Minister of Health: We succeeded in controlling the second wave of Coronavirus

Doha: HE Minister of Public Health Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari today visited Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital (HMGH) as the facility prepares to recommence normal services following its role as a COVID-19 facility since the end of March 2020.

“One of the key elements of our COVID-19 strategy since the start of the pandemic has been to expand hospital capacity to ensure every COVID-19 patient needing medical treatment can access the care they need without delay. Along with the Communicable Disease Center, Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital was one of the first of seven hospitals to be designated as COVID-19 facilities over the past 15 months and its dedicated teams have cared for more than 10,344 patients since the start of the pandemic. Our ability to expand intensive care capacity at Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital, and across HMC’s hospital network, has been a key factor in Qatar having one of the lowest COVID-19 mortality rates in the world. This is a truly remarkable achievement and testament to the commitment and expertise of every member of staff at the hospital,” said HE Dr. Al Kuwari.

“The reopening of normal healthcare services at Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital, following recent recommencement of services at the Surgical Speciality Center and Al Wakra Hospital, comes as we continue to see fewer people admitted to hospital with COVID-19. Thanks to the community’s adherence to the precautionary measures, and the fast roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccination program, we have successfully suppressed the second wave of the virus and continue to see the number of new daily cases, and hospitalizations, fall,” she added.

During the visit, the Minister met with the senior leadership team at HMGH and presented a plaque of appreciation to formally recognize the vital role its staff have played. Her Excellency also met with three recovered COVID-19 patients who had been admitted to the hospital and successfully treated for their symptoms. The patients expressed their satisfaction at the high-quality of care they had received and thanked the hospital’s care teams.

HMC’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Abdulla Al Ansari, said: “Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital has been a vital element of our COVID-19 strategy. In March 2020, the teams worked incredibly hard to transform this general hospital into a COVID-19 facility and significantly expand its capacity. The hospital increased its normal capacity from 102 acute care beds to a maximum of 557 acute beds, while also increasing intensive care capacity from 16 beds to 230 ICU beds.”

“Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital has cared for the sickest patients with the most complex conditions, as well as the most surgical specialties for COVID-19 patients. The hospital has been supported by staff and resources from across HMC for the past 15 months in what has been a system-wide effort. I am incredibly proud of everyone involved in the transformation of this hospital into a COVID-19 facility and in the delivery high-quality care to thousands of patients throughout this pandemic. They are all healthcare heroes,” said Dr. Al Ansari.

Since March 2020, more than 3,280 patients have been admitted to this hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. These patients have been affected by severe complications due to the virus and have required life-saving medical treatment from our intensive care teams. More people were admitted to intensive care units throughout the second wave than during the first wave, due to the increased severity of new variants and this put increased pressure on our system.

Executive Director of Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital, Hussein Al Ishaq, explained how the hospital achieved a sixfold increase in its bed capacity by setting up field hospitals on the campus. “Very early on in the pandemic we identified the need to significantly expand our hospital capacity to meet the increased demand for beds. This required an innovative approach and we quickly began the planning and construction of several field hospitals. These field hospitals have not only played an essential role in our pandemic response over the past 15 months, but they will remain in place and provide additional capacity for any future health crisis that we might face.”

“I would like to thank the Minister of Public Health for the leadership and direction that she has given us throughout this pandemic and convey my gratitude and admiration to every one of the 2,400 staff who have worked tirelessly in this hospital throughout this unprecedented time,” added Al Ishaq.

With the hospital’s role of caring solely for COVID-19 patients now at an end, HMGH will return to normal service provision delivering a wide range of high-quality medical services to people living in the Industrial Area and surrounding areas.

الدوحة: قالت سعادة الدكتورة حنان محمد الكواري وزير الصحة العامة، إن من أهم العناصر الرئيسية في الاستراتيجية المتبعة مع فيروس كورونا /كوفيد-19/ منذ بداية الجائحة هو زيادة سعة المستشفيات لضمان حصول كل مريض مصاب بهذا الفيروس على الرعاية اللازمة دون تأخير.

وأوضحت سعادتها لدى زيارتها يوم الأمس مستشفى حزم مبيريك العام، الذي يستعد لاستئناف خدماته الصحية العادية قريبا بعد أن كان مخصصا كمرفق لرعاية مرضى كورونا /كوفيد-19/ منذ نهاية شهر مارس من العام الماضي، أنه إلى جانب مركز الأمراض الانتقالية، كان مستشفى حزم مبيريك العام من أوائل المستشفيات السبعة التي تم تخصيصها لرعاية مرضى كورونا /كوفيد-19/ على مدار الخمسة عشر شهرا الماضية، مشيرة إلى أن الفرق المتخصصة بالمستشفى قامت بتقديم الرعاية لما يزيد عن 10,344 مريض منذ بداية هذه الجائحة.

ونوهت في هذا السياق بأن القدرة على زيادة سعة وحدة العناية المركزة بمستشفى حزم مبيريك العام، وعبر شبكة مستشفيات مؤسسة حمد الطبية، مثلت عاملا رئيسيا لتحقيق دولة قطر واحدا من أدنى معدلات الوفاة بسبب فيروس كورونا /كوفيد-19/ عالميا، ما يعد إنجازا رائعا وشهادة على التزام وخبرة كل فرد من العاملين في المستشفى.

وبينت سعادة وزير الصحة العامة أن إعادة تشغيل خدمات الرعاية الصحية مرة أخرى في مستشفى حزم مبيريك العام بعد استئناف الخدمات مؤخرا في مركز الجراحة التخصصي ومستشفى الوكرة، يتزامن مع تناقص أعداد المرضى الذين يتم إدخالهم إلى المستشفى جراء الإصابة بفيروس كورونا /كوفيد-19/، وذلك بسبب التزام أفراد المجتمع بالإجراءات الاحترازية والتطبيق السريع لبرنامج التطعيم “حيث نجحنا في السيطرة على الموجة الثانية من الفيروس، مع استمرار عدد الحالات اليومية الجديدة والحالات التي تتطلب الدخول إلى المستشفى في الانخفاض”.

وقد التقت سعادتها خلال هذه الزيارة بفريق القيادة العليا بمستشفى حزم مبيريك العام وقدمت لهم الشكر والتقدير لجهودهم التي يبذلونها وجميع فرق العمل في تقديم الرعاية اللازمة للمرضى، كما التقت سعادتها بثلاثة من المرضى الذين تم شفاؤهم من فيروس كورونا /كوفيد-19/ عقب تلقيهم الرعاية الصحية اللازمة، حيث أعربوا عن مدى ارتياحهم لجودة الرعاية التي تلقوها، وعن شكرهم وتقديرهم لفرق المستشفى في هذا الخصوص.

من جانبه، أكد الدكتور عبدالله الأنصاري، رئيس الإدارة الطبية بمؤسسة حمد الطبية أن مستشفى حزم مبيريك العام شكل عنصرا مهما في تنفيذ استراتيجية التصدي لجائحة فيروس كورونا /كوفيد-19/، مضيفا أن الفرق الطبية عملت منذ شهر مارس من العام الماضي بجد والتزام رائعين، لتحويل هذا المستشفى العام إلى مرفق مخصص لرعاية مرضى فيروس كورونا /كوفيد-19/ وزيادة السعة بشكل كبير، حيث تمت زيادة السعة السريرية بالمستشفى من 102 سرير لرعاية الحالات الحادة إلى ما يصل لـ 557 سريرا، مع زيادة في سعة وحدة العناية المركزة من 16 إلى 230 سريرا.

وقال إن مستشفى حزم مبيريك العام قدم خدمات الرعاية الصحية للمرضى الذين يعانون من مضاعفات خطيرة وأكثر الحالات تعقيدا، فضلا عن توفير التخصصات الجراحية لمرضى فيروس كورونا /كوفيد-19/ ، كما تم تزويد المستشفى بالدعم من قبل الموظفين والموارد من كافة مرافق مؤسسة حمد الطبية على مدار الخمسة عشر شهرا الماضية في إطار منظومة عمل جماعية على مستوى النظام بأكمله.

وأشار إلى أنه تم إدخال ما يزيد عن 3,280 مريضا إلى وحدة العناية المركزة بالمستشفى منذ شهر مارس العام الماضي “وتأثر هؤلاء المرضى بالمضاعفات الشديدة للفيروس مما تطلب تقديم علاج منقذ للحياة لهم من قبل فرق وحدة العناية المركزة، وتم إدخال عدد أكبر من المرضى إلى وحدات العناية المركزة خلال الموجة الثانية مقارنة بالموجة الأولى من الفيروس، وذلك بسبب شدة أعراض السلالات الجديدة مما زاد الضغط على نظام الرعاية الصحية”.

وتابع في هذا السياق “فخور للغاية بكل من شارك في تحويل هذا المستشفى إلى مرفق مخصص لرعاية مرضى فيروس كورونا /كوفيد-19/ وتقديم رعاية عالية الجودة لآلاف المرضى طوال فترة هذا الوباء”.

من جهته، أوضح السيد حسين آل اسحاق، المدير التنفيذي لمستشفى حزم مبيريك العام أن المستشفى حقق زيادة قدرها ستة أضعاف في السعة السريرية من خلال إنشاء مستشفيات ميدانية.

وأضاف “لقد حددنا الحاجة إلى زيادة سعة المستشفى بشكل كبير منذ بداية الجائحة لتلبية الطلب المتزايد على الأسرة. وتطلب ذلك نهجا مبتكرا وسرعة في التخطيط وبناء عدة مستشفيات ميدانية، حيث لم تلعب هذه المستشفيات دورا أساسيا في استجابتنا للجائحة على مدار الخمسة عشر شهرا الماضية فحسب، ولكنها ستواصل أيضا تقديم خدماتها في حال مواجهة أي أزمة صحية مستقبلا”.

وقال إنه مع انتهاء دور المستشفى المتمثل في رعاية مرضى فيروس كورونا /كوفيد-19/ فقط، سيستأنف مستشفى حزم مبيريك العام تقديم خدماته الطبية العادية ذات الجودة العالية للأشخاص الذين يعيشون في المنطقة الصناعية والمناطق المحيطة بها.
