Monthly Industrial Production Index Up By 1.4 percent in March

Doha: The Planning and Statistics Authority said today that the Industrial Production index (IPI), March 2021 amounted to 100.7 points, increased by 1.4 percent compared to the previous month (February 2021), and decreased by 0.1 percent, when compared to the corresponding month in 2020.

This index details the growth of various industrial sectors in economy such as “Mining”, “Manufacturing”, “Electricity production”, and “Water production and desalination”. It is a short-term quantitative index that measures the changes in the volume of productions of a selected basket of industrial products over a given period with respect to that in a chosen period called the base period.

The Industrial Production Index consists of three main components: “Mining” with a relative importance of 83.6 percent, “Manufacturing” with a relative importance of 15.2 percent, “Electricity” with a relative importance of 0.7 percent, and finally “Water” with a relative importance of 0.5 percent.

The analysis showed that the index of “Mining”: witnessed an increase by 0.5 percent compared to the previous month (February 2021), as a result of the increase in the quantities of “crude oil petroleum and natural gas” by 0.5 percent, while “Other mining and quarrying” showed an increase by 3.6 percent. When compared to the corresponding month of the previous year (March 2020), the IPI of Mining increased by 0.3%.

For “Manufacturing”: The index of this sector showed an increase by 4.5% compared to the previous month (February 2021), The groups showed an increase include: Printing and reproduction of recorded media by 23.8%, followed by “Manufacture of food products” by 13.4%, “Manufacture of beverages” by 10.9%, “Manufacture of Cement and other non-metallic mineral products” by 10.3%, “Manufacture of chemicals and chemical products” by 8.2%, “Manufacture of basic metals” by 2.4%, and “Manufacture of rubber and plastics products” by 0.7%. However, a decrease recorded in “Manufacture of refined petroleum products” by 11.6%.

On the other hand, in terms of annual change, comparing to March 2020, a decrease of 1.4% was recorded, affected by the following groups: Printing and reproduction of recorded media by 66.2%, followed by “Manufacture of refined petroleum products” by 23.9%, “Manufacture of beverages” by 11.9%, “Manufacture of food products” by 11.5%, and “Manufacture of chemicals and chemical products” by 0.9%. However, an increase recorded in “Manufacture of Cement & other non-metallic mineral products” by 28.1%, “Manufacture of basic metals” by 24.4%, and “Manufacture of rubber and plastics products” by 12.5%.

For electricity, an increase of 41.4% was noticed in the production of “Electricity” between March 2021 and the previous month (February 2021), while the annual increase when comparing with March 2020, was 9.1%.

As for “Water”, an increase of 9.9% was noticed in the production of ‘Water” between March 2021 and the previous month (February 2021). Comparing with corresponding month (March 2020), a decrease of 21.0% was recorded.

ويعكس هذا المؤشر الصادر عن جهاز التخطيط والإحصاء، تفاصيل نمو القطاعات الاقتصادية الصناعية المختلفة، مثل قطاع التعدين التي تبلغ أهميته النسبية 83.6 بالمئة، وكذلك الصناعات التحويلية، وإنتاج الكهرباء وإنتاج وتحلية الماء، بأهمية نسبية تبلغ، على التوالي، 15.2 بالمئة، و0.7 بالمئة، و0.5 بالمئة.

وتشير بيانات الجهاز إلى أن مؤشر قطاع التعدين سجل ارتفاعا شهريا / مقارنة مع شهر فبراير 2021/ بنسبة 0.5 بالمئة، نتيجة الزيادة في الكميات المنتجة في مجموعة النفط الخام والغاز الطبيعي بالنسبة ذاتها، كما ارتفع إنتاج مجموعة الأنشطة الأخرى للتعدين واستغلال المحاجر بنسبة 3.6 بالمئة، بينما سجل القطاع ارتفاعا سنويا /مقارنة مع مارس 2020/ بمقدار 0.3 بالمئة.

وحقق قطاع الصناعة التحويلية ارتفاعا في الإنتاج بنحو 4.5 بالمئة في مارس الماضي بالمقارنة مع الشهر السابق له /فبراير2021/، مدعوما بزيادة الإنتاج في سبع مجموعات، هي مجموعة الطباعة واستنساخ وسائط الأعلام المسجلة بنسبة 23.8 بالمئة، وصناعة المنتجات الغذائية بنسبة 13.4 بالمئة، وصناعة المشروبات بنسبة 10.9 بالمئة، وصناعة الإسمنت ومنتجات المعادن اللافلزية الأخرى بنسبة 10.3 بالمئة، وصناعة المواد الكيميائية والمنتجات الكيميائية بنسبة 8.2 بالمئة، وصناعة الفلزات القاعدية /المعادن الأساسية/ بنسبة 2.4 بالمئة، وصناعة منتجات المطاط واللدائن بنسبة 0.7 بالمئة، بينما انخفض إنتاج صناعة المنتجات النفطية المكررة بنسبة 11.6 بالمئة.

وعلى صعيد التغير السنوي في قطاع الصناعات التحويلية، فقد سجل القطاع تراجعا قدره 1.4 بالمئة عن /مارس 2020/، بسبب انخفاض الإنتاج في مجموعات الطباعة واستنساخ وسائط الأعلام المسجلة بنسبة 66.2 بالمئة، وصناعة المنتجات النفطية المكررة بنسبة 23.9 بالمئة، وصناعة المشروبات بنسبة 11.9 بالمئة، وصناعة المنتجات الغذائية بنسبة 11.5 بالمئة، وصناعة المواد الكيميائية والمنتجات الكيميائية بنسبة 0.9 بالمئة، بينما ارتفع إنتاج صناعة الإسمنت ومنتجات المعادن اللافلزية الأخرى بنسبة 28.1 بالمئة، وصناعة الفلزات القاعدية /المعادن الأساسية/ بنسبة 24.4 بالمئة، وصناعة منتجات المطاط واللدائن بنسبة 12.5 بالمئة.

وسجل قطاع الكهرباء ارتفاعا شهريا بين /مارس و فبراير2021 / بلغ 41.4 بالمئة، بينما كان الارتفاع السنوي بنسبة 9.1 بالمئة/بالمقارنة مع مارس 2020/ ، كما حقق قطاع الماء هو الآخر ارتفاعا شهريا بنسبة 9.9 بالمئة، لكنه سجل انخفاضا سنويا قدره 21 بالمئة.
