NMoQ Celebrates Local Collectors as Part of Mal Lawal 3 Exhibition

Doha: Following the success of the 2012 and 2014 editions, Mal Lawal 3, a temporary exhibition celebrating local collectors, is currently on view at the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ). Sponsored by Ooredoo and running until the end of July, the third edition of Mal Lawal of the past’ in Arabic focuses on the stories and personal collections of more than two dozen Qatari collectors, highlighting their passion for art, culture and heritage.

Mal Lawal provides a platform that brings together private collectors and helps support and further establish the practice of collecting in Qatar. The exhibition gives private collectors the opportunity to play a key role in developing Qatar’s cultural sector and preserving its rich heritage and traditions.

The tremendous passion for collecting while simultaneously safeguarding the past lies at the very heart of the exhibition. The objects generously loaned for display from collectors in Qatar evoke emotions, memories, meaning and values. Their collections narrate personal and local stories while highlighting collecting practices and acting as a catalyst for inspiration, collaboration and engagement in thought-provoking discussions.

The exhibition comprises four highlight collectors, including celebrated Qatari collector Tariq Al Jaidah’s collection of Middle Eastern objects featuring Arabic calligraphy. Al Jaidah’s interest in the influence of Islamic motifs on regional art is the focus of his display. Abdulla Lahdan Al Mohannadi’s collection of Gulf and Qatari heritage objects will also be on view. Qatari engineer, author and collector Ibrahim bin Yousuf Al Fakhro is displaying calligraphy and items from the Islamic era, while avid collector and one of the founders of the former Qatar Philatelic and Numismatic Club, Hussain Al Ismail, has supplied his assortment of rare stamps and banknotes for viewing. The car edition of the exhibition, on view at Museum Baraha – Mawater Gallery and inaugurated last December, features the private collections of Salem Saeed Al Mohannadi and Omar Hussain Alfardan. The classic vehicles on show tell the story of the local passion for automobile collecting that can be traced back to the arrival of the first shipments of cars into Qatar in the mid-1950s.

A virtual exhibition — Mal Lawal 3: Documenting Heritage will run in parallel with the main collectors’ showcase. The online instalment, held in partnership with the Google Arts & Culture platform, highlights the role of Qatar’s prominent private collectors in preserving memories, promoting learning and making art and culture accessible to the wider community.

As an entity, Mal Lawal’ which runs until 31 July has evolved into a platform that transcends museum walls to record local heritage, enhance collecting practices, and promote collectors and their knowledge across Qatar while fostering dialogue between collectors and the museum community. الدوحة: يحتفي متحف قطر الوطني بجامعي المقتنيات القطريين خلال معرض /مال لوّل 3/، وذلك بعد نجاح النسختين السابقتين في عامي 2012 و2014.

وتلقي النسخة الثالثة من /مال لوّل/، وهو معرض مؤقت مفتوح حاليا في متحف قطر الوطني برعاية شركة /Ooredoo/ ، الضوء على القصص والمجموعات الشخصية لأكثر من 26 من هواة جمع المقتنيات، واثنين من هواة جمع السيارات، وتبرز شغفهم بالفنون والثقافة والتراث.

ويشكل معرض /مال لوّل/، تعني من الماضي، منصة يلتقي فيها هواة جمع المقتنيات من الأفراد، ويسهم في دعم وتعزيز هذه الهواية في قطر، حيث أن المعرض يتيح فرصة أمام الأفراد من جامعي المقتنيات الخاصة ليضطلعوا بدور جوهري في تنمية القطاع الثقافي للدولة والحفاظ على تراثها الغني وتقاليدها العريقة.

وبهذه المناسبة، قالت سعادة الشيخة آمنة بنت عبدالعزيز بن جاسم آل ثاني مديرة متحف قطر الوطني “يسر متحف قطر الوطني الكشف عن النسخة الثالثة من هذا المعرض المميز للمقتنيات، الذي يتيح لنا فرصة الاحتفاء بجامعي المقتنيات الخاصة في قطر، ومعرفة الحقائق والقصص الملهمة التي تقف وراء اقتناء كل مجموعة منها”، مضيفة “كما نود أن نشكر شركة /Ooredoo/ على رعايتها السخية لهذا المعرض الذي يسهم في إبراز الثقافة المادية لدولة قطر، وتعريف المجتمع بأكمله بهواية جمع المقتنيات، وهي هواية مجزية ولا غنى عنها”.

ويسلط المعرض الضوء على الشغف الهائل بجمع المقتنيات، وفي الوقت نفسه يسهم في دعم مساعي المقتنيين في قطر للحفاظ على عبق الماضي، فالقطع المعروضة التي أعارها هؤلاء المقتنيين عن طيب خاطر لعرضها في المتحف تثير المشاعر والذكريات، وتحمل في طياتها قيما ومعان شتى، إذ تروي المجموعات قصصا شخصية وشعبية، وتلقي الضوء على هواية جمع المقتنيات، كما تعد عاملا محفزا للإلهام، والتعاون والمشاركة في مناقشات جادة وحافلة بالأفكار.

ويضم المعرض مجموعات لأربعة من جامعي المقتنيات البارزين، منها مجموعة طارق الجيدة، المقتني الشهير، التي تتكون من تحف شرق أوسطية تعرض الخط العربي، ويركز الجيدة خلال مشاركته على الزخارف الإسلامية وتأثيرها على الفن في المنطقة، ومجموعة عبدالله لحدان المهندي، التي تضم قطعا تراثية قطرية وخليجية.

كما يعرض المهندس القطري، والكاتب والمتحمس للأعمال الفنية إبراهيم بن يوسف الفخرو مجموعة من لوحات للخط العربي وعدد من المقتنيات الإسلامية، بينما يقوم الجامع الشغوف وأحد مؤسسي نادي قطر للطوابع والنقود، حسين رجب الإسماعيل، بعرض مجموعته المتنوعة من الطوابع والأوراق النقدية النادرة.

وتقام نسخة السيارات الكلاسيكية من المعرض، التي افتتحت في ديسمبر الماضي، في براحة المتحف مواتر جاليري، حيث تضم المجموعات الخاصة من السيارات لكل من السيد سالم سعيد المهندي والسيد عمر حسين الفردان.

وتسرد السيارات الكلاسيكية الموجودة في المعرض قصة شغف أهل قطر بجمع السيارات، والذي يعود إلى وصول الشحنات الأولى من السيارات إلى قطر في منتصف خمسينيات القرن الماضي.
