Google has hidden location settings and made it more difficult to find for Android systems so that people don’t turn them off.
The giant search engine’s new move aims to maintain data collection efforts that support the company’s advertising business, according to Arab Hardware, one of the largest technical communities in the Middle East.
The company made its decision after research revealed that a large proportion of users have disabled device settings, according to Sputnik.
The information is according to documents in the Arizona Attorney General’s Office’s lawsuit against the company last year.
According to documents provided by Google to the court, the search giant acknowledged that the shift by users left it with no other choice but to pressure Android phone makers to hide the settings.
The lawsuit accused the company of illegally collecting location data from smartphone users even after the subscription was cancelled.
The search engine giant continued to collect location data even when users turned off the different site sharing settings.
In 2018, the American Associated Press conducted an investigation that examined Google’s location data practices on Android phones, and concluded that Google still tracks people’s whereabouts even if they turn off a setting called location history.
Google generates the vast majority of its revenue through its huge advertising process, which is supported by the personal information it collects when people use its products.

واتخذت الشركة قرارها بعدما كشف بحث أجرته أن نسبة كبيرة من الأجهزة عطل مستخدميها الإعدادات، وفق موقع “سبوتنيك”.
وتأتي هذه المعلومات وفقًا للمستندات في الدعوى القضائية التي رفعها مكتب المدعي العام في ولاية أريزونا ضد الشركة في العام الماضي.
وبحسب المستندات التي قدمتها غوغل إلى المحكمة فإن عملاقة البحث، أقرت بأن هذا التحول من قبل المستخدمين، لم يترك لها خيار آخر سوى الضغط على صانعي هواتف أندرويد لـ إخفاء الإعدادات.
واتهمت الدعوى القضائية الشركة بجمع بيانات الموقع بشكل غير قانوني من مستخدمي الهواتف الذكية حتى بعد إلغاء الاشتراك.
واستمرت عملاقة البحث في جمع بيانات الموقع حتى عندما قام المستخدمون بإيقاف تشغيل إعدادات مشاركة الموقع المختلفة.
وفي عام 2018 أجرت وكالة “أسوشيتد برس” الأمريكية تحقيقا فحص ممارسات بيانات الموقع الخاصة بـ غوغل على الهواتف التي تعمل بنظام Android ، وخلص إلى أن جوجل لا تزال تتعقب أماكن وجود الأشخاص حتى إذا قاموا بإيقاف تشغيل إعداد يسمى سجل الموقع.
وتحقق غوغل الغالبية العظمى من إيراداتها من خلال عمليتها الإعلانية الضخمة، والتي تدعمها المعلومات الشخصية التي تجمعهاعندما يستخدم الأشخاص منتجاتها.
