‘Qatar Economic Forum, Powered by Bloomberg Highlights Qatar as Economic Player’

Doha: HE Minister of Commerce and Industry and Acting Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari affirmed that Qatar Economic Forum, powered by Bloomberg, which starts on Monday via videoconferencing, constitutes an opportunity to shed light on the efforts of the State of Qatar to consolidate its position as an influential economic player in the region and a leading investment destination to value-added projects, especially in sectors that serve Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2018-2022 to establish a diversified and competitive knowledge-based economy.

In an interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA), HE the Minister stated that during the forum, various economic policies that were adopted to lay down economic plans and foresee the future, anticipate the future and maintain the stability and balance of the country’s economic growth will be discussed. He said that proactive thinking and speed of adaptation to changes constituted a basic pillar of the country’s plans and programs, and flexibility was adopted to be the main approach in dealing with various regional and international challenges, especially during the current situation witnessed by all countries of the world following the outbreak of the pandemic and the drop in oil and gas prices.

He pointed out that the forum will shed light on the business environment provided by the state and the available investment opportunities, and review the developments that have been made in implementing major development projects, especially projects related to hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the efforts of the State of Qatar to consolidate commitment to the global multilateral trading system, enhance economic openness and strengthening cooperation with various trading partners around the world.

He affirmed that the organizing committee of the Qatar Economic Forum, Powered by Bloomberg, has completed all its preparations to organize the first edition of this important international event, which is the first of its kind in the region, given the wide international participation that it will witness, especially from head of the states and CEOs, as well as inspiring personalities and decision-makers to exchange views and discuss the current issues facing the various economies of the world.

HE the Minister added that this virtual event aims to prepare plans that support the growth of the global economy during the post-pandemic stage, and to rethink the prospects for the global economy through the lens of the Middle East and North Africa region, pointing out that the importance of the Qatar Economic Forum lies in its ability to take advantage of the current situation to create a new platform for innovation and dialogue between countries to chart a new path, re-imagine the priorities of the global economy and thus build a better future for all peoples.

On the most prominent issues and topics discussed by the forum, HE Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari stated that the agenda will be centered around six main pillars over three days: “Technology Advanced” takes a closer look at permanent changes to the human-technology nexus; “A Sustainable World” will explore the intersection of capitalism and climate; “Markets and Investing” poses the question of whether investors, in their inexorable pursuit of growth opportunities, can shape a more resilient global economy; “Power and Trade Flows” gathers global power brokers to share their vision of the road ahead; “The Changing Consumer” examines the future of commerce; and “A More Inclusive World” will offer ideas for healing fissures in a post-pandemic society.

He stated that the forum will witness the participation of more than 100 speakers from all over the world, including heads of state and CEOs, as well as influential voices and decision-makers in the fields of finance, economics, investment, technology, energy, education, sports and climate in an effort to identify opportunities, present solutions and rethink the global economic landscape through the lens of the Middle East, in addition to the participation of more than 2,000 people from around the world. 

On the possibility of making the forum an annual Qatari international platform to discuss global economic challenges and comprehensive development issues, HE Minister of Commerce and Industry and Acting Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari said that the State of Qatar is one of the most important and leading destinations in the field of hosting and organizing important global forums and events and that it has a proven track record of hosting international events, and provides facilities and infrastructure designed and built according to the highest international standards.

HE the Minister added that the success witnessed by the various global events organized in Doha reflects the state’s ability to host international meetings and platforms that bring together the leaders from around the world, especially in light of the policies pursued by the state through the adoption of knowledge, creativity and innovation as a basis for growth and development in various fields. He continued by saying that the organization of Qatar Economic Forum is an important part of the country’s efforts towards consolidating its position as a pivotal commercial center for the business sector in the world, where thought leaders and experts will discuss innovative and effective solutions and mechanisms to address comprehensive development issues by providing an opportunity to exchange ideas to overcome various global economic challenges and build a better future for future generations.

HE Minister of Commerce and Industry and Acting Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari looked forward that this forum will be an annual international platform that brings together leaders, heads of government and experts from around the world to develop innovative and new perceptions of issues related to the global economy.

In the same context, HE the Minister stressed that organizing the forum in Doha demonstrates Qatar’s strategic position and ability to link the two continents of Asia and Africa, which in turn will also represent a focus for important discussions among the participants on the need to consolidate and deepen means of cooperation and communication as a means to promote economic recovery.

In response to the question about the forum’s role in discussing development issues in poor countries, HE the Minister explained that Qatar Economic Forum constitutes an international platform during which current global issues will be discussed, especially based on the perceptions of countries in the Middle East and North Africa, as well as ways to enhance sustainable development plans and projects for the people of this region and develop solutions to support the recovery of the global economy from the COVID-19 consequences to meet the aspirations of all countries, especially poor and developing countries. He added that the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated the fragility of the development systems prevailing in the world, whether at health, economic or political levels. He pointed out that the COVID-19 pandemic revealed the existence of institutional and structural weaknesses within government systems in developed and poor countries alike.

HE the Minister added that the forum will continue to mobilize efforts and consolidate frameworks of cooperation and international solidarity to devise effective solutions to comprehensive development issues and chart future directions that will bridge the gap between developed and developing countries, especially in the right to obtain a vaccine through its fair and comprehensive distribution in a manner that lays the foundations for building a global social and economic system integrated to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

الدوحة: أكد سعادة السيد علي بن أحمد الكواري وزير التجارة والصناعة والقائم بأعمال وزير المالية أن منتدى قطر الاقتصادي بالتعاون مع /بلومبيرغ/ الذي سينطلق اليوم /الاثنين/ عبر تقنية الاتصال المرئي، يشكل فرصة لتسليط الضوء على جهود دولة قطر في ترسيخ مكانتها كلاعب اقتصادي مؤثر في المنطقة وكوجهة استثمارية رائدة وجاذبة للمشاريع ذات القيمة المضافة، وخاصة في القطاعات التي تخدم رؤيتها الوطنية 2030 واستراتيجية التنمية الوطنية 2018 2022 وذلك بهدف ارساء اقتصاد متنوع وتنافسي مبني على المعرفة.

وأوضح سعادته في حوار مع وكالة الأنباء القطرية /قنا/ أنه سيتم خلال المنتدى التطرق لمختلف السياسات الاقتصادية التي تم اعتمادها لإرساء الخطط الاقتصادية واستشراف المستقبل، والمحافظة على استقرار وتوازن النمو الاقتصادي للدولة، وقال “شكل التفكير الاستباقي وسرعة التأقلم مع المتغيرات ركيزةً أساسية لخطط وبرامج الدولة كما تم اعتماد المرونة لتكون نهجًا رئيسيًا في التعامل مع مختلف التحديات الإقليمية والدولية لاسيما خلال الوضع الراهن الذي شهدته كافة دول العالم إثر تفشي الوباء وانخفاض أسعار النفط والغاز”.

وأشار إلى أن المنتدى سيسلط الضوء على بيئة الأعمال التي توفرها الدولة والفرص الاستثمارية المتاحة واستعراض التطورات التي تم إحرازها في تنفيذ المشروعات التنموية الكبرى ولاسيما المشاريع المرتبطة باستضافة فعاليات كأس العالم لكرة القدم 2022 وجهود دولة قطر في سبيل تكريس الالتزام بالنظام التجاري العالمي متعدد الأطراف وتعزيز الانفتاح الاقتصادي وتوطيد أواصر التعاون مع مختلف الشركاء التجاريين حول العالم.

وأكد أن اللجنة المنظمة لمنتدى قطر الاقتصادي بالتعاون مع بلومبيرغ استكملت كافة استعداداتها لتنظيم النسخة الأولى من هذا الحدث الدولي الهام الذي يعد الأول من نوعه في المنطقة بالنظر إلى المشاركة الدولية الواسعة التي سيشهدها، لا سيما من قبل قادة الدول والرؤساء التنفيذيين، فضلاً عن الشخصيات الملهمة وصنّاع القرار وذلك لتبادل الآراء وبحث القضايا الراهنة التي تواجهها مختلف اقتصادات العالم.

وأضاف “تهدف هذه القمة الافتراضية إلى إعداد الخطط الداعمة لنمو الاقتصاد العالمي خلال مرحلة ما بعد الجائحة، وإعادة التفكير في آفاق الاقتصاد العالمي من خلال عدسة منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا”.

ومضى إلى القول “تكمن أهمية منتدى قطر الاقتصادي في قدرته على الاستفادة من الوضع الراهن لخلق منصة جديدة للابتكار والحوار بين الدول لرسم مسار جديد، وإعادة تصور أولويات الاقتصاد العالمي وبالتالي بناء مستقبل أفضل لكافة الشعوب”.

وحول أبرز القضايا والموضوعات التي يناقشها المنتدى، أفاد سعادة السيد علي بن أحمد الكواري أن جدول أعمال المنتدى والذي يقام على مدار ثلاثة أيام يتضمن ستة محاور رئيسية، وهي: /التكنولوجيا المتقدمة/ والتي ستسلط الضوء على التغييرات الدائمة في العلاقة بين الإنسان والتكنولوجيا، و/عالم مستدام/ والذي سيستكشف تقاطع الرأسمالية مع المناخ، و/الأسواق والاستثمار/ التي تناقش قدرة المستثمرين، في سعيهم الحثيث إلى فرص النمو، على تشكيل اقتصاد عالمي أكثر مرونة، و/تدفقات الطاقة والتجارة/ التي تجمع بين وسطاء الطاقة العالميين لمشاركة رؤيتهم المستقبلية، و/المستهلك المتغير/ الذي يتناول مستقبل التجارة، و/عالم أكثر شمولاً/ لتقديم أفكاراً حول تعافي المجتمعات ما بعد الجائحة.

وذكر أن المنتدى سيشهد مشاركة أكثر من 100 متحدث من كافة أنحاء العالم من رؤساء دول ورؤساء تنفيذيين، فضلاً عن شخصيات ملهمة وصنّاع القرار في مجالات التمويل والاقتصاد والاستثمار والتكنولوجيا والطاقة والتعليم والرياضة والمناخ، مضيفا “سيعمل المشاركون معاً لتحديد الفرص وتقديم الحلول وإعادة التفكير في المشهد الاقتصادي العالمي من منظور الشرق الأوسط ، فضلاً عن مشاركة أكثر من 2000 شخص من حول العالم” .

وعن مدى إمكانية تحويل المنتدى إلى منصة قطرية دولية سنوية لمناقشة التحديات الاقتصادية العالمية وقضايا التنمية الشاملة، قال سعادة السيد علي بن أحمد الكواري وزير التجارة والصناعة والقائم بأعمال وزير المالية “تعتبر دولة قطر واحدة من أهم الوجهات الرائدة في مجال استضافة وتنظيم المنتديات والفعاليات العالمية الهامة في كافة المجالات وخاصة منها المجالات الرياضية والسياسية والاقتصادية والثقافية، وتتمتع بسجل حافل باستضافة الفعاليات الدولية، وتوفر مرافق وبنى تحتية مصممة ومشيدة وفقا لأرقى المعايير الدولية”.

وأضاف “يترجم النجاح الذي شهدته مختلف الفعاليات العالمية التي تم تنظيمها في الدوحة، قدرة الدولة على استضافة اللقاءات والمنصات الدولية والتي تجمع أهم العقول والخبرات من شتى أنحاء العالم لا سيما في ظل السياسات التي انتهجتها الدولة من خلال اعتماد المعرفة والإبداع والابتكار كأساس للنمو والتطوير في مختلف المجالات”.

واستطرد قائلا “ويعد تنظيم منتدى قطر الاقتصادي جزءا هاما من جهود الدولة نحو ترسيخ مكانتها كمركز تجاري محوري لقطاع الأعمال في العالم، حيث سيقوم قادة الفكر والخبراء ببحث الحلول والآليات المبتكرة والناجعة لمعالجة قضايا التنمية الشاملة وذلك من خلال إتاحة الفرصة لتبادل الأفكار والحوار البناء حول مسار العمل المشترك لرفع مختلف التحديات الاقتصادية العالمية وبناء مستقبل أفضل للأجيال القادمة”.

وتابع سعادة السيد علي بن أحمد الكواري وزير التجارة والصناعة والقائم بأعمال وزير المالية “نتطلع إلى أن يمثل هذا المنتدى منصة دولية سنوية تجمع قادة ورؤساء الحكومات والخبراء من مختلف انحاء العالم لوضع تصورات مبتكرة وجديدة للقضايا التي تعنى بالاقتصاد العالمي”.

وفي السياق ذاته، أكد سعادته أن تنظيم المنتدى في مدينة الدوحة يترجم موقع دولة قطر الاستراتيجي وقدرتها على الربط بين قارتي آسيا وأفريقيا، والذي بدوره أيضاً سيُمثل محوراً لمناقشات هامة بين المشاركين حول ضرورة توطيد وتعميق سبل التعاون والتواصل كوسيلة لتعزيز الانتعاش والتعافي الاقتصادي”.

وفي رده على سؤال بشأن دور المنتدى في مناقشة قضايا التنمية في الدول الفقيرة، أوضح سعادته أن هذا المنتدى الاقتصادي يشكل منصة دولية سيتم خلالها مناقشة القضايا العالمية الراهنة وخاصة بناء على تصورات دول منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا، فضلا عن بحث سبل تعزيز خطط ومشاريع التنمية المستدامة لشعوب هذه المنطقة ووضع الحلول الكفيلة بدعم تعافي الاقتصاد العالمي من تبعات الجائحة بما يلبي تطلعات كافة الدول ولا سيما الدول الفقيرة والنامية، حيث بيّنت جائحة كوفيد-19 هشاشة النظم التنموية السائدة في العالم سواء على المستوى الصحي أو الاقتصادي أو السياسي.

ولفت إلى أن جائحة كورونا كشفت عن وجود نقاط ضعف مؤسسية وهيكلية داخل الأنظمة الحكومية في الدول المتقدمة والفقيرة على حد سواء، وتعمقت هذه الأزمة لدى الدول الفقيرة لعدم قدرتها على الاستجابة بشكل فعال للطلب المتزايد على المستويين الصحي والاجتماعي في ظل غياب الموارد المالية والبنى التحتية اللازمة.

وتابع “سنعمل من خلال المنتدى على حشد الجهود وتوطيد أطر التعاون والتضامن الدولي لابتكار حلول فعالة لقضايا التنمية الشاملة ورسم التوجهات المستقبلية الكفيلة برأب الفجوة بين الدول المتقدمة والنامية، خاصة ًفي حق الحصول على اللقاح من خلال توزيعه بشكل عادل وشامل بما يؤسس لبناء نظام اجتماعي واقتصادي عالمي متكامل من شأنه أن يحقق أهداف التنمية العالمية المستدامة 2030”.
