Magnetic ball toys threaten children’s lives

Doha: Doctors and parents warned of the dangers of increasing cases of children swallowing beads or magnetic balls, which lead to gastric and intestinal blockages in the digestive system, especially since they are high-energy pieces that attract each other strongly and leave a bullet-like effect, they point out that the attraction and adhesion of the beads within the digestive system put pressure on parts of the stomach or intestine wall, resulting in perforations or bleeding, and may lead to adhesions or blockages that may cause an explosion in the intestine.
In remarks to Al-Raya, the doctors called on parents to immediately go to any emergency department in case of suspicion that the child swallowed one of the magnetic pieces, noting that getting rid of these pieces requires surgery to extract them and in many cases part of the intestine is removed.
They demanded that these games be banned and prohibited from being traded or sold to those under the age of 14, especially since this game has been banned in a number of countries of the world after increasing cases of swallowing or inhaling these toys.

الدوحة: حذّر أطباء وأولياء أمور من مخاطر تزايد حالات ابتلاع الأطفال قطع الخرز أو الكرات المغناطيسيّة، التي تؤدي إلى انسدادات معدية ومعوية بالجهاز الهضمي، خاصة أنها قطع عالية الطاقة تجتذب بعضها بعضًا بقوة وتترك أثرًا أشبه بالطلق الناري، مُشيرين إلى أن تجاذب والتصاق الخرز داخل الجهاز الهضمي يضغط على أجزاء من جدار المعدة أو الأمعاء، ما ينتج عنه ثقوب أو نزيف، وقد تؤدّي إلى التصاقات أو انسدادات قد تسبب انفجارًا بالأمعاء.
ودعا الأطباء، في تصريحات ل الراية، أولياء الأمور إلى التوجّه فورًا إلى أي من أقسام الطوارئ حال الشك بابتلاع الطفل إحدى القطع المغناطيسية، مُشيرين إلى أن التخلص من تلك القطع يستدعي إجراء عمليات جراحية لاستخراجها وفي كثير من الحالات يتم استئصال جزء من الأمعاء.
وطالبوا بضرورة منع هذه اللعبة وحظر تداولها أو بيعها لمن هم أقل من 14 عامًا، خاصة أن هذه اللعبة تم منعها في عدد من دول العالم بعد تزايد حالات ابتلاع أو استنشاق هذه الألعاب.
