WhatsApp reveals how to punish those who refuse to update the app

Facebook-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp has unveiled a gradual app functions restriction, including messages and calls, for those who did not accept new app updates scheduled for Saturday(May 15th).

WhatsApp has announced that users will not be deprived of all features of the app and their accounts will not be deleted on Saturday if they didn’t accept this update but users have to respond to WhatsApp messages “to accept or reject the new privacy policy” which the app appears to intensify sending to push as many users to accept the policy that has sparked widespread controversy around the world since it was first announced earlier this year.

The app added that in a few weeks the update reminder will be final, and the functionality of the application will be limited, until the update is accepted, and the timing will vary from user to user, according to the application site.

Users will not be able to access the chat list but will still be able to answer calls, and if notifications are turned on, messages will be sent.

However, after a few weeks of limited functionality, users will not be able to receive incoming calls and notifications, and the app will stop sending messages and calls.

In January, the company postponed the implementation of the new agreement from February 8 to May 15, so that users during this period can read and accept updates, following a backlash from WhatsApp users, when the company first tried to update the terms of service.

Millions of users also downloaded alternative apps such as Signal and Telegram after WhatsApp announced that the new terms would come into effect on February 8th.

Messages have spread frequently on the chat app itself, with some wrongly claiming that the new update would give WhatsApp the right to read user messages and deliver information to Facebook.

واتساب أعلن أنه لن يحرم مستخدميه من كل ميزات التطبيق وخصائصه ولن يحذف حساباتهم السبت إذا لم يقبلوا هذا التحديث ولكن على المستخدمين التجاوب مع رسائل الواتساب “لقبول أو رفض سياسة الخصوصية الجديدة” التي يبدو أن التطبيق سيكثف من إرسالها لتدفع أكبر عدد من المستخدمين لقبول السياسة التي أثارت جدلا واسعا حول العالم منذ أن جرى الإعلان عنها لأول مرة بداية العام الحالي.

وأضاف التطبيق أنه في غضون أسابيع قليلة سيصبح التذكير بالتحديث نهائيا، وستكون وظائف التطبيق محدودة، حتى قبول التحديث، كما وسيختلف التوقيت من مستخدم لآخر، بحسب ما نقل موقع التطبيق.

ولن يتمكن المستخدمون من الوصول إلى قائمة الدردشة لكنهم سيظلون قادرين على الرد على المكالمات، وفي حال تشغيل الإشعارات فسيتم إرسال الرسائل.

إلا أنه وبعد بضعة أسابيع من محدودية الوظائف، لن يتمكن المستخدمون من تلقي المكالمات والإشعارات الواردة، وسيتوقف التطبيق عن إرسال الرسائل والمكالمات.

وفي يناير الماضي، أعلنت الشركة عن تأجيل تنفيذ الاتفاقية الجديدة من 8 فبراير إلى 15 مايو، حتى يتمكن المستخدمون خلال هذه الفترة من قراءة التحديثات وقبولها، بعد رد فعل عنيف من مستخدمي واتساب، عندما حاولت الشركة لأول مرة تحديث شروط الخدمة.

كما قام ملايين المستخدمين بتنزيل تطبيقات بديلة مثل “سيغنال” و”تيليغرام” بعد إعلان واتساب أن الشروط الجديدة ستدخل حيز التنفيذ في 8 فبراير.

وانتشرت رسائل بكثرة على تطبيق الدردشة نفسه، حيث ادعى البعض خطأ أن الاتفاقية الجديدة ستمنح واتساب الحق في قراءة رسائل المستخدمين وتسليم المعلومات إلى فيسبوك.
