Neglect behind cases of children drowning in swimming pools

Doha: A number of citizens called on the concerned authorities to oblige hotels, residential complexes, health clubs and tourist places that include swimming pools to provide lifeguards and put in place a number of guidelines to ensure the safety of visitors, especially children, stressing that there is a clear failure in this regard in light of the significant increase in the number of visitors that coincided with the implementation of the first phase of the plan to lift restrictions and summer season entering and annual leave.
They stressed in special statements to Al Raya the need for families to monitor their children while they are in swimming pools, with the need to have a parent with them and not to rely on maids to avoid drownings, especially in residential complexes and hotels as a result of neglect, stressing the need to oblige families to provide life jackets and safety means for their children during the practice of swimming hobby, pointing out that a large percentage of parents do not commit to keeping their children in swimming pools dedicated for children as they enter swimming pools for adults, which is what makes them vulnerable to drowning easily, considering that the safety of children is primarily the responsibility of the family, and then the management of the place that provide swimming pools to visitors.
They confirmed that some hotels and residential complexes assign the task of rescue and swimming pools control to security staff who have little experience in rescue and the modus operandi of first aid, and that some parents leave a group of children in the pools unattended.

الدوحة: دعا عددٌ من المواطنين الجهات المعنيّة إلى ضرورة إلزام الفنادق والمجمعات السكنيّة والنوادي الصحيّة والأماكن السياحيّة التي تضم مسابح بتوفير مُنقذين ووضع عدد من الإرشادات التي تضمن سلامة المُرتادين خاصة الأطفال، مُؤكدين أن هناك تقصيرًا واضحًا في هذا الشأن في ظل الارتفاع الكبير في عدد الزوّار الذي تزامن مع تطبيق المرحلة الأولى من خُطة رفع القيود ودخول موسم الصيف والإجازة السنويّة.
وشدّد هؤلاء في تصريحات خاصة لـ الراية على ضرورة قيام الأسر بمُراقبة أطفالهم أثناء تواجدهم في المسابح، مع ضرورة وجود أحد الوالدين معهم وعدم الاعتماد على الخادمات لتفادي وقوع حالات الغرق خاصة في المجمعات السكنية والفنادق نتيجة الإهمال، مُؤكدين ضرورة إلزام الأسر بتوفير سترات نجاة ووسائل سلامة لأطفالهم أثناء ممارسة هواية السباحة، لافتين إلى أن نسبة كبيرة من الأهالي لا يلتزمون بإبقاء أطفالهم في المسابح المُخصصة للصغار ويقومون بالدخول إلى المسابح المُخصصة للكبار، وهو ما يجعلهم عُرضة للغرق بسهولة، مُعتبرين أن سلامة الأطفال مسؤولية الأسرة بالدرجة الأولى، ثم إدارة الأماكن التي توفّر المسابح للزوّار.
وأكدوا أن بعض الفنادق والمُجمعات السكنيّة تسند مهمة الإنقاذ ومراقبة حمامات السباحة لموظفي الأمن ممن ليس لديهم أي خبرة تُذكر في الإنقاذ وطريقة عمل الإسعافات الأولية، كما أن بعض الأهالي يتركون مجموعة من الأطفال في المسابح دون مُراقبة.
