Sheikha Moza Participates in QF’s Classes Convocation Ceremony

Doha: HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, participated yesterday in the virtual convocation ceremony of the Classes of 2020 and 2021. Her Highness praised more than 1,600 graduates from universities at Education City for their achievements amid the “exceptional circumstances” of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The live, interactive event celebrated the graduates of the Classes of 2020 and 2021 from Qatar Foundations (QF) Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) and its international partner universities, as together with members of their families they gathered online to look back on their years within a unique educational environment, and to look ahead to the next stage of their journeys.

Speaking at Convocation held virtually to align with Qatars public health guidelines HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser said that the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of scientific and health achievements, whether in research, medicine or nursing, adding that it has stimulated the research sector to make further innovations and discoveries.

Her Highness also reviewed the contributions made by Qatar Foundation to deal with the pandemic. She said that Weill Cornell developed an in-house, accurate testing for COVID-19, and another sensitive test to detect antibodies through blood and urine sample, in addition to the efforts of its professors and students in studying and examining protective antibodies to be used against the virus. Her Highness added that Qatar Foundation researchers and students with molecular biology skills volunteered at Hamad Medical Corporation laboratories to provide technical assistance in analyzing COVID-19 samples.

Her Highness added that Qatar Biomedical Research Institute also developed a Serology Kit to detect COVID-19 antibodies in record time. While at Qatar Computing Research Institute, experts developed a contact tracing technology that tracks peoples movement based on cell phone data, and identifies the location of those who have tested positive for COVID-19, to help limit the spread of the virus in Qatar.

Her Highness added that at Sidra Medicine, a new COVID-19 rapid test was developed in 2020, maintaining 98 percent accuracy. This method will reduce the cost of testing by approximately 75 percent. While Qatar Genome Program participated in the COVID-19 Host Genetic Initiative, making it the only Arab participant in this global initiative. Despite all this rapid scientific progress today, there are still countless human genetic codes that remain a mystery waiting to be deciphered. Her Highness expressed her confidence that the current generation can play a part in deciphering these codes.

Her Highness expressed her pride at attending the graduation of a new batch of students from the universities at Education City, during these exceptional circumstances.

“I congratulate you on your success. It is through you that we can sustain the prosperity of the present and strengthen our future,” HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser said.

“We have spoken before about the direct and profound impact of both the health and education sectors on all other sectors. Indeed, this pandemic has proven the extent of this impact. As soon as the crisis affected the health sector, it swept through others, and drew attention to the necessity of doubling our emphasis on this sector,” Her Highness added.

Her Highness noted that as changes and shifts naturally occur in social trends, recent decades saw an overwhelming trend of people gravitating towards work in the business sector, while at the same time general interest towards work in the health sector decreased, resulting in shortage of healthcare workers, particularly in technical fields. Her Highness said that this issue will require new policies and budgets to improve and sustain the health sector.

Her Highness said that she anticipates a new and significant shift between young people towards the health sector, after the pandemic proved to everyone just how important the medical profession is, and the extent of its impact on all aspects of life, stressing that it is an importance that stems from healthcares centrality to everything around it.

Her Highness discussed how the world was suddenly paralyzed in the face of the pandemic, as the health sector struggled to contain this abrupt predicament. Her Highness said that every country, developed or otherwise, was equally reeling in the face of the pandemic and its repercussions, noting that the experience gave rise to new convictions both in an official capacity and among the public, that would restore the status of medicine and its vital role in protecting humanity.

“But we cannot thrive, and the world cannot prosper with one specialization without the others, and we cannot build a strong foundation without all your specializations together. While you may notice a focus on medicine, it does not indicate a preference for this field. It simply reflects what the coronavirus pandemic has brought about in terms of great changes in life, business, and health. And yet, the value of knowledge remains the same, whether in science, literature or art. No one field takes precedence over another in its importance, and the value it brings to our lives,” Her Highness said.

Her Highness concluded by saying “always remember, crises will ultimately fade away. But, you, with your knowledge and expertise, will forever remain.”

The virtual Convocation ceremony saw graduates who have excelled in fields ranging from medicine, engineering, computing, art and design, and communications to Islamic studies, international affairs, humanities and social sciences, and business share in a collective celebration of what they have learned and achieved within QFs ecosystem of education, within which they have been equipped to be leaders, innovators, and change-makers.

During the ceremony, Palestinian graduates of universities at QF spoke of their sorrow at the injustices being inflicted in the occupied territories, while urging people to speak out against the oppression Palestinians continue to face.

And in her keynote speech, writer, author, lecturer and Islamic studies specialist Yasmin Mogahed told the Classes of 2020 and 2021: “What you have accomplished is not a small feat you have pushed forward as the world locked down.

“There is something to be said for the resilience that can only be had through challenges. As the graduates of 2020 and 2021, you were positioned in a very unique place. And not only have you survived a pandemic, you have completed a degree in the midst of it. You have not only survived inside this global storm; you have thrived in it.

“These storms you have weathered over these last 15 months have not only strengthened you in resilience. They have also prepared you to become the very change we desperately need to see in the world today.”

الدوحة: شاركت صاحبة السمو الشيخة موزا بنت ناصر، رئيس مجلس إدارة مؤسسة قطر للتربية والعلوم وتنمية المجتمع، مساء الأمس في حفل تخريج دفعتي 2020 و2021 من طلاب مؤسسة قطر الذي أقيم عبر الإنترنت، حيث هنأت سموها أكثر من 1600 خريج من جامعات المدينة التعليمية على ما حققوه من إنجازات في ظل “الظروف الاستثنائية” التي فرضتها جائحة كورونا /كوفيد-19/ على العالم.

تضمن الحفل، الاحتفاء بخريجي الدفعتين معا من طلاب جامعة حمد بن خليفة، والجامعات الدولية الشريكة للمؤسسة، الذين استرجعوا محطات من رحلتهم الدراسية داخل بيئة مؤسسة قطر التعليمية، متطلعين للمضي قدما في المراحل التالية من مسيرتهم في الحياة وذلك في حدث تفاعلي مباشر عقد افتراضيا التزاما بالإجراءات الاحترازية الصحية المتعلقة بجائحة /كوفيد-19/.

وبهذه المناسبة، أكدت صاحبة السمو الشيخة موزا بنت ناصر، أن جائحة /كوفيد-19/، أبرزت أهمية الإنجازات العلمية الصحية، بحثا وطبا وتمريضا، وحفزت قطاع البحوث إلى مزيد من الابتكار والاكتشافات.

واستعرضت صاحبة السمو ،في كلمتها أمام الحفل، نماذج من إسهامات مؤسسة قطر، بجامعاتها وباحثيها وطلبتها، في التصدي للجائحة، موضحة أن كلية وايل كورنيل للطب طورت اختبارا دقيقا لمسحة /كوفيد – 19/ واختبارا آخر لرصد الأجسام المضادة عن طريق عينات الدم واليوريا، فضلا عن جهود الكلية، بأساتذتها وطلبتها، في دراسة وفحص الأجسام المضادة الواقية لاستخدامها ضد الفيروس. كما تطوع باحثو وطلبة مؤسسة قطر، المتخصصون في علم الأحياء الجزيئية للعمل في مختبرات مؤسسة حمد الطبية لتقديم المساعدة الفنية في تحليل عينات فيروس /كوفيد-19/.

وأضافت أن معهد قطر لبحوث الطب الحيوي طور مجموعة أمصال لاكتشاف الأجسام المضادة لـ/كوفيد-19/ وذلك في وقت قياسي. وفي معهد قطر لبحوث الحوسبة ابتكر الخبراء نظاما لتتبع حركة الأشخاص بناء على بيانات الهاتف المحمول وتحديد جهات الاتصال بين المصابين من أجل حصر المواقع التي ينتشر فيها الفيروس في قطر.

وأشارت صاحبة السمو الشيخة موزا بنت ناصر، رئيس مجلس إدارة مؤسسة قطر للتربية والعلوم وتنمية المجتمع إلى أنه كما تحصل التغيرات في التوجهات والميول الاجتماعية بشكل عام، شهدت العقود الأخيرة توجها وظيفيا طاغيا نحو قطاع الأعمال في وقت تراجع فيه الإقبال على العمل في القطاع الصحي وما أدى إليه من نقص في الكوادر الصحية، وتحديدا الوظائف التقنية والفنية، الأمر الذي يتطلب وضع السياسات والميزانيات الكفيلة بتطوير قطاع الصحة واستدامته.

واستشرفت صاحبة السمو توجها جديدا كبيرا بين الشباب نحو العمل في قطاع الصحة بعد أن أبانت ظرفية الجائحة للجميع أهمية المهن الطبية وحجم تأثيرها في مسارات الحياة جميعها، وهي أهمية تنبع من مركزية الصحة في علاقتها بكل ما سواها، مبينة كيف أصيب العالم بشلل مفاجئ في مواجهة الوباء بسبب عدم قدرة القطاعات الصحية على احتواء المفاجأة، وقد تساوت جميع البلدان في الترنح أمام تداعيات الجائحة. وحينها تولدت قناعات جديدة تعبر عن وعي جديد، رسمي وشعبي، يعيد للطب مكانته وريادته في حماية البشرية.

وتابعت “لكن الحياة لا تقوم والعالم لا يبنى باختصاص دون آخر، فلا يستقيم شيء بدون اختصاصاتكم كلها معا. وإذ تلاحظون تركيزا على الطب، لا يحيل حديثنا إلى أفضلية ما وليس سوى ما أملته علينا جائحة كورونا من تغيرات كبيرة على مختلف مستويات الحياة والأعمال والصحة. وما عدا ذلك، تبقى قيمة المعارف في الوجود نفسها، علما أو أدبا أو فنا، ولا أرجحية لمعرفة على أخرى في حسابات الأهمية والعطاء والتميز”.

واختتمت صاحبة السمو الشيخة موزا بنت ناصر كلمتها للخريجين قائلة ” تذكروا دائما أن الأزمات ترحل وأنتم الباقون بمعارفكم وخبراتكم”.

وقد جمع الحفل خريجين من جميع المجالات كالطب، والهندسة وعلوم الحاسوب، والفنون والتصميم، والاتصالات، والدراسات الإسلامية، والشؤون الدولية، والعلوم الإنسانية والحيوية، وقطاع الأعمال، حيث شاركوا معا في الاحتفاء بإنجازاتهم التي حققوها داخل المنظومة التعليمية الفريدة لمؤسسة قطر، والتي زودتهم بالمهارات اللازمة ليصبحوا قادة ومبتكرين وصناعا للتغيير الإيجابي.

وتحدث الخريجون خلال الحفل عن الخبرات التي اكتسبوها والأهداف التي رسموها لمستقبلهم. معبرين عن أملهم أن يكون لهم دور في إيصال أصوات المظلومين وإحداث التغيير من خلال ما تعلموه من تجربتهم في مؤسسة قطر، وأن يسهموا في النهوض ببلدانهم.

كذلك عبر أولياء أمور الخريجين عن سعادتهم وفخرهم بإنجازات أبنائهم وبناتهم، مشيرين إلى أن هذا التخرج ليس إلا بداية الطريق، وأنهم سيواصلون تقديم الدعم لهم في التصدي للتحديات التي قد تواجههم.

وخلال الحفل، عبر خريجو مؤسسة قطر الفلسطينيون، عن مشاعرهم إزاء أوجه الظلم في الأراضي الفلسطينية المحتلة، وحثوا الناس على إطلاق العنان لأصواتهم والحديث عن الاضطهاد الذي مازال يواجه الشعب الفلسطيني.

وفي الكلمة الرئيسية، أكدت السيدة ياسمين مجاهد، الكاتبة العالمية والمحاضرة، واختصاصية الدراسات الإسلامية أن ما حققه الخريجون ليس إنجازا صغيرا. فقد دفعوا أنفسهم إلى الأمام في حين كان العالم بأسره يواجه الإغلاق، مضيفة بالقول “وأنتم كخريجي دفعتي عام 2020 و2021، فإن لديكم مكانة فريدة جدا، فأنتم لم تتمكنوا من التغلب على جائحة عالمية فحسب، بل أكملتم دراستكم وحصلتم على درجة علمية في خضم الوباء. لقد نجوتم من هذا الحدث الذي عصف بالعالم بأسره، بل وأحرزتم النجاح والازدهار.. إن ما مررتم به على مدار 15 شهرا، عزز قوتكم وصلابتكم، وأعدكم كذلك لتجسدوا التغيير الذي نتطلع إلى رؤيته في العالم”.
