Qatar Petroleum Signs SPA to Supply China with 1 MTPA of LNG for Ten Years

Doha: Qatar Petroleum today entered into a long-term Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with Shell for the supply of 1 million tons per annum (MTPA) of LNG to the People’s Republic of China for ten years. LNG deliveries will commence in January 2022 to various LNG terminals in China.

Commenting on this occasion, HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs, the President and CEO of Qatar Petroleum Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi said, “We are pleased to enter into this new LNG SPA with our trusted partner, Shell. I am especially delighted that this agreement will meet part of the demand of Shells end customers in China, thereby further supplementing Qatars contribution to meeting China’s growing energy needs.”

HE Minister Al Kaabi concluded his remarks by saying, “This SPA further highlights our ability to meet the requirements of our customers and partners across the world. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the management and staff of Shell for the successful conclusion of this SPA, which is another testament to our long and fruitful partnership. I would also like to thank HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the CEO of Qatargas, and his team for their valuable contributions to reinforce Qatars position in the LNG market, and meet the needs of our customers.”

Qatar Petroleum plans to supply the LNG volumes contracted under this agreement from its Qatargas 1 venture, which will become 100% owned by Qatar Petroleum as of January 1, 2022.

China is considered a major customer for the State of Qatar and a strategic partner in the energy sector. With the conclusion of this agreement, China will be supplied with approximately 12 MPTA of LNG under long term SPAs from Qatar.

الدوحة: أبرمت قطر للبترول، يوم الأمس، اتفاقية بيع وشراء طويلة الأمد مع شركة /شل/، تزود بموجبها جمهورية الصين الشعبية بمليون طن سنويا من الغاز الطبيعي المسال لمدة عشرة أعوام، حيث سيبدأ التسليم في يناير 2022 إلى عدد من محطات الغاز الطبيعي المسال في هذا البلد.

وبهذه المناسبة، صرح سعادة المهندس سعد بن شريدة الكعبي، وزير الدولة لشؤون الطاقة، العضو المنتدب والرئيس التنفيذي لقطر للبترول، قائلا: “نحن سعداء بالتوقيع على هذه الاتفاقية مع شريكتنا الموثوقة شركة /شل/.. ويسعدني بشكل خاص أن تلبي هذه الاتفاقية جزءا من طلبات عملاء الشركة في الصين، وبالتالي تعزيز مساهمات دولة قطر في تلبية احتياجات هذا البلد المتزايدة من الطاقة”.

واختتم سعادة الوزير تصريحه قائلا: “تسلط هذه الاتفاقية المزيد من الضوء على قدرتنا الكبيرة في تلبية احتياجات شركائنا وعملائنا في جميع أنحاء العالم”، مضيفا “أود أن اغتنم هذه الفرصة لتوجيه الشكر لإدارة وموظفي شركة /شل/ على إتمام هذه الصفقة بنجاح، وهو ما يعد دليلا آخر على قوة شراكتنا الطويلة والمثمرة.. كما أتوجه بالشكر والتقدير لسعادة الشيخ خالد بن خليفة آل ثاني، الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة قطر غاز، ولجميع القائمين على إدارتها لما يبذلونه من جهود مقدرة لتعزيز مكانة دولة قطر في سوق الغاز الطبيعي المسال، وتلبية احتياجات عملائنا الأساسيين من الغاز”.

وتعتزم قطر للبترول تزويد كميات الغاز الطبيعي المسال المتعاقد عليها بموجب هذه الاتفاقية من مشروع قطر غاز (1)، الذي سيصبح مملوكا بنسبة 100 بالمئة من قبل قطر للبترول اعتبارا من الأول من يناير 2022.

وتعد جمهورية الصين عميلا رئيسيا وشريكا إستراتيجيا لدولة قطر في قطاع الطاقة، إذ يبلغ مجموع ما سيتم إمداد الصين به من الغاز الطبيعي المسال القطري بموجب عقود طويلة الأمد، بما فيها هذه الاتفاقية، حوالي 12 مليون طن سنويا.
