Qatar Petroleum Wins Two Offshore Exploration Blocks in Suriname

Doha: A consortium including Qatar Petroleum has been awarded two offshore blocks in Suriname, under Production Sharing Contracts as part of the recent Suriname offshore bid round.
The winning bids in the competitive round were announced by Surinames State Oil Company, Staatsolie. A consortium comprising of Qatar Petroleum (20%), TotalEnergies (Operator – 40%) and Staatsolie (40%) were awarded the right to explore shallow water blocks 6 and 8, which are immediately adjacent to the prolific Block 58 discoveries.
Commenting on this occasion, HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs, President and CEO of Qatar Petroleum Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, said, “We are pleased to be awarded exploration rights in blocks 6 and 8, and this represents Qatar Petroleums first entry into Suriname. This successful result also increases our presence in the Guyana-Suriname Basin and further strengthens Qatar Petroleums footprint in Latin America, marking yet another successful step towards realizing our international growth ambitions.”
HE Minister Al Kaabi added, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Surinamese authorities for a comprehensive and efficient tender process, as well as our strategic partner, TotalEnergies, for their excellent cooperation in achieving this result.”
Located in the southern part of offshore Suriname, close to the border with Guyana, the adjacent blocks 6 and 8 lie immediately south of block 58 in shallow waters, with depths ranging between 30 and 65 meters. The two blocks cover a combined area of approximately 2,750 square kilometers.

الدوحة: فاز تحالف يضم /قطر للبترول/ بحقوق الاستكشاف في منطقتين بحريتين في جمهورية سورينام بموجب عقود مشاركة في الإنتاج كجزء من جولة عطاءات سورينام البحرية التي عقدت مؤخراً.
وقد أعلنت شركة النفط الحكومية في سورينام “ستاتسولي” Staatsolie عن العطاءات الفائزة في الجولة التنافسية، حيث تم منح تحالف من شركات تابعة لقطر للبترول (بنسبة 20)، وشركة توتال للطاقة (المشغل بنسبة 40)، وستاتسولي (بنسبة 40) حقوق استكشاف المنطقتين الضحلتين 6 و8، والمتاخمتين مباشرة للمنطقة 58 التي تتمتع باكتشافات منتجة.
وصرّح سعادة المهندس سعد بن شريدة الكعبي، وزير الدولة لشؤون الطاقة، العضو المنتدب والرئيس التنفيذي لقطر للبترول، بهذه المناسبة، قائلاً: “يسعدنا الفوز بحقوق التنقيب في المنطقتين 6 و8 وهو ما يمثل أول دخول لقطر للبترول إلى سورينام. وسيعزز هذا النجاح من وجودنا في حوض غيانا سورينام، ومن حضور قطر للبترول في أمريكا اللاتينية، مما يمثل خطوة ناجحة أخرى نحو تحقيق طموحاتنا في النمو على الصعيد الدولي”.
وأضاف سعادته: “أود أن أغتنم هذه الفرصة لأقدم الشكر لسلطات سورينام على القيام بعملية مناقصة شاملة وفعّالة، ولشريكتنا الاستراتيجية، شركة توتال للطاقة، لتعاونها الكبير نحو تحقيق هذه النتيجة”.
وتقع المنطقتان البحريتان المتجاورتان 6 و8 مباشرة جنوب المنطقة 58 في المياه الضحلة قبالة شواطئ جنوب سورينام، بالقرب من الحدود مع غيانا، حيث تتراوح أعماق المياه فيها بين 30 و65 متراً. وتغطي المنطقتان مساحة إجمالية تبلغ حوالي 2,750 كيلومتراً مربعاً.
