورجي صاحب المركز الثالث أنتون بليسنوي (177 و210 كلغ).
وبذهبية فارس إبراهيم ، حصد العرب حتى الآن سبع ميداليات: ذهبية للسبّاح التونسي الشاب أحمد الحفناوي في سباق 400 م حرة، فضية للأردني صالح الشرباتي في وزن -80 كلغ في التايكواندو، برونزية المصري سيف عيسى في الوزن عينه، برونزية المصرية هداية ملاك في وزن -57 كلغ، برونزية التونسي محمد خليل الجندوبي في وزن -58 كلغ، فيما توّج في الرماية المخضرم الكويتي عبدالله الرشيدي مع برونزية السكيت للمرة الثانية توالياً.
وهذه المشاركة الثانية لفارس إبراهيم بعد أولمبياد ريو 2016 في وزن 85 كلغ، عندما حلّ في سن الثامنة عشرة في المركز السابع.
وتأهل إلى الألعاب الحالية بعد إحرازه ذهبية وزن 96 كلغ في كأس قطر الدولية.
وقال فارس إبراهيم: “يشرفني احراز ذهبية في هذه الألعاب. سعيد جداً لتقديم هذا الأداء المشرف”. وتابع المتوج بالذهبية: “تفوّقنا عليهم في الخطف، ودخلنا مرتاحين في النتر. معسكر جورجيا وتمارين الوالد لعبا دورهما. نستعد لأولمبياد طوكيو منذ أربع سنوات”.
يذكر أن بطلنا معتز برشم في الوثب العالي أحد المرشحين لنيل ذهبية في طوكيو، على أمل أن تصبحالثامنة لدولة قطر والعرب.
